Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 2 Pan American Stakes is on tap for a busy Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida this Saturday, March 28. Horses four years old and upward will take to Gulfstream's turf track and go 1 1/2 miles searching for the winner's share of the $150,000 purse.
Nine older entries will take to the track in the Pan American Stakes - race 13 on Gulfstream's stacked Saturday card. Post time is 6:11 PM. Here is a look into the past performances of all nine entries for this Grade 3 stakes.
Twilight Eclipse - is defending champion in this race and is the world record holder at 1 1/2 miles on turf - that record was set in this race. He won the Grade 2 William McKnight Handicap at 12 furlongs December 28, 2013 in wire-to-wire fashion by seven lengths and went on to win the 2014 Mac Diarmida Stakes on this track as well. He then took his show to Dubai where he finished a disappointing twelfth in a Group 1 stakes and returned to North America June 6 and finished a fourth in the minor Belmont Gold Cup Invitational. He's placed in five straight ahead of this race however losing by a total of 2 1/2 lengths in the first four. He was second last time out in the Grade 2 Mac Diarmida Stakes here February 21, was third behind Main Sequence in the Breeders' Cup Turf, second behind Main Sequence in the Grade 1 Joe Hirsch Classic at Belmont Park September 27, an OK third behind Main Sequence in the Grade 1 Sword Dancer at Saratoga August 17 and a decent second as favorite behind Main Sequence in the Grade 1 United Nations Stakes July 6. He has 22 career starts with six wins, five seconds and three third place finishes but looks for his first win in his last seven starts overall. Twilight Eclipse is due, will be happy not to see 2014 Horse of the Year Main Sequence and will have Javier Castellano in the irons from gate 8.
Change of Command - has 33 career starts for trainer Jorge Navarro with nine wins, six seconds and seven third place finishes. He enters off a respectable third in the Grade 3 Mac Diarmida Stakes here February 21 (the first time he placed in graded stakes company), an Allowance Optional Claiming score January 16 (his first win in 19 months) and a second in a similar race December 20 - both results on this track. Change of Command has placed in his last three starts overall and is definitely trending upward ahead of this race. Gabriel Saez has the mount from post 6.
Imagining - won two straight races in the summer of 2012 - both at Belmont Park and was out of racing for nine months. He looked good at the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014 - a win in the Grade 1 Man o' War Stakes May 11 followed a second in the 2014 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap and a two race win streak - the 2013 Grade 3 Red Smith Handicap at Aqueduct November 16 and the overnight Bowl Game Stakes at Belmont Park that October. He enters off an eighth in the Grade 1 Gulfstream Park Turf February 7, a seventh in the Breeders' Cup Turf, a third in the Grade 1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic and a good second in the Grade 1 Sword Dancer August 18. Imagining has been hit and miss in his career but enters in sketchy form after two of his worst career finishes. Jockey Irad Ortiz will try to right the ship Saturday from post 3.
Money Talker - Sid Attard trained gelding made his stakes debut in August and finished an OK second in the Grade 2 Sky Classic Stakes at Woodbine. He has three starts since - a fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming, a win in a similar race October 10 at Woodbine and an OK fourth last time out in the Grade 2 Mac Diarmida Stakes here February 21. He now has 22 career starts with five wins, two seconds and two third place finishes and enters in OK form - two wins and a third in his last five starts overall. Rafael Manuel Hernandez will be in charge Saturday from the rail.

Artic North - finished third in the Grade 2 San Gabriel Stakes in January, 2014 and hadn't seen graded stakes action again since a sixth last time out in the Grade 2 Mac Diarmida Stakes February 21. Before that he placed in four straight starts overall however - a second in the minor H. Allen Jerkins Stakes on this track January 31 after an Allowance Optional Claiming score in October and a second and a third in similar races this past summer. Artic North has 15 career starts with three wins, two seconds and two third place finishes and looks for his first graded stakes score from post 2 Saturday with Paco Lopez aboard.
Glenard - Graham Motion trained British bred gelding had three wins, two seconds and three third place finishes in 18 starts at home before debuting in the States with a nice runner-up finish in the Grade 3 Fair Grounds Handicap February 21. He failed to place in his last two starts before shipping but looked good last time out. Edgar Prado has been tabbed to ride from the outside post Saturday.
Pyrite Mountain - had four straight seconds last year for trainer Todd Pletcher - in the Grade 3 Kentucky Turf Cup Stakes September 13 and three straight in Allowance company. He has three starts since - an eighth in the Grade 1 Pattison Canadian International Stakes at Woodbine in October, a fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming here January 17 and a respectable third last time out in the Grade 3 Fair Grounds Handicap February 21. Pyrite Mountain has won two minor stakes and is multiple graded stakes placed but looks for his first win in graded stakes company Saturday - from post 7 with the legendary John Velazquez aboard.
Street Chief - William Bradley trained gelding makes his stakes debut Saturday after 15 career starts produced just one win, two seconds and two third place finishes. He finally broke maiden two back in his fourteenth career start and was second last time out in a Starter Optional Claiming February 20 - both results on this track. For what its worth he does enter in the best form of his career and will leave from gate 4 with Angel Serpa in the reins.
Desvelo - Argentinean trained gelding had two wins at home before shipping. Since arriving in America he has 11 starts with a Claiming score at Monmouth Park in June being his best result. Last time out was a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming here March 7 after a fourth in the minor H. Allen Jerkens Stakes on this track in January and a fourth in his only graded stakes action to date - the Grade 3 Valedictory Stakes at Woodbine December 7. Not a whole lot is expected Saturday when he leaves from post 4 with Luis Saez in the irons.
