Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 3 Affirmed Stakes comes our way this Sunday, June 7 from Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. Three year olds will be featured in this 1 1/16 mile race as they chase the winner's portion of the $100,000 purse.
A talented field of just five will take to the track in the Affirmed Stakes - race 3 on Santa Anita's Sunday schedule. Post time is 1:30 PM. Let's take a peek into the past performances of all five entries for this Grade 3 stakes.
Prospect Park - has seven career starts with two wins, two seconds and a third place finish and was on the Triple Crown trail before and irregular blood count derailed that plan. He enters off a somewhat disappointing fourth at 3-1 odds in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby April 4 after a decent second behind Dortmund in his graded stakes debut- the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes with a career best 102 Beyer Speed Figure March 7 and a two race win streak - an Allowance Optional Claiming by an impressive 5 1/4 lengths here January 30 and a maiden score November 27 also on this track. He has two wins and a second place finish in his last four starts and hopes to rebound from an uncharacteristic effort with Kent Desormeaux guiding him from the outside post 5.
Om - has just four career starts for trainer Dan Hendricks with two wins and will make his graded stakes debut Sunday. He enters off a dominating 2 1/4 length Allowance Optional Claiming score on this track May 10 after a fifth in his only stakes action to date - the minor San Pedro Stakes also on this track April 12. Om is the only horse to ever beat American Pharoah by 7 1/4 lengths- that race came back in August. He will look to make a little noise in stakes company in his first dirt try Sunday with Fernando Hernandez Perez in the saddle from gate 4./p>
Gimme Da Lute - Bob Baffert trained colt has placed in all five career starts - two wins, a second and two third place finishes. He won the minor Echo Eddie Stakes in dominating fashion here in his stakes debut April 4 and has finished third in consecutive stakes starts since - the minor Chick Lang Stakes as 9-5 favorite at Pimlico May 16 and the Grade 3 Pat Day Mile Stakes at Churchill Downs May 2. Gimme Da Lute has been competitive every time out and is expected to be again Sunday - from the rail with Martin Garcia aboard.

Cyrus Alexander - has seven career starts for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer with two wins, three seconds and two third place finishes - Sunday marks his stakes debut. Cyrus Alexander arrives off an Allowance Optional Claiming score by 2 1/2 lengths April 16, a second by just a neck in a similar race February 27 and a maiden score February 7 in his fifth career start. He has been at or near the top in every career start and looks ready for his step up. Rafael Bejarano has been tabbed to ride Cyrus Alexander from gate 2 Sunday.
Cross the Line - Jerry Hollendorfer trained colt placed in his first five career starts (all at Golden Gate) but enters off two straight disappointing efforts - a fifth in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby April 4 - his dirt debut and a fifth last time out in the Grade 3 Illinois Derby April 18. Before those results were good second in his graded stakes debut - the Grade 3 El Camino Real Derby February 14 and a nice two race win streak - in the minor California Derby January 17 after a maiden score December 26. Cross the Line will be looking to bounce back after an ugly stretch when he departs from post 3 with Corey Nakatani guiding him.
