Las Vegas, NV - Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario will be the scene of the Grade 1 Pattison Canadian International Stakes on Sunday, October 18. Horses three years old and upward will take to Woodbine's turf track and race 1 1/2 miles searching for the winner's share of the nice $1 million purse.
A field of 11 will line up in the Pattison Canadian International Stakes - race 9 on Woodbine's Sunday schedule. Post time is 5:42 PM. Here is a peek into the past performances of all 11 combatants for this lucrative Grade 1 stakes - one of Canada's richest thoroughbred races.
Second Step 3-1 - trained by Luca Cumani, Second Step won the 1 1/2 mile Group 1 Grosser Preis von Berlin August 9 at Hoppegarten. The four-year-old Irish-bred gelded son of 2003 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Dalakhani sports a career record of five wins in nine starts to go along with two seconds and a third place finish. He has three wins and a second place finish in his last five starts overall and is expected to be competitive again Sunday. Andrea Atzeni has the mount on the morning line favorite from gate 4.
Cannock Chase 7-2 - lightly raced entry has won four of nine career starts with three seconds and a third place finish - competitive virtually every time out. He makes his North American debut Sunday off win in the 1 1/2 mile Sakhee Godolphin Stakes at Newmarket on September 25 after a second and a seventh in his previous two starts. Cannock Chase hopes that his success at home translates this weekend. Ryan Moore will be in the saddle of this most intriguing morning line second choice from gate 2.
Sheikhzayedroad 6-1 - British bred gelding has 29 career starts with eight wins, four seconds and five third place finishes. He enters off a third in a stakes at Chester September 12 and five straight off-the-board finishes. He has one North American start and it was a good one - a win in the Grade 1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes in September, 2014 and he did have a second in the Group 2 Dubai City Of Gold Sponsored By Emirates Skycargo at Meydan in March so we know he can run. Sheikhzayedroad hopes that a return to the site of his last win produces a similar result. That said he enters in sketchy form but still goes off as the third betting choice. Martin Lane will be in the reins from post 3 Sunday.
Interpol 8-1 - Sid Attard trained colt has 13 career starts with five wins and two second place finishes. He enters on the heels of two straight impressive upset graded stakes scores on this track - the Grade 1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes at 10-1 odds September 13 and in the Grade 2 Sky Classic Stakes at 21-1 odds August 16 - both results on this track. That followed a fifth in his graded stakes debut - the Grade 2 Nijinsky Stakes on this track July 19 and two Allowance Optional Claiming scores in his previous three starts. Interpol has five wins in his last seven starts overall - scorching hot as we head into Sunday and hopes to keep the momentum going. Emma-Jayne Wilson will be in control of the intriguing fourth betting choice from gate 9.
Up With the Birds 10-1 - Canada's Sovereign Award 2013 Horse of the Year and Sovereign Award 2013 Champion 3 Year Old Colt has seven wins, three seconds and three third place finishes in 19 career starts including six stakes wins. He enters off consecutive close fourth place finishes - the Grade 2 Commonwealth Cupat Laurel Park September 19 and the Grade 1 Arlington Millions after consecutive thirds - in the Grade 3 Arlington Handicap in July and the Grade 2 Dixie Stakes in May. His last win came in July, 2014 in the Grade 2 Nijinsky Stakes on this track. He has been so-so lately and hopes to get back to his 2013 form. John Velazquez will be in the irons of the race's leading money winner from post 5 Sunday.

Danish Dynaformer 10-1 - has 10 career starts for Hall of Fame trainer Roger Attfield with four wins, a second and a third place finish. He enters off a disappointing sixth in the Grade 1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes here September 13 which followed a terrific win by an incredible 7 3/4 lengths in the final leg of the Canadian Triple Crown - the Breeders' Stakes at this distance on this track August 16. Before that was a sixth in the minor Prince of Wale Stakes, a good second in the minor Queen's Plate Trial Stakes June 14, an Allowance by 2 1/4 lengths in April and had a maiden score in February with a close third behind Shaman Ghost sandwiched in there in the Grade 3 Marine Stakes here May. Danish Dynaformer has four wins, a second and a third place finish in his last eight starts and has three wins in five starts on turf but has finished sixth in two of his last three starts overall. He is in slightly inconsistent form ahead of this weekend. Eurico Rosa Da Silva rides from gate 6.
Triple Threat 10-1 - Bill Mott French bred entry made his North American debut June 7 and won the Grade 2 Monmouth Stakes after 13 starts at home yielded three wins, two seconds and two third place finishes. He won the Group 2 Prix Eugene Adam-Grand Prix de Maisons-Laffitte in July, 2013 and did finish third in a Group 2 in April of last year at Longchamp. He was an Ok third last time out in the Grade 1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes here September 13 but before that was an eleventh place finish in the Arlington Million Stakes August 15. Triple Threat has been a tad tough to figure out but a win three starts back and a third last time out has him firmly on the radar. Joel Rosario has been tabbed to ride from post 7.
Habibi 10-1 - Dan Blacker New Zealand trained mare made her North American debut last June and finished eighth in the Grade 2 Royal Heroine Stakes and didn't look great after that before her last two starts - a second last time out behind Interpol in the Grade 1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes here September 13 followed a win in the minor Flaming Page Stakes on this track August 15 - both were contested at 1 1/2 miles. Before the win was an eighth in the Grade 3 Singspiel Stakes July 5, a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming in June and a fifth in the Grade 3 Santa Barbara Handicap in April. Habibi looks for her first graded stakes score and has been trending upward ahead of this weekend. Habibi will depart from the outside post 11 Sunday with Robby Albarado guiding her.
Kaigun 12-1 - 2014 winner of the Grade 2 Play the King Stakes Mark Casse trained gelding also finished second in two other Grade 1 stakes last year - the Manhattan Stakes in June and behind Wise Dan in the Maker's Mile in Keeneland. He has just four starts this year - a fourth last time out in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile followed a third in the Grade 2 Play the King Stakes here August 23, a third in an Allowance here July 31 and a fourth in the Grade 2 Arcadia Stakes at Santa Anita in January. He ended 2014 with a terrific win over Za Approval the Grade 2 Seabiscuit Handicap at Del Mar November 28 but also had a tenth in the Breeders' Cup Mile. Kaigun has three wins, a second and two third place finishes in nine starts at Woodbine and will be looking for his first win of 2015 Sunday. He leaves from gate 10 with Patrick Husbands aboard.
Power Ped 20-1 - made his graded stakes debut January 3 for trainer Neil Drysdale and finished a decent third behind Finnegans Wake and Patrioticandproud in the Grade 2 San Gabriel Stakes and followed that with a win in the minor Cotton Fitzsimmons Stakes at Turf Paradise January 17 and a good second February 7 in the Grade 2 San Marcos Stakes at Santa Anita. He has been OK since - a decent second last time out behind Da Big Hoss in the Grade 3 Kentucky Turf Cup September 14 followed a fourth place finish in the Grade 2 Del Mar Handicap August 22, a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming and a fourth in the Grade 1 Eddie Read Stakes July 18 - both results at Del Mar. He has placed in seven of his last nine starts overall and looks OK ahead of this weekend. Florent Geroux has been tabbed to ride from the rail.
Reporting Star 20-1 - Pat Parente pupil has placed in four of his last five starts overall - a fifth last time out in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile was his only poor result over that span. Before the Woodbine Mile was a career defining win at 15-1 odds in the Grade 2 Play the King Stakes here August 23, a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming here July 12, a second in the Florida Sunshine Millions Turf back in January and a second in the Grade 3 Tropical Turf Handicap at Gulfstream Park West in November. He also had a good second in the Grade 2 Sky Classic Stakes August 16 last year and a three race win streak - all Allowance races at Woodbine. He has placed in 17 of his last 19 starts overall and seven of nine graded stakes tries. Reporting Star looks for a strong bounce back after an uncharacteristic effort last time out. Luis Contreras will be in the saddle from gate 8 Saturday.
