Las Vegas, NV - Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California will play host to the Grade 2 Palos Verdes Stakes on Sunday, February 2. The race will feature horses four years old and upward as they dash six furlongs in search of the winner's share of the $200,000 purse.
A small field of five will line up in the Palos Verdes - race 4 on Santa Anita's Sunday card. Post time is 12:30 PM. Here is a look into the past performances of all five combatants for this Grade 2 stakes - two of which were Eclipse Award finalists in the Sprint category.
Street Circle - Bob Baffert trained colt won five of seven starts in 2012 with two seconds to go along with it - the highlights being wins in the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes in February of 2012 and in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes in March 2012. He has just two starts in 2013 - a terrific win in the Breeders' Cup Sprint on this track and an Allowance Optional Claiming score here October 14 after 14 months away. He has placed in all nine career starts with seven wins and is coming off by far his biggest score. Despite being lightly raced the last couple of years, it is hard to discount Street Circle in the Palos Verdes. He has posted three bullet workouts here in the lead-up to the Palos Verdes and will be handled by Martin Garcia from post 4 as the 123 pound highweight.
Sahara Sky - Jerry Hollendorfer trained Sahara Sky raced in graded stakes company for the first time last January having won twice, finished second twice and recorded a third place finish in five Allowance races in 2012. He recorded an impressive win in that race - the 2012 edition of the Palos Verdes by one length January 19 at 21-1 odds and followed that with another terrific win in the Grade 2 San Carlos at Santa Anita February 23. Last time out was yet another win - this time the Grade 1 Met Handicap with a 110 Beyer Speed Figure at Belmont Park way back in May after he finished a very respectable second in the Grade 1 Carter Handicap behind Swagger Jack. He has won four of his last six starts and hasn't been worse than third in nine starts dating back to January 2012. Sahara Sky has been out of action for over six months but is still a threat each and every time he steps onto the track. Corey Nakatani will be aboard from gate 2 Sunday.
Majestic Stride - Jeff Bonde trained gelding has seven career starts with four wins and a second place finish and enters off a terrific 2 1/2 length score as favorite in the Grade 3 Vernon O. Underwood Stakes at Hollywood Park November 28 after an OK fourth in the Breeders' Cup Sprint and a two race win streak - both Allowance races with the last coming October 6. His only other graded stakes start resulted in a fifth January 20, 2012 in the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes. Majestic Stride has won three of his last four races and four of six heading into this weekend and is another name to watch.

Wild Dude - Jerry Hollendorfer trained colt will race in stakes company for the first time Sunday riding a two race win streak - both Allowance races with the last coming on this track January 3. He has seven career starts with three wins, two seconds and a third place finish but Sunday marks a huge step up in competition.
Moonshine Bay - has 36 career starts for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer but Sunday marks his graded stakes debut. He enters having placed in his last six starts overall - a second in the minor Midnight Lute Stakes last time out here January 4 followed an Allowance score at Golden Gate and a third in the minor Oakland Stakes also at Golden Gate November 16. He has 15 wins, nine seconds and six third place finishes in his 36 career starts but there is no doubt he has entered some deep water in the Palos Verdes.
