Las Vegas, NV - Woodbine in Toronto, Ontario will play host to the Grade 2 Dance Smartly Stakes on Queen's Plate Sunday, July 6. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will be featured as they go 1 1/8 miles on Woodbine Racetrack's turf track for a purse of $200,000.
A field of eight older females will line up in the Dance Smartly - race 7 on Woodbine's stacked Sunday schedule. Post time is 3:02 PM. Here is a brief look into the past performances of all eight entries for this Grade 2 stakes.
Deceptive Vision 2-1 - Malcolm Pierce trained filly raced in stakes company for the first time May 25 and finished a decent third behind Solid Appeal in the Grade 2 Nassau Stakes on this track. Before that she won three of four career starts - finishing second in the other. She had two straight Allowance Optional Claiming scores in February - the last coming at Fair Grounds February 22. She is lightly raced but successful when on the track. Patrick Husbands has the mount on the morning line favorite from post 5.
Overheard 5-2 - has never been worse than third in 11 career starts with four wins including the minor Alywow Stakes at Woodbine June 9 and the Grade 3 Pin Oak Valley View Stakes in October. She was a good second behind Unbelievable Dream April 18, 2013 in the Grade 3 Appalachian Stakes at Keeneland and followed that with an OK third in the Grade 3 Selene Stakes behind Coffee Clique in May. She has runner-up finishes in three of her last four starts - in the minor La Lonrgnette Stakes September 21, in the Grade 3 Ontario Colleen Stakes August 17 and last time out to Tannery in the minor Miss Liberty Stakes at Monmouth Park May 26 - with the Pin Oak score sandwiched in there. Overheard has been in absolutely every race she enters and is expected to be competitive again Sunday. Eurico Rosa Da Silva rides the morning line second choice from gate 2.
Theatre Star 3-1 - will race for the eighth time in her career and has looked good thus far for trainer Tom Proctor - four straight wins before a fourth in her graded stakes debut - the Grade 2 Wilshire at Santa Anita. The wins include an Allowance Optional Claiming score April 4 after another Allowance Optional Claiming win at Gulfstream February 27 and a Starter Allowance score January 31. Last time out was a second as 6-5 favorite in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Santa Anita June 5. She hopes to take the next step in graded company and will have Luis Contreras aboard from post 7.
Industrial Policy 6-1 - Mark Casse trained filly makes her graded stakes debut Sunday off a fourth in her stakes debut - the minor Miss Liberty Stakes at Monmouth Park May 26. Before that she won a pair of Allowance races (one over Riposte) with another fourth sandwiched in there. Industrial Policy has been in the money in 10 of 14 career starts but has not shown up against top competition just yet. Javier Castellano gets the call from gate 3 as the fourth choice on the morning line.

English Class 8-1 - has 16 career starts for trainer Brian Lynch with three wins, two seconds and six third place finishes. Last time out was a fifth in the Grade 3 Beaugay Stakes at Belmont Park after an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Gulfstream March 22 and a pair of thirds in similar races before that. She did finish second in the 2012 Grade 3 Pin Oak Valley View Stakes but has failed to place in three graded stakes starts since. English Class line up in post 6 with John Velazquez in the saddle.
Surtsey 15-1 - made her 2014 and graded stakes debut May 25 and finished fifth in the Grade 2 Nassau Stakes here for trainer Kevin Attard. Before that was a third in the minor Wonder Where Stakes way back in August after a win at 41-1 odds in the minor Ontario Damsel Stakes, a sixth in an Allowance Optional Claiming and a win in the Fanfreluche Stakes in October, 2012. She has only five starts the last 20 months with two wins and a third over that span. Emma Jayne Wilson rides Surtsey from the rail.
Savvy Hester 20-1 - Ricky Griffith trained filly has just three wins, seven seconds and three third place finishes in 19 career starts - just two previous graded stakes starts resulted in a sixth in the Grade 3 Ontario Colleen Stakes here back in August, 2013 and a fourth in the Grade 2 Nassau on this track in May of this year. She has five starts in 2014 - a fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming May 9 followed a second in the minor Powder Break Stakes at Gulfstream April 5 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Gulfstream in March. Last time out was a third in the minor Trillium Stakes here June 14 after the fourth in the Nassau. She has placed in seven of her last nine starts overall and looks close to a break through. Savvy Hester starts from gate 5 with Justin Stein aboard.
Precarious 20-1 - James Bond trained filly finished sixth in the Grade 1 Garden City Stakes in September, 2013 and then was forced to the sideline for nearly nine months. She has since returned to a fourth in an Allowance last time out May 25 and a second in a similar race May 7 - both results at Belmont Park. She has eight career starts with just one win and two seconds and will have Chantal Sutherland Kruse in the saddle from the outside post as the longest shot in the field.
