Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 2 Sabin Stakes comes our way from Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida this Sunday, February 16. A purse of $100,000 will be on the line for fillies and mares four years old and upward willing to go 1 1/16 miles on Gulfstream's dirt track.
The Sabin Stakes has attracted a field of eight older females to go in race 10 on Gulfstream's Sunday card. Post time is 5:03 PM. Here is a look into the past performances of all eight entries for this Grade 2 stakes.
Sweet N Discreet - Todd Pletcher entry (Pletcher has won this race 10 straight years) has looked very good as of late - three wins and two seconds in her last five starts. Last time out was a nice win in her first ever starts around two turns ahead of Devil's Cave in the competitive listed Florida Sunshine Millions Distaff here January 18 after a second to Devil's Cave in the Ocala Stakes on this track December 29 and two Allowance Optional Claiming scores here earlier this winter. She has four wins, three seconds and two third place finishes in her 11 career starts and is an interesting ahead of her graded stakes debut. Joe Bravo gets the mount Sunday in Sweet N Discreet's latest challenge against...
Devil's Cave - has hit the board in seven of nine starts - three wins and four seconds for trainer Martin Wolfson and has placed in all four races since switching from turf to dirt. She is coming off a second behind Sweet N Discreet in the Florida Sunshine Millions Distaff after a terrific win in the minor Ocala Stakes also on this track December 29. She makes her graded stakes debut Sunday but has certainly been trending upward as of late.
Private Ensign - Todd Pletcher trained filly snapped an ugly streak with an Allowance Optional Claiming score last time out here January 15 after eight months away from the track. Before the layoff was a ninth in the minor Edgewood Stakes at Churchill Downs in May, an eleventh in the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes in April and an OK third in the Grade 2 Davona Dale Stakes on this track in February last year. Private Ensign has seven career starts with three wins, a second and a third place finish.
Gamay Noir - will race in graded stakes company for the first time for trainer Martin Wolfson. She has three wins and four third place finishes - one of those thirds coming last time out behind Triple Arch in an Allowance on this track January 29. She has two minor stakes starts in her career thus far - an eleventh December 15 in the South Beach Stakes and a fourth in October in the TaWee Stakes at Indiana Downs.

Kipling's Joy - Martin Wolfson pupil steps up into graded stakes company for the first time but is coming off an Allowance Optional Claiming score on this track January 25 after a pair of fourths in Allowance races to end her 2013 campaign. She has three wins, a second and three third place finishes in 14 career starts and figures to have a tough time in her first foray against stakes competitors.
Rose to Gold - won three of four graded stakes starts between November 2012 and April 2013 including the Grade 3 Fantasy Stakes April 10, the Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes March 9 and the Grade 3 Delta Downs Princess Stakes in November 2011 but she hasn't been the same since. Rose to Gold is coming off a terrific win however - in the Houston Ladies Classic at Sam Houston January 25 after a disappointing ninth in the Grade 3 Marshua's River Stakes at Gulfstream January 4, a fifth in the Grade 3 My Charmer Handicap December 7 and seven months away. Before being sidelined Rose to Gold was eighth in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks in May. She hadn't been great but last time out has created a little optimism that Rose to Gold has regained her early 2013 form.
Angelica Zapata - most recently finished a good third in the Grade 3 Marshua's River Stakes January 4 after a second in the Grade 3 My Charmer Handicap at Calder December 7 and three straight minor stakes scores - the Capano Handicap November 2, the Wasted Tears Stakes on this track in August and the Nancy's Glitter Handicap in July at Calder. She has 26 career starts with nine wins, five seconds and four third place finishes and enters in the best form of her career.
Triple Arch - is one of many in the Sabin that will race in graded stakes company for the first time Sunday. She is coming off a second ahead of Gamay Noir in an Allowance on this track January 29 after a fourth in the minor Voodoo Dancer Stakes on this track January 1 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score here December 8. She did have a career best December 12 at Calder - a second in the minor Frances A. Genter Stakes and has been OK since. She takes a giant leap up in competition Sunday.
