Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 2 Santa Ana Stakes comes our way from Santa Anita in Arcadia, California this Sunday, March 15. Fillies and mares four years old and upward will take to Santa Anita's turf track and go 1 1/8 miles searching for the winner's share of the $200,000 purse.
A deep and competitive group of 11 older females have been confirmed for the Santa Ana - race 7 on Santa Anita's Sunday schedule. Post time is 3:30 PM. Here is a brief peek into the past performances of all 11 entries for this Grade 2 stakes.
Diversy Harbor - Tom Proctor trained filly has 10 career starts with three wins, four seconds and a third place finish -a terrific win last time out at 9-2 odds in the Grade 2 Buena Vista Stakes February 16 followed consecutive runner-up finishes on this track as well - the Grade 3 Robert J. Frankel Stakes in December and the Grade 3 Autumn Miss Stakes in October. Before that she failed to place in two starts - a sixth in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks which followed a fourth as favorite in the Grade 2 San Clemente Stakes here July 19. She also had a good second in the Grade 1 American Oaks May 31 at Santa Anita, a third in the Grade 2 Honeymoon Stakes May 4 and a second in the Grade 3 Providencia Stakes April 5. Diversy Harbor has been competitive almost every time out and will be looking to keep the upward trend going. She looks for her second straight graded stakes score with Gary Stevens in the reins of the 123 pound highweight from gate 4.
Testa Rossi - multiple graded stakes winning French bred Chad Brown trained filly has six starts in North America with some good results - the best being a win over Istanford in the Grade 3 Florida Oaks March 8 and last time out in a win by DQ in the Grade 3 Endeavour Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs January 31. She also had a come from behind win in the 2013 Grade 3 Miss Grillo Stakes at Belmont Park October 6 and a good second in the 2013 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. Testa Rossi has mixed in a seventh as favorite in the Grade 2 Mrs. Revere Stakes November 15 and a fourth in the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes in April. Before shipping she had three straight wins at home. Testa Rossi now has six wins and two second place finishes in 11 career starts and looks like she is back to form after a couple of unflattering results. Queen of The Sand - Patrick Gallagher trained Irish bred mare had four wins, a second and three third place finishes at home before shipping to North America. She has six starts on American soil and has three wins and a second in her last five. She was a stakes winner at home; she won the listed Kathryn Crosby Stakes at Del Mar in November and was most recently a very good second in the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes also at Del Mar November 30. Queen of The Sand has steadily improved since a seventh in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes in September and could be a factor Sunday. Mike Smith gets the call from post 5.
Rosalind - Chad Brown trained filly has placed in seven of 12 career starts but hadn't been great before a second last time out at this distance in the Grade 3 Suwannee River Stakes at Gulfstream February 7. She had a tenth October 17 in the Pin Oak Valley View Stakes in October, a ninth in the Grade 1 Belmont Oaks Invitational and a DNF in a Stakes in Britain. She did win the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes in a dead heat in April, 2014 and did record a third after rallying from 16 lengths back in the 2013 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies but hasn't looked like the same horse since. She hopes to build on a good effort last time out from gate 8 with Joel Rosario aboard.
Three Hearts - has 15 career starts for trainer Neil Drysdale with three wins, three seconds and four third place finishes. She enter in good form having posted a career best effort in November - a win in the Grade 3 Red Carpet Handicap at Del Mar and following that with a respectable third last time out in the Grade 3 Robert J. Frankel Stakes on this track December 27. She also had a close third in the Grade 3 Virginia Oaks in July. Three Hearts has been OK in her career, has a win, a second and two thirds in five starts at Santa Anita and will try to keep a current roll going with Tyler Baze guiding her from post 10.
Lady of Gold - H Graham Motion trainee is coming off a third in the minor Astra Stakes here January 18 after a fourth in the Grade 3 Robert J. Frankel Stakes in December and consecutive runner-up finishes - behind Three Hearts in the Grade 3 Red Carpet November 22 and the Grade 3 Maple Leaf Stakes at Woodbine November 1 - her graded stakes debut. She has just two wins in 17 career starts but has placed in three of her last four starts overall - all stakes races. Kent Desormeaux has been tabbed to ride as Lady of Gold looks to build on some momentum from gate 11.

Graham Motion trained mare made her 2014 debut June 24 and finished fourth in the Grade 3 Eatontown Stakes but bounced back with a nice win in the Grade 3 Violet Stakes at Monmouth Park August 23. She finished an OK third in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes on this track, was tenth in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf and finished 2014 off with a sixth in the Grade 3 Robert J. Frankel Stakes in December. Rusty Slipper has one start in 2015 - a third in the listed Megahertz Stakes here January 17. She has four wins (two stakes) and two third place finishes in 11 career starts, has yet to post victory at Santa Anita and has been a tad inconsistent lately. Aaron Gryder has the mount from the post 7.
Winning Rhythm - has 12 career starts with three wins, two seconds and two third place finishes and has failed to place in her last three starts - a fifth last time out in the Grade 2 Buena Vista Stakes followed a fourth in the listed Megahertz Stakes January 17 and a fifth in the Grade 3 Red Carpet Handicap in November. Before that was an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Santa Anita October 9 after another Allowance Optional Claiming score July 26. Winning Rhythm hasn't been great lately and looks for her first win in stakes company Sunday from post 2 with Victor Espinoza in the reins.
Hoop of Colour - Graham Motion trained filly has just five career starts with three wins and a second place finish. She has just one North American start -an Allowance Optional Claiming score here February 5 after two wins and a second place finish in Britain. She looks for her first stakes win Sunday and will have Drayden Van Dyke guiding her from post 3.
Elektrum - John Sadler Irish bred filly had two wins, two second and two thirds in 10 starts at home before shipping but finished fifth in her only stakes action - the Group 2 Premio Oaks d'Italia in May of last year. Her two starts in North America have been Allowance Optional Claiming races and she finished runner-up in both. She looks for her first stakes score and looks OK ahead of her North American stakes debut. Corey Nakatani gets the call from gate 6.
Indecise - Richard Mandella trained mare makes her graded stakes debut Sunday having recorded three wins, two seconds and three third place finishes in 11 career starts. She enters off a respectable second in the minor Wishing Well Stakes here February 8 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score January 18 - decent ahead of her step up in competition. Flavien Prat has been tabbed to ride Indecise from post 9 Sunday.
