Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 3 British Columbia Premier's Handicap will be contested at Hastings Racecourse in Vancouver, British Columbia on Monday, October 13. Horses three years old and upward will be featured in this 1 3/8 mile test as the contenders chase the winner's share of the $100,000 purse.
A field of nine will take to the track in the BC Premier's Handicap - race 7 on Hastings Sunday card. Post time is 4:50 PM. Here is a brief glimpse into the past performances of all nine combatants for this Grade 3 stakes.
Alert Bay - Anita Bolton trained gelding has 10 career starts - four wins, four seconds and a third place finish and has four wins, a second and a third place finish in seven starts this year - the best result being a win last time out against older horses in the Grade 3 British Columbia Derby by two lengths as 3-2 favorite on this track September 14. Before that was a career worst performance - a fifth in the minor Real Good Deal Stakes at Del Mar August 1 after a second in the minor Silky Sullivan Stakes in June, a third in the minor Snow Chief Stakes in April and a three race win streak - including the minor Echo Eddie Stakes at Santa Anita in April. Alert Bay looks like the one to beat with Rico Walcott guiding him from post 7.
Mr. Bowling - is coming off a nice win in the minor S.W. Randall Plate Handicap on this track September 14 after consecutive sixths - the Grade 3 Longacres Mile August 24 and the minor Mt. Rainier Handicap here July 20. Those poor results followed another good win in the minor Lieutenant Governor's Handicap at here July 1 and a second in the Budweiser Handicap June 15. He had some graded stakes experience back east in 2011-2012 with a win in the Grade 3 Lecomte Stakes at Fair Grounds in January, 2012 being the highlight. He has placed in three of his last five starts overall with some ugly results sandwiched in there but off a win should be in the mix Monday. Koffee Grinder - has eight career starts with four wins, two seconds and a third place finish - four wins and two seconds in six starts this year. Last time out was a second in the Grade 3 British Columbia Derby here September 14 which followed another second in the minor Richmond Derby Trial Handicap August 22. Before that was a three race win streak - all minor stakes races on this track. Koffee Grinder has been sensational the last nine months and will look to bounce back into the win column Monday. Prohibition - New York based entry has won three of seven starts this year and has six wins, two seconds and a third place finish in 18 career starts. Last time out was a distant seventh in the Grade 3 Longacres Mile after a fourth behind the impressive Zivo in the minor Commentator Handicap at Hastings Racecourse May 31, an Allowance score at Parx May 2 and an Allowance score at Aqueduct in March. He looks to bounce back from two substandard results when he leaves from gate 6 with Alex Bisono aboard.
Deadly Truth - won the minor Speed to Spare Stakes at this distance September 1 at Northlands Park and followed that with a third in an Allowance on that same track September 19, a fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming August 2 and a sixth in the minor Wheat City Stakes in July. He has one graded stakes start to his credit - a fifth in the Grade 3 Canadian Derby in August, 2013 and has been somewhat inconsistent since. Scott Williams will be in the saddle in Deadly Truth's Hastings debut from post 2 Monday.

Mysterious Soul - alternated wins and second place finishes in his first four starts this year including a second in the minor Turf Paradise Handicap in February, an Allowance score at Turf Paradise in January and a second in the minor Hank Mills Sr. Handicap on that same track. He had an ugly result two back - an eleventh in the Grade 3 Longacres Mile but bounced back with an OK second behind Mr. Bowling in the minor S.W. Randall Plate Handicap here September 14. Keishan Balgobin will ride from gate 8.
Wilo Kat - finished third in this race last year and has placed in five of six starts since - three third place finishes over that span including the minor S.W Randall Plate Handicap on this track September 14. He is always competitive placing in 12 of his last 13 starts and should be again Monday. Amadeo Perez has the call from the outside post.
Shooting Jacket - has two wins and five third place finishes in 17 career starts - two third place finishes in four starts this year. He has failed to place in his last three starts however - a fifth in the S.W. Randall Plate Handicap and the Grade 3 Longacres Mile August 24 and a fourth in the minor Mt. Rainier Handicap in May. His career highlight came over a year ago when he finished third in the Grade 3 Canadian Derby at Northlands Park - but he hasn't been great since. Frank Fuentes has the mount from post 4.
Remembertobreathe - has 10 career starts with two wins, two seconds and a third place finish. He won two straight Allowance races in June and had a second in an Allowance August 3 and another good second August 16 in the Grade 3 Canadian Derby at Northlands Park- his graded stakes debut. Last time out was a disappointing fifth in the Grade 3 British Columbia Derby here September 14. Remembertobreathe will Howard Newell in the irons from post 5.
