Obeah Stakes 2015 at Delaware Park

Las Vegas, NV - Delaware Park Racetrack in Wilmington, Delaware will be the scene of the Grade 3 Obeah Stakes on Saturday, June 20. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will be featured when they go 1 1/8 miles on Delaware Park's dirt track searching for the winner's share of the $100,000 purse.

A field of 11 will give it a go in the Obeah Stakes - race 8 on Delaware Park's Saturday schedule. Post time is 4:45 PM. Let's take a peek into the past performances of all 11 combatants for this Grade 3 stakes - a local prep race for the mile and a quarter $750,000 Grade I Delaware Handicap on July 18.

2015 Obeah Stakes Race Favorite Entries

Fortune Pearl 3-1 - H Graham Motion trained filly has four wins, two seconds and a third place finish in 10 career starts and posted a terrific win in the Grade 2 Delaware Oaks last July 5 which followed a good third in her graded stakes debut - the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico in May. She has been a tad up and down since - a seventh last time out in the Grade 3 Distaff Stakes at Pimlico May 15 followed an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Keeneland in April and a fourth in the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes at Saratoga in August. Fortune Pearl has placed in four of her last six starts and is the most experienced against top company of any of the entries for this race. Trevor McCarthy has been tabbed to ride the lukewarm morning line favorite from post 3 Saturday.

Montana Native 4-1 - multiple stakes winning and multiple graded stakes placed Christophe Clement trained mare finished second in this race last year which followed a win in the minor Winter Melody Stakes also on this track. She enters off an eighth in the minor Monmouth Beach Stakes May 24, a third in the minor Sky Beauty Stakes in September and a second in the Grade 2 Molly Pitcher Stakes at Monmouth in July. Montana Native has placed in four of her last five starts overall but hit the track for just the second time in nine months Saturday when she leaves from post 7 with Alex Cintron in the saddle.

Joint Return 5-1 - John Servis trained filly had a pair of good seconds - in the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes at Saratoga August 16 and behind Fortune Pearl in the Grade 2 Delaware Oaks July 5. Before that was a win in the minor Our Mims Stakes June 4 - she also had a 4 1/2 length win in the minor Busher Stakes at Aqueduct February 1 after another pair of wins at Parx in winter/2014. Joint Return hasn't looked great lately however - an OK third last time out in the Grade 3 Distaff Stakes May 15 followed a fourth in the Grade 3 Triple Bend Handicap in April and a sixth in the Grade 1 Cotillion Stakes last September. She has won five of 13 career starts with two seconds and two third place finishes and will be looking to break through in graded stakes company for the first time Saturday. Kendrick Carmouche has the call from post 9.

Another Incident 6-1 - makes her stakes debut Saturday for trainer Nick Zito off an Allowance score at Keeneland April 15 and a sixth and a second in similar races to start her year. Another Incident has 13 career starts with three wins, two seconds and two third place finishes and should be a confident entry after recording her first win in a year last time out. Carol Cedeno will be in the reins trying for a second straight win from gate 2.

Blue Violet 6-1 - finished seventh in this race last year and went on to a two-race win streak after that including the minor Lady's Secret Stakes at Monmouth Park in September. She has been OK since - a fourth last time out in the Grade 3 Distaff Stakes at Pimlico followed a third in the Grade 3 Doubledogdare Stakes at Keeneland in April and another fourth in the minor Houston Ladies Classic in January. Blue Violet has four wins, three seconds and three third place finishes in 21 career starts and looks for her first graded stakes score Saturday from gate 4 with Michael Ritvo guiding her.

Sea Shadow 12-1 - enters having won three of her last four and five of her last seven races. But Saturday makes her graded stakes debut. She enters off a good 4 3/4 length win in the minor Winter Melody Stakes on this track May 20 after a somewhat disappointing fifth in the Grade 3 Sixty Sails Handicap April 18 and a pair of Allowance scores at Parx to begin here year. Sea Shadow is used to being near the top and could be again Saturday. Anthony Stephen rides from the outside post 11.

Amblin Easy 12-1 - has placed in nine of 12 career starts for trainer Robert E. Reid - four wins, a second and four third place finishes. She makes her graded stakes debut off a third place finish in her stakes debut - the minor Monmouth Beach Stakes May 24, an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Parx April 27, a second in a similar race three weeks eelier on that same track and an Allowance win in February. She has been competitive in every race this year and hopes her success translates to graded stakes company. Edwin Rivera rides from gate 8.

Natalie Victoria 15-1 - won four out of five races at the end of 2013/beginning of 2014 - the best being the minor Monmouth Beach Stakes in May. She has failed to place in her last three starts however - a fourth in the 2015 Monmouth Beach Stakes followed a sixth in the minor Summer Colony Stakes in August and a seventh in her last graded stakes start - at Monmouth Park in July. Natalie Victoria has 10 wins, five seconds and six third place finishes in 35 career starts and hopes for her first graded stakes score in her third try from post 5 with Victor Carrasco in the reins.

Luna Time 15-1 - Graham Motion trained filly makes her graded stakes debut Saturday in OK form - a third last time out in her stakes debut - the minor Maryland Racing Media Stakes at Laurel Park in February followed an Allowance Optional Claiming score in December and a second in a similar race in November. Luna Time looks for her first stakes score from gate 10 with Forest Boyce guiding her.

South Andros 20-1 - makes her graded stakes debut Saturday for trainer Rodney Jenkins after 22 career starts yielded four wins, five seconds and three third place finishes. Her last win came on this track - the minor Justakiss Stakes a year ago which she followed with a second in the minor Thirty Eight Go Go Stakes in September. She has failed to place in her last four starts - a fifth last time out in the minor Winter Melody Stakes May 20 on this track followed an eighth in the minor Maryland Racing Media Stakes, and consecutive fifth place finishes. South Andros looks for her first podium finish of the year and her first graded stakes score from gate 6 with Xavier Perez guiding her.

Perique 20-1 - Hamilton Smith trained mare has three wins and two seconds in 12 career starts and is coming off a career worst effort - an eighth in her stakes debut - the Grade 3 Distaff Stakes at Pimlico on May 15. That result followed an Allowance Optional score April 11 and consecutive fifths in similar races. She has placed in just one of her last five starts overall and makes her Delaware Park debut Saturday from the rail with Victor Carrasco aboard.
