Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 2 Super Derby comes our way this Saturday, September 6 from none other than Louisiana Downs. A group of three year olds will be featured as they chase down the winner's share of the $400,000 purse for 1 1/8 miles around Louisiana Downs's main track.

Vicar's in Trouble - Michael Maker trainee was last seen running an OK third behind Tapiture and Candy Boy in the Grade 2 West Virginia Derby August 2 which followed another third as favorite in the Grade 3 Iowa Derby June 28 and a disappointing nineteenth in the Kentucky Derby. Before that he had three wins and two third place finishes in five career starts including two graded stakes wins by a combined 10 1/4 lengths. He won the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby March 29 after a third in the Risen Star and another win in the Grade 3 Lecomte back in January. Except for one bad outing four months ago Vicar's in Trouble has been very good against some top fields, placing in seven of eight starts. Rosie Napravnik has the mount from gate 4 in his return home to Louisiana.
Jessica's Star - Michael Stidham trained gelding is coming off a good second in the listed Ohio Derby at Thistletown July 19 which followed a nice three race win streak - the Grade 3 Iowa Derby over Vicar's in Trouble June 28, the minor Prairie Mile Stakes May 31 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score to go along with a second in an Allowance in April. He has never finished worse than second in seven career starts (four wins and three seconds) and will line up from the rail with James Graham aboard.

The wins include the minor Pelican Stakes at Delta Downs in March, the minor LA Bred Premier Night Prince Stakes on that same track in February and the minor Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile Stakes in December. Ide Be Cool steps into graded stakes company for the first time Saturday with Chris Rosier guiding him from post 3.
East Hall - had little success in graded stakes action at the beginning of the year - a fourth in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth, an eighth in the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby and a fifth in the Grade 1 Florida Derby but he has placed in all three starts since. Last time out was a nice win over Jessica's Star at 9-1 odds in the minor Ohio Derby at Thistletown July 19 after consecutive seconds in minor stakes action - the Quality Road Stakes in June and the Sir Bear Stakes in May - both at Gulfstream. He has an incredible 16 career starts already with three wins, three seconds and four third place finishes and looks to be in career best form ahead of this weekend.
