A field of eight two year olds have been confirmed for the FrontRunner Stakes - race 5 on Santa Anita's packed Saturday card. Post time is 2:30PM. Let's take a look into the past performances of all eight combatants for this intriguing Grade 1 stakes -a Breeders' Cup Challenge "Win and You're In" event for the Oct. 31 Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile and a race that some horse named American Pharoah won last year.
Nyquist - Doug O'Neill trained colt has been terrific in his three race career - he has won all. Last time out was in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity September 7 after wins in the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes also at Del Mar August 8 and a MSW in June - his two stakes scored came by a combined nine lengths. He hasn't been touched so far in his career and is definitely the one to catch Saturday in his first try around two turns. Mario Gutierrez has the mount on the obvious favorite from gate 4.
Swipe - Kent Desormeaux trained colt has placed in all five career starts - a win, three seconds and a third place finish. Last time out was a second behind Nyquist in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity September 7 after another second behind Nyquist in the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes and a win in his stakes debut - the minor Summer Juvenile Championship Stakes at Los Alamitos in July. Swipe has been competitive every time out and will try again to best his rival Nyquist when he leaves from post 7 with Kent Desormeaux guiding him.
Blameitonthelaw - John Sadler trained colt won his debut by 4 1/4 lengths at Del Mar August 2 and followed that with a respectable third behind Nyquist and Swipe in his stakes debut - the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity September 7. He has shown improvement so far in his young career and hopes to keep that trend going from post 3 with Tyler Baze guiding him in his first start around two turns.
Mt Veeder - Bob Baffert trained colt is undefeated in two career starts. Last time out the win came in his stakes debut - the minor Contender Stakes at Los Alamitos September 13 after a maiden score at first asking. Martin Garcia has been tabbed with keeping the impressive run going - from the outside post 8 Saturday.
Hollywood Don - finished seventh in his debut but has reeled off two straight wins since. He broke maiden two starts back August 12 and followed that with a good win in his stakes debut - the minor Del Mar Juvenile Turf Stakes at Del Mar September 5. Hollywood Don looks for a third straight win Saturday and enters in good form. Brice Blanc gets the call from post 5.
