Las Vegas, NV - Los Alamitos Race Course in Los Alamitos, California will play host to the Grade 1 Starlet Stakes, formerly the Hollywood Starlet Stakes at the now defunct Hollywood Park, this Saturday, December 12. Two year old fillies will be featured when they take to Los Alamitos dirt track and race 1 1/16 miles for the winner's share of the $300,000 purse and the 10 qualifying points toward next year's Kentucky Oaks.
Nine juvenile females will take to the track in the Starlet Stakes - race 8 on Los Alamitos Saturday schedule. Post time is 3:58 PM. Let's take a peek into the past performances of all nine combatants for this intriguing Grade 1 stakes.
Stays in Vegas - has four wins in five career starts for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer - all of the wins coming in minor stakes races. Last time out was a win in the Pike Place Dancer Stakes at Golden Gate November 1 after a victory in the Surer Girl Stakes at Santa Anita October 10 (both of those wins coming on turf), a fifth in her only graded stakes action - behind Songbird and Pretty N Cool in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante in September and wins in the Wine Country Debutante in August and the Juan Gonzalez Memorial at first asking in July. Stays in Vegas has been mighty impressive so far but hopes for her first graded stakes score Saturday on her sixth different track so far. Alex Solis has been tabbed with accomplishing that goal from post 3.
Pretty N Cool - intriguing Bob Baffert trained filly has five career starts with three wins and a second place finish. She had been a factor in every career start before last time out and will be out to avenge that uncharacteristic performance from the outside post 9. Martin Garcia has the mount on the only graded stakes winner in the field.
Pacific Heat - has won both of her career starts for trainer Peter Eurton. She makes her graded stakes debut off a good win by 5 1/4 lengths in the minor Golden State Juvenile Fillies Stakes at Del Mar October 29 and a 5 1/2 furlong maiden score at first asking - on this track by an astounding 13 1/2 lengths in September. She tries to make it 3-for-3 in a major step up in competition with Joe Talamo guiding her from gate 4.
Treasuring - Bob Baffert trained filly has placed in all four career starts - a win, a second and two third place finishes. She enters off a respectable second in the minor Desi Arnaz Stakes November 15 at Del Mar after a maiden score by 7 1/4 lengths on this track September 19 and consecutive thirds to start her career. Treasuring has been in every race so far in her career and is expected to be again Saturday. Victor Espinoza has been tabbed to ride from the rail in her graded stakes debut.
