Super Derby 2015 at Louisiana Downs

Las Vegas, NV - Louisiana Downs in Bossier City, Louisiana will play host to the Grade 2 Super Derby on Saturday, September 12. Horses three years old and upward will be featured as they take to Louisiana Downs dirt track and race 1 1/8 miles searching for the winner's share of the $400,000 purse.

Seven older horses will give it a run in the Super Derby - race 11 on Louisiana Downs Saturday card. Post time is 5:12 PM. Here is a brief glance into the past performances of all seven combatants for this Grade 2 stakes - all of which will be looking for their first graded stakes score.

2015 Super Derby Race Favorite Entries

The Pickett Factor 8-5 - local entry and Ralph Irwin trainee has four wins and a third place finish in five career starts - three straight wins ahead of this weekend by a combined 12 1/4 lengths. He enters off a good win in his stakes debut - the minor Super Derby Prelude Stakes here August 8 after two Allowance scores on this track during the summer. The Pickett Factor makes his graded stakes debut in terrific form and will have Donnie Meche aboard the morning line favorite for his step up in competition.

Allied Air Raid 9-5 - has six career starts for trainer Brad Cox with two wins, three seconds and a third place finish. He enters on the heels of consecutive runner-up finishes - behind The Pickett Factor the minor Super Derby Prelude Stakes August 8 and the Grade 3 Iowa Derby in June. Before that was an OK third in his stakes debut - the minor Prairie Mile here May 30 and two straight wins - an Allowance Optional Claiming in April at Oaklawn Park and a maiden score on that same track in March. Allied Air Raid has been in every race of his career so far and hopes to continue to produce from post 5 with Chris Landeros in the irons of the morning line second choice.

Super Derby 2015 | Remaining Contenders

Prime Engine 9-2 - Michael Puhich trained colt has placed in five of seven career starts - three wins and two second place finishes. He enters off a win in the minor Emerald Downs Derby August 9, a pair of seconds in minor stakes action - the Seattle Slew Handicap in July and the Coca-Cola Handicap in June - all results at Emerald Downs. He has just one career graded stakes start - an eighth in the Grade 3 Delta Downs Jackpot in November. Prime Engine has been trending upward and will be after his first ever graded stakes score Saturday. Joseph Steiner has been tabbed to ride from the rail.

Mobile Bay 6-1 - finished third last time out behind The Pickett Factor and Allied Air Raid in the minor Super derby Prelude Stakes August 8. That result followed three straight wins at Evangeline - the minor Louisiana Legends Cheval Stakes in June, the minor Lafayette Stakes in June and an Allowance in May - all wins at Evangeline. He now has four wins, two seconds and two third place finishes in nine career starts and enters in pretty good form. Edgar Prado gets the call from post 7.

Chocopologie 12-1 - has placed in all six career starts for trainer Patrick Devereaux - two wins, two seconds and two third place finishes. He makes his stakes debut Saturday off an Allowance score August 19 at Evangeline. Before that were consecutive runner-up finishes in similar races in July. Chocopologie has looked good in lesser competition and hopes to carry that success over to stakes action. Richard Eramia has the mount from gate 6.

Four Leaf Chief 12-1 - has 13 career starts for trainer Steven Flint with four wins, three seconds and a third place finish. He enters off s seventh in the minor Super Derby Prelude Stakes here August 8, a decent second in the minor Louisiana Legends Cheval Stakes in July, a fourth in the minor Evangeline Mile in June and a win in the minor Crescent City Derby at Fair Grounds in March. His only graded stakes race resulted in an eleventh place finish in the Grade 3 LeComte Stakes in January. Four Leaf Chief has placed in four of his last six starts overall and enters in so-so form. Gerard Melancon has been tabbed with getting him his first graded stakes score from gate 2.

Fusaichi Flame 20-1 - Scott Gelner trained colt finished fourth in the minor Super Derby Prelude Stakes here August 8 after a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming in July, a tenth in the Grade 3 Iowa Derby in June and a fifth in the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby in March. Fusaichi Flame has two wins, three seconds and two third place finishes in 11 career starts but has placed in just one of his last four starts overall. He looks as though he will be in deep Saturday when he leaves from gate 4 with Shane Laviolette in the saddle.
