Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 3 Robert J. Frankel Stakes is on tap for Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California this Sunday, December 27. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will be featured when they take to Santa Anita's turf track and race 1 1/8 miles for the winner's share of the $100,000 purse.
A full field of 14 will give it a go in the Robert J. Frankel Stakes - race 8 on Santa Anita's Sunday schedule. Post time is 4:00 PM. Here is a look into the past performances of all 14 combatants for this Grade 3 stakes.
Glory 4-1 - Jerry Hollendorfer trained filly has three wins, two seconds and a third place finish in eight career starts. She enters on a two race win streak - both Allowance Optional Claiming races in impressive fashion. Before that were a fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming in September, a sixth in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks in April and an OK third in the Grade 3 Santa Ysabel Stakes in February. Glory has been OK so far and could be peeking for her first stakes win Sunday. Mike Smith has the mount on the tepid morning line favorite from gate 12.
Rusty Slipper 9-2 - Graham Motion trained mare has six wins and two third place finishes in 17 career starts. The wins include the Grade 3 Violet Stakes at Monmouth Park in August, 2014, the minor Glen Hill Farm One Dreamer Stakes at Kentucky Downs three starts back September 19 and last time out in the Grade 3 Red Carpet Stakes November 21. Other than that she hasn't been great the last year - failing to place six of her last nine starts overall. Two starts back was a fourth in the Grade 3 Athenia Stakes at Belmont Park October 17 after the minor stakes score and three straight seventh place finishes in stakes action this past summer. Rusty Slipper has actually won two of her last three races and enters this week in the best form we've seen in quite some time. James Graham will be in the irons of the morning line second choice hoping to keep the upward trend going in her move back to turf from gate 4.
Alexis Tangier 5-1 - Richard Mandella trained filly has four wins, a second and a third place finish and enters off one of those wins - the minor Swingtime Stakes on this track October 3. Before that was a disappointing seventh in the Grade 2 Yellow Ribbon Handicap at Del Mar September 6, a fourth in the Grade 2 Royal Heroine Stakes on this track in June and a third in the minor Mizdirection Stakes in May. She has two minor stakes scores in her career but looks to place in graded stakes company for the first time in her fourth try. Gary Stevens will be in the saddle of the third betting choice hoping for Alexis Tangier's second straight win - from post 3.
Stormy Lucy 6-1 - was at her best at the beginning of 2014 when she won the Grade 2 Santa Ana Stakes in March and the Grade 3 Santa Barbara Handicap but has been up and down since. She enters off a great win at 65-1 odds in the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes at Del Mar November 29 which followed a fifth in the Grade 2 Goldikova, a third in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive in September, an eight in the Grade 2 John C. Mabee Stakes in August and a third in the Grade 2 Royal Heroine Stakes in June. Stormy Lucy now has eight wins, two seconds and five third place finishes in 31 career starts. She hopes to build off her first win in 19 months Sunday from post 7 with Kent Desormeaux scheduled to ride the intriguing fourth choice and co-highweight.
Warren's Veneda 8-1 - Craig Lewis trained had looked unstoppable before her last six starts overall. She enters on the heels of consecutive disappointing seventh place finishes - in the Breeders' Cup Distaff, and in the Grade 1 Zenyatta Stakes September 26. Before that was an OK third in the Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes in August, a fourth in the Grade 2 Lady M. Stakes at Los Alamitos July 11, a second to Beholder in the Grade 2 Adoration Stakes June 13 and a third as 1-10 favorite in the Grade 1 Vanity Stakes May 9. She had an impressive three race win streak to start her year - by 7 1/4 lengths with a 100 Beyer Speed Figure in the Grade 1 Santa Margarita Stakes March 14, by 3 3/4 lengths in the Grade 2 Santa Maria Stakes February 14 and a nice win by 5 1/2 lengths in the minor Paseana Stakes January 11. Warren's Veneda now has eight wins, four seconds and seven third place finishes in 28 career starts but has placed in just one of her last four starts overall. She looks to get back to the form she had a year ago as she switches to turf from post 9 with Tyler Baze in the irons.
Three Hearts 8-1 - defending third place finisher in this race has 21 career starts for trainer Neil Drysdale with three wins, four seconds and six third place finishes. She won last year's Grade 3 Red Carpet Handicap but hasn't tasted victory since. Last time out was a third in the 2015 Red Carpet Handicap which followed a fourth in the minor Kathryn Crosby Stakes November 7, a seventh in the Grade 3 Starts and Stripes Stakes at Arlington in July and a ninth in the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes at Santa Anita in May. She was very good at this time last year but has placed in just one of her last four starts overall. Joe Talamo has been pegged to snap a seven race losing streak Sunday when they leave from gate 2.
Gender Agenda 10-1 - British bred Carla Gaines trained filly has been OK in her career - four wins, three seconds and three third place finishes in 17 career starts. Last time out was an OK fifth in the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes at Del Mar November 29 after a decent third in the Grade 2 Goldikova Stakes November 1, a fourth in the minor Swingtime Stakes October 3 and two straight Allowance Optional Claiming scores. She looks for her first stakes score Sunday in so-so form - from post 11 with Rafael Bejarano in the saddle.

Peace and War 12-1 - won the Grade 1 Darley Alcibiades Stakes at Keeneland last October but has been inconsistent since. She enters off a fifth in the Grade 3 Comely Stakes at Aqueduct November 28 which followed a twelfth in the Breeders' Cup Distaff, a third in the Grade 1 Cotillion Stakes at Parx September 19 and consecutive seconds - the best of which was in the Grade 3 Delaware Oaks July 11. She was OK in the summer placing in three straight but other than that has been looking for a good run. Jockey Joel Rosario hopes to give her that from gate 6 Sunday.
Nancy From Nairobi 12-1 - John Sadler trained British bred filly has two wins and seven second place finishes in 17 career starts. She makes her North American debut Sunday off a win at Newmarket August 7, a second in July and three straight off-the-board finishes early in the summer. She has been up and down so far in her career and is expected to be in deep in this one. Drayden Van Dyke has been tabbed to ride from the rail.
Gas Total 12-1 - Brazilian bred Richard Mandella trained mare was OK at home but went on a nice run once she shipped to North America. She debuted here in March and won an Allowance Optional Claiming and went on to a second in the Grade 1 Vanity Stakes May 9, a second in the minor Possibly Perfect Handicap in June (both results on this track), and a win in the minor Osunitas Stakes at Del Mar in July. She stumbled last time out however to a tenth in the minor Tranquility Stakes at Del Mar September 2. Gas Total now has 29 career starts with five wins, eight seconds and a third place finish and will be out to rebound from an ugly effort last time out. Flavien Prat will be aboard from an unfortunate outside post.
Fresh Feline 20-1 - John Sherreffs trained filly will make her stakes debut Sunday having recorded two wins, five seconds and three third place finishes in 12 career starts. She has placed in six straight races ahead of this weekend (all Allowance Optional Claiming) - a win, four seconds and a third place finish - the win coming in April on this track. Fresh Feline hopes her success against lesser competition translates when she leaves from gate 8 with Victor Espinoza in the reins.
Honey Ride 20-1 - has three wins, a second and two third place finishes in 12 career starts for trainer John Sadler. She looks for her first stakes score Sunday off a seventh in the minor Tranquility Stakes at Del Mar September 23, a fifth in the Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes in August and wins in two of three Allowance Optional Claiming in the spring. Honey Ride has failed to place in her last two starts overall and hopes to change that Sunday from post 13 with Abel Lezcano guiding her.
Star Act 30-1 - Art Sherman trained filly enters on the heels of consecutive seventh place finishes - the Grade 3 Red Carpet Handicap last time out November 21 and the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes at Santa Anita September 26 - those were her worst effort in quite some time. Before that was a third in the minor CTT and TOC Handicap August 21 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score here July 23. Star Act has just two wins, four seconds and four third place finishes in 16 career starts but has placed in six of her last eight starts ahead of this weekend. She looks to snap an ugly stretch from post 5 with Kieran Fallon guiding her.
Sweet as a Rose 30-1 - Peter Gallagher trained filly makes her graded stakes debut Sunday after 14 career starts yielded just two wins, three seconds and three third place finishes. Last time out was a distant sixth in her stakes debut - the minor Kathryn Crosby Stakes at Del Mar November 7 after an Allowance Optional Claiming score here in October and a third in a similar race in August. She has been just OK in her career so far and looks to be in over her head in this one. Brice Blanc rides from gate 10.
