A field of seven plus three main track only entries have been confirmed for the Red Bank - race 10 on Monmouth's Saturday schedule. Post time is 5:15 PM. Let's take a look into the past performances of all 10 possible entries for this Grade 3 stakes.
Heart to Heart - Canada's champion 3-year-old male for last season, multiple Grade 3 winning Brian Lynch trained colt was last seen running fourth in the Grade 2 Mathis Brothers Mile December 26 at Santa Anita. He had four wins and a third place finish in eight starts last year - five wins, a second and two thirds in 13 career starts. Before the Mathis Brothers was a nice three race win streak - the Grade 3 Commonwealth Turf Stakes at Churchill Downs November 15, the Grade 3 Jefferson Cup Stakes on that same track in September and the minor Better Talk Now Stake in wire-to-wire fashion at Saratoga in August. Heart to Heart looks to get back to his winning ways when he leaves from gate 6 with Paco Lopez aboard the probable morning line favorite.
Rose Brier - has placed in 21 of 25 starts for trainer Jane Cibelli and finished fourth in this race last year. After that he reeled off three wins, three seconds and a third place finish - the best of which was a win in the minor Bert Allen Stakes at Laurel Park in September. He is coming off a third in an Allowance at Keeneland April 15, a Starter Optional Claiming score in February and an OK fourth in the Grade 3 Tampa Bay Stakes January 24. Rose Brier has four wins, three seconds and two third place finishes in his last 10 starts - competitive virtually every time out. Florent Geroux has been tabbed to ride from gate 4 as Rose Brier looks for his first graded stakes score.
Winning Cause - finished second in this race last year and went on to a third in the Grade2 Monmouth Stakes last June and a fourth in the Grade 1 United Nations Stakes. He ended last summer with a career best performance - a win in the Grade 3 Cliff Hanger Stakes here in August. Winning Cause hasn't looked great lately however - a seventh last time out in an Allowance Optional Claiming March 6 followed a sixth in the Grade 3 Knickerbocker Stakes at Belmont Park in December and an OK third in the PTHA President's Cup at Parx. He has a win, a second, a third and a fourth place finish in his last four starts on this track and will be eager to snap a slump on his favorite track. Abel Castellano Jr. has the mount from post 3.
Slim Shadey - British bred gelding some graded stakes scores in 2012/2013 including the Grade 2 San Marcos Stakes two years in a row and the Grade 2 John Henry Turf Championship but hasn't been great since. He finished third in this race last year and went on to an eleventh in the Grade 2 Monmouth Oaks and a win in the minor Elkwood Stakes in July. Last time out was a fourth in the minor Elusive Quality Stakes at Belmont Park April 29 which followed a Claiming score in November and a fourth in the minor Temperance Hill Invitational Stakes in October. Slim Shadey has placed in just of his last five starts and just one of his last four graded stakes tries. He will attempt to regain his form from two years ago when he leaves from post 5 with Gabriel Saez guiding him.
Guys Reward - Dale Romans pupil won last year's Tampa Bay Stakes in a 15-1 upset and also won the Grade 3 Oceanport Stakes at Monmouth Park in July with some sketchy results sprinkled in there as well. He has failed to place in his last five starts overall - an eighth last time out in the Grade 3 Canadian Turf Stakes February 21 followed a seventh in the 2015 Tampa Bay Stakes, a fourth in the Grade 3 River City Handicap at Churchill Downs November 8, a fifth in the minor More Than Ready Mile in September and a fourth in the Grade 3 Cliff Hanger at Monmouth Park in August. He did post a good win on this track less than a year ago -hopes are he can do it again when he leaves from gate 2 with Charles Lopez in the reins.
