Las Vegas, NV - Del Mar will play host to the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes on Sunday, November 29. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will take to Del Mar's turf track and race one mile for the winner's share of the $300,000 purse.
A full field of 15 plus one Alternate Entry will give it a go in the Matriarch Stakes - race 8 on Del Mar's Sunday schedule. Post time is 4:00 PM. Let's take a peek into the past performances of all 15 possible entries for this Grade 1 stakes.
Hard Not to Like - Christophe Clement trained mare has eight wins, three seconds and two third place finishes in 21 career starts and enters off a very disappointing eighth in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes September 26. Before that were consecutive impressive wins - the Grade 1 Diana Stakes in July and the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes in May. She also had a win in the Grade 3 Marshua's River Stakes in January, 2013 and the Grade 1 Henny Wiley Stakes in April, 2014. Hard Not to Like had placed in six straight races (four wins) before last time out and will be out to avenge that uncharacteristic effort from the rail Sunday. John Velazquez rides the only Grade 1 winner in the field.
She's Not Here - Victoria Oliver trained filly has five wins, a second and three third place finishes in 17 career starts and enters having won two of her last three starts. Last time out was a disappointing seventh in the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes at Keeneland October 3 and consecutive wins - the Grade 2 Yellow Ribbon Handicap here September 6 and an Allowance Optional Claiming in August. She has looked great at times this year but will be in search of a strong bounce back from the outside post 14 with Mike Smith guiding her.
Prize Exhibit - British bred James Cassidy trained filly finished fourth in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies and has been good since. She posted two nice wins early in the summer - the Grade 3 Senorita Stakes in June and the Grade 2 San Clemente Stakes on this track in July. She went on to a respectable third in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks in August and a second in the Grade 2 Yellow Ribbon Stakes in September. Last time out was a bit of a hiccup - a seventh in the Grade 1 QE II Challenge Cup at Keeneland October 10. Prize Exhibit had looked very good before last time out and hopes to get back to her early summer form from gate 4 with Santiago Gonzalez in the irons.
Chati's On Top - has placed in 12 of 16 career starts for trainer Mike Puype - four wins, six seconds and two third place finish. Last time out was a fifth in her graded stakes debut - the Grade 3 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes at Santa Anita October 25 after a win in the minor Solana Beach Stakes on this track in August and a second in the minor Fran's Valentine Stakes in May. She has been worse than second just once the last seven starts - that being last time out and will be out for her first graded stakes score from gate 2 with Corey Nakatani guiding her.
Curlin's Fox - Carla Gaines trained filly has three wins, a second and as third place finish in seven career starts. She enters off an OK third in the minor Unzip Me Stakes at Santa Anita September 26, a win in the minor Sandy Blue Handicap here in August, a ninth in the Grade 3 Senorita Stakes in June and an Allowance Optional Claiming score in May. Curlin's Fox will be after her first graded stakes score from post 5 Sunday with Victor Espinoza in the reins.

Recepta - has five wins and two third place finishes in 12 career starts for trainer JJ Toner. She enters off a disappointing twelfth in the Breeders' Cup Mile against the boys, a nice win in the Grade 3 Noble Damsel Stakes at Belmont Park September 19 and a win in the minor Fasig-Tipton De La Rose Stakes in August. She had placed in four of five starts before her BC experience and will be out to avenge a career worst effort from post 3 with Elvis Trujillo aboard.
Queen of The Sand - has 29 career starts for trainer Patrick Gallagher with eight wins, five seconds and three third place finishes - a win and three runner-up finishes in eighth starts this year. He won the Grade 3 Santa Barbara Handicap at Santa Anita in April and has been up and down since. Last time out was a second in the Grade 2 Goldikova Stakes here November 1 after a sixth in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes September 26, an eighth in the Grade 2 Yellow Ribbon Stakes three weeks before and she recorded consecutive seconds in the summer - the Grade 2 John C. Mabee Stakes on this track in August and the Grade 2 Royal Heroine Stakes in June. Queen of The Sand hopes for his first win in a year Sunday when he leaves from gate 12 with Brice Blanc in the saddle.
Stellar Path - French bred Christophe Clement trained filly raced in top company at home - the best result was a win in a Group 3 race in October, 2013. She has placed in four of five North American starts - a great win last time out in the Grade 3 Athenia Stakes at Belmont Park October 17 followed consecutive thirds - the minor Avowel Stakes in September and the Grade 3 Eatontown Stakes in June, a fourth in the Grade 2 Nassau Stakes in May and a win in the minor Plenty of Grace Stakes in April. Stellar Path hopes for a second straight graded stakes score Sunday when she leaves from gate 8 with Silvestre de Sousa guiding her.
Gender Agenda - British bred Carla Gaines trained filly has been OK in her career - four wins, three seconds and three third place finishes in 16 career starts. Last time out was a decent third in the Grade 2 Goldikova Stakes here November 1 after a fourth in the minor Swingtime Stakes October 3 and two straight Allowance Optional Claiming scores. She looks for her first stakes score Sunday in decent form - from post 7 with Tyler Baze in the saddle.
Baruta - Brazilian bred Richard Mandella trained mare has placed in 16 of 21 career starts - six wins, seven seconds and three third place finishes. Last time out was a career defining win - in the Grade 3 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes at Santa Anita October 25 after a sixth in the minor CERF Stakes here in September and two straight Allowance scores early in the summer. She has won three of her last four starts and looks as though she is peaking ahead of this weekend. Drayden Van Dyke has been tabbed with keeping the roll going from gate 13.
Filimbi - Bill Mott trained mare has hit the board in 15 of 17 career starts - seven wins, five seconds and three third place finishes. She has looked very good lately - an Allowance Optional Claiming score last time out followed consecutive seconds - the Grade 1 Just a Game Stakes in June and the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley Stakes in April. Before that was a fifth in the Grade 3 Hillsborough Stakes in March and a win to end 2014 in the Grade 2 Goldikova Stakes in November. Filimbi has two wins and two seconds in his last five starts - in great form ahead of this weekend. Jose Lezcano has the mount from post 9.
Olorda - German bred Chad Brown trained filly has just seven career starts with two wins and two third place finishes. She was good in Europe before shipping but has failed to place in two starts in North America. Last time out was a fourth in the Grade 1 QE II Challenge Cup October 10 after an eleventh in the Grade 1 Belmont Oaks Invitational in July - her first start in North America. Olorda looks for a major breakthrough Sunday when she departs from gate 11 with Joel Rosario aboard.
Crowley's Law - British bred Peter Miller trained filly has placed in 13 of 17 career starts. She looked good at home placing in her last four starts in stakes company and has three starts in North America - improving every time out. Last time out was a win in the minor River Memories Stakes at Woodbine October 24 after a second in the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes October 3 and a third in the Grade 3 Noble Damsel Stakes in September. Crowley's Law chases her first graded stakes score and enters in decent form. Rafael Bejarano gets the call from gate 6.
Stormy Lucy - was at her best at the beginning of 2014 when she won the Grade 2 Santa Ana Stakes in March and the Grade 3 Santa Barbara Handicap but has been up and down since. She enters off a fifth in the Grade 2 Goldikova after a third in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive in September, an eight in the Grade 2 John C. Mabee Stakes in August and a third in the Grade 2 Royal Heroine Stakes in June. Stormy Lucy now has seven wins, two seconds and five third place finishes in 30 career starts. She looks for her first win in 19 months Sunday from post 10 with Kent Desormeaux scheduled to ride.
Alexis Tangeir - Alternate Entry Richard Mandella trainee has 11 career starts with four wins, a second and a third place finish. He won the minor Unzip Me Stakes last year and took a year to post victory again - a win in the minor Swingtime Stakes October 3. She has been OK but if she does indeed race will likely be in over her head.
