2014 Buena Vista Stakes Race Favorite Entries

Egg Drop - has 12 career starts with six wins, two seconds and two third place finishes and enters this weekend on a terrific three race win streak - last time out over Discreet Marq in the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes at Hollywood Park December 1, in the Grade 2 Goldikova Stakes at Santa Anita November 3 and in the Grade 2 Yellow Ribbon Handicap at Del Mar in September. She had nine starts in 2013 with five wins and a very nice second behind Schiaparelli in the Grade 2 Royal Heroine here July 6. Egg Drop will carry the top weight Monday; she has been sensational and looks like the one to beat. Regular jockey Martin Garcia has the return call from gate 2.

Customer Base - finished 2012 with a nice second in the Grade 3 Autumn Miss Stakes at Santa Anita in October for trainer Tom Proctor and placed in six of eight starts in 2013 including a terrific win last time out in the Grade 3 Robert J. Frankel on this track December 29. She had a fifth in the Grade 2 Yellow Ribbon September 2 after a fourth in the Grade 2 John C. Mabee Stakes August 11, a win in the minor Lucie Manet Stakes July 5, a second in the Redondo Beach Stakes June 9 and a third in the Great Lady M. Stakes in May. She also finished a good third behind Egg Drop in the Grade 2 Goldikova Stakes at Santa Anita November 3 after a second in the minor Swingtime Stakes October 5 also on that track. Customer Base has looked good lately and her win last time out served notice that she is one to contend with. Mike Smith will be aboard from the far outside post.

Buena Vista Stakes 2014 | Remaining Contenders

Pontchatrain - Thomas Proctor trained filly has been terrific in her seven career starts - five wins and a third place finish. Last time out was a terrific win in the Grade 2 Monrovia Stakes here January 5 after a win in her graded stakes debut - with a career best 92 Beyer Speed Figure in the Senator Ken Maddy Stakes on this track November 2. She also had a win in the minor Unzip Me Stakes in September - all of those wins coming on Santa Anita's hillside track at 6 1/2 furlongs. Pontchatrain looks for her fourth straight win and her third straight graded stakes score Monday and should be right in the mix if present form has anything to do with it. Gary Stevens will be in the saddle Monday as Pontchatrain stretches out to one mile.

Stormy Lucy - had an ugly eleventh in the 2012 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf and was forced into a seven month layoff. She returned to action June 9 to a fourth in the minor Redondo Beach Stakes here and followed that with a fifth in the Grade 2 Royal Heroine also in July. Stormy Lucy had a win by four lengths in the minor Miss America Stakes October 19 at Golden Gate but followed that with an eighth in the Grade 1 Matriarch at Hollywood Park December 1. Last time out was a very good second behind Customer Base in the Grade 3 Robert J. Frankel here December 29. She appears to be trending in the right direction with a win and a second in her last three starts and will be looking for her first graded stakes score Monday. Isaias Enriquez will be aboard from post 9.

Tapicat - legendary Bill Mott sends out Tapicat who has four wins, a second and two third place finishes in nine career starts. Tapicat won three in a row at this time last year including the Grade 3 Florida Oaks at Tampa Bay Downs way back on February 2, a one mile Allowance Optional Claiming score by 5 1/4 January 9 at Gulfstream and a MSW score before that. Last time out was yet another win - the minor Voodoo Dancer Stakes at Gulfstream January 1 after a disappointing fifth in the Grade 2 Mrs. Revere Stakes in November, a second in the listed Pebbles Stakes in October and another fifth in the Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes in August. She has placed in just two of her last four starts overall and has failed to hit the board in her last two graded stakes starts but a win last time out is reason for a little optimism. John Velazquez will be in the reins.

Miss Serendipity - will make just her second North American start for trainer Ronald McAnally after 19 starts in Argentina yielded five wins, five seconds and two third place finishes. Her debut here was a troubled fourth as favorite in the minor Paseana Stakes here January 12 after a win in the Grade 1 Estrellas Distaff at home in June, a second in the Grade 3 Circulo de Propietarios de Caballerizas in May and a fourth in the Grade 2 Paseana in April. Hopes are that her impressive run at home will translate to the States in her second start on American soil.

Appealing - Irish bred Patrick Gallagher trained filly had a fourth in the minor Osunitas Stakes July 20 after a ninth in the Redondo Beach Stakes and a nice win in a pair of Allowance Optional Claiming scores in April and in May. Last time out was an ugly eighth in the Grade 3 Robert J. Frankel here December 29 to follow a fifth in the Grade 2 Goldikova Stakes November 2 and her best performance in quite some time - a second behind Egg Drop in the Grade 2 Yellow Ribbon at Del Mar September 2. Appealing has four wins, two seconds and two third place finishes in 16 career starts but has yet to record a graded stakes win.

Dancingtothestars - Doug O'Neill pupil had two Allowance wins at the end of 2012 and went on to place in five straight minor stakes races in 2013 including a third in the Irish O'Brien Stakes and a pair of seconds - in the Wishing Well Stakes February 10 and the Valentine Dancer Stakes January 26. She stumbled a bit after that but has looked very good in her last two starts - a win last time out in the listed Megahertz Stakes here January 18 followed a second in an Allowance at Hollywood Park December 5. Dancingtothestars has six wins, four seconds and four third place finishes in 20 career starts and will be looking to build on her last two starts as she races in graded stakes company for the first time.

Moone's My Name - John Sadler trained British bred mare had six wins, three seconds and three third place finishes in 17 career starts at home before debuting in North America and finishing second by a neck in the minor American Beauty Stakes on this track April 7. Her first graded stakes action came April 28 - a decent third in the Grade 3 Wilshire at Hollywood Park April 28. After7 1/2 months off she returned December 5 to a gate-to-wire Allowance score at Hollywood Park and followed that with a somewhat disappointing fifth in the Grade 3 Robert J. Frankel last time out on this track December 29. A win, a second and a third place finish in four starts on North American soil has her on the radar for this weekend although her fifth last time out is a tad concerning.

Unusual Hottie - Jeff Mullins trained mare has 18 career starts with seven wins, four seconds and three third place finishes but hasn't looked all that great lately. Last time out was a fourth in the Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf Sprint after a distant tenth in the Grade 3 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes on this track November 2. She did place in five straight races earlier in 2013 including three straight wins - an Allowance Optional Claiming in April, the Fran's Valentine Stakes in May and the Redondo Beach Stakes at Hollywood Park in June. Unusual Hottie will be looking to regain her summer form Monday.
