Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 2 San Luis Rey Stakes comes our way this Saturday, March 21 from Santa Anita in Arcadia, California. Horses four years old and upward will take to Santa Anita's turf track and go 1 1/2 miles searching for the winner's share of the $200,000 purse.

2015 San Luis Rey Stakes Race Favorite Entries

Finnegan's Wake - Peter Miller trainee has six wins, three seconds and three third place finishes in 27 career starts and enters in the best form of his career - three straight wins ahead of this weekend. Last time out was a win in the Grade 2 San Marcos Stakes here February 7 after wins in the Grade 2 San Gabriel Stakes January 3 and in the Grade 2 Hollywood Turf Cup at this distance at Del Mar November 27. Before that however was a career worst effort - a tenth at 58-1 odds in the Breeders' Cup Turf. Other good results include a win in the Grade 3 Arlington Handicap in July and a second in September in the Grade 2 John Henry Turf Championship September 28. He has been terrific lately and is definitely the one to catch Saturday. Victor Espinoza rides from gate 8.

Power Foot - has 20 career starts for trainer Neil Drysdale with four wins and four third place finishes - just one win in five starts last year. He is coming off a respectable third behind Finnegans Wake in the Grade 2 San Marcos Stakes here February 7 which followed an Allowance Optional Claiming score here January 8 and consecutive fourths to end his 2014 campaign - the Grade 2 Hollywood Turf Cup in November and the minor More Than Ready Mile in September. Power Foot has placed in his last two starts and looks OK ahead of this weekend. Flavien Prat will be in the saddle from gate 4.

Diamond Bachelor - Patrick Biancoe pupil started his career with two straight wins but hasn't tasted victory since. He raced to a ninth in the 2013 Breeders' Cup Juvenile and followed that with a fourth in the 2014 Robert B. Lewis Stakes and has placed in two of 13 starts since that race. Last time out was a twelfth in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap which followed a seventh in an Allowance Optional Claiming here February 27, a fourth (after getting disqualified from second) in the Grade 2 San Marcos Stakes February 7 and a fifth in an Allowance Optional February 1. Diamond Bachelor looks for his first win in 18 months and returns to his favorite surface in this one in this one. Martin Pedroza has the call from post 3.

Play Hard to Get - has just nine career starts with three wins - one of them coming last time out in an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track February 27. Before that win were consecutive fourths including his only stakes action to date - the Grade 3 Daytona Stakes here December 28. Before that he won two of three races - an Allowance Optional Claiming and Del Mar in November and a maiden in August in his fourth career start. Play Hard to Get looks to break through in stakes company for the first time in his first start at 1 1/2 miles with Kent Desormeaux in the reins from gate 3.

Joes Blazing Aaron - Robert Hess trained gelding has 37 career starts with seven wins, three seconds and four third place finishes. He enters having recorded three wins, a second and a third place finish in his last six starts - no stakes. His last stakes action came a year ago when he finished fourth in the Grade 2 Pan American Stakes and he hasn't placed in graded stakes company since a second in the 2013 Canadian Turf Stakes. Joes Blazing Aaron has looked good against lesser company but is winless in his career at this distance. Joe Talamo has the mount from post 6.

Ashleyluvssugar - has nine career starts for trainer Peter Eurton with four wins and two third place finishes. He enters having won two of his last three starts - both Allowance Optional Claiming races the past three months. Ashleyluvssugar makes his stakes debut Saturday from the outside post with the legend Gary Stevens in the saddle

Buymeabond - has 21 career starts with eight wins and three third place finishes - Saturday marks his stakes debut. He has won two of his last three starts - both Claiming victories on this track. Buymeabond makes a huge leap up in competition Saturday from post 5 with Ignacio Puglisi aboard.

Fly Lexis Fly - Peter Miller pupil and two time Peruvian classic has failed to place in three starts since a third in the Grade 1 Eddie Read Stakes at Del Mar in July, 2013. Last time out was a fifth in an Allowance Optional Claiming February 20 after an eighth in the minor Clocker's Corner Stakes in January and a seventh in the Grade 2 Californian in May, 2014. He has 15 career starts with three wins, two seconds and three third place finishes but hasn't posted victory on North American soil. He hopes to snap that streak with Edwin Maldonado aboard from post 7.

Raise Your Gaze - British bred John Sadler trained gelding has 13 career starts with just two wins, a second and two third place finishes. He posted a win three back in September at home before finishing tenth in his last race before shipping. Raise Your Gaze has just one start in North America - a sixth in an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track March 12. He looks to be in tough in this one when he leaves from the rail with Tyler Baze aboard.
