2015 Madison Stakes Race Favorite Entries

Stopchargingmaria - two time Grade 1 winning Todd Pletcher trained filly was last seen running second in the Grade 1 Beldame Stakes in her first start against older competition - at Belmont Park way back in September. That followed a three race win streak - the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes in August, the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico May 16 and in dominating fashion in the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks by five lengths July 20. Other good results include a nice win in the Grade 2 Demoiselle Stakes at Aqueduct November 30, 2013, an equally impressive win by 10 3/4 lengths in the Grade 3 Tempted Stakes November 3 of that year, a third in the Grade 1 Frizette and a second in the Grade 1 Spinaway. Stopchargingmaria has six wins (five graded stakes), two seconds and a third place finish in 11 career starts and looked terrific before her recent layoff. John Velazquez will be in the saddle from post in Stopchargingmaria's first start in eight months - hoping to keep her at the top of her game.

Lady Sabelia - Robin Graham trained mare made her graded stakes debut February 14 and won the Grade 2 Barbara Fritchie Handicap after leading all the way at Laurel Park to make it four wins in a row. The other victories include the minor What a Summer Stakes January 3, the minor Willa On the Move Stakes December 6 and an Allowance Optional Claiming October 29 - all at Laurel Park. She also won the minor Red Cross Stakes at Monmouth Park in June. Lady Sabelia has placed in 13 of 14 starts - eight wins, two seconds and three third place finishes and looks terrific ahead of this weekend. Horacio Karamanos has the call from gate 4.

Madison Stakes 2015 | Remaining Contenders

Sam's Sister - Jerry Hollendorfer trained filly has been impressive in her seven race career - five wins. She made a successful step up into graded stakes company three back - a nice win in the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes at 12-1 odds at Santa Anita December 26 and followed that with another impressive win - by 1 1/4 lengths in the Grade 2 Santa Monica Stakes also at Santa Anita January 19. Last time out was a bit of a hiccup however - a fourth behind Lady Sabelia in the Grade 2 Barbara Fritchie Handicap at Laurel Park February 14. Her only other blemish came November 21 - an eighth in her only turf start in an Allowance Optional Claiming. Sam's Sister tries to bounce back after an underwhelming performance last time out from the rail with the legendary Gary Stevens guiding the 123 pound highweight.

Princess Violet - Michael Hushion trained filly has nine career starts with four wins and four second place finishes. She enters off consecutive runner-up finishes - last time out behind Lady Sabelia in the Grade 2 Barbara Fritchie Handicap February 14 and as 2-1 favorite in the Grade 3 Go for Wand Handicap at Aqueduct November 28. Before that were consecutive wins - the minor Empire Distaff Handicap by 5 1/2 lengths at Belmont Park October 18 and an Allowance in dominant fashion on that same track two weeks earlier. She also had a very good second behind Untapable in the Grade 1 Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont Park June 28. Princess Violet has two wins and two seconds in her last four starts overall and looks for her first graded stakes score from the outside post with Junior Alvarado in the reins.

Wedding Toast - Kiaran McLaughlin trained mare has placed in all eight career starts - five wins, two seconds and a third place finish. She enters off a third in the Grade 3 Rampart Stakes at Gulfstream February 21, a win in the minor Miami Shores Handicap in January and eight months away. Before the layoff was a second in the minor Cat Cay Stakes in April and a terrific four race win streak - the best of which came in the Grade 3 Comely Stakes in November, 2013. Wedding Toast is used to being at or near the top - hopes are that she continues that trend. Jose Lezcano rides from gate 2.

Clearly Confused - Richard Baltas trained mare has 25 career starts with six wins, seven seconds and two third place finishes and races in graded stakes company for the second time - the first resulted in a fourth in the Grade 2 Great Lady M Stakes at Los Alamitos in July. She attempts to snap a six race losing streak Saturday but looks to be in tough. Julien Leparoux has been tabbed to ride from post 5.
