Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes is on tap for Woodbine in Toronto, Ontario this Saturday, April 18. Fillies and mares four years old and upward will take to Woodbine's turf track and race six furlongs looking for the winner's share of the $150,000 purse.
A field of eight older females will line up in the Whimsical- race 8 on Woodbine's Saturday schedule. Post time is 4:38 PM. Here is a peek into the past performances of all eight combatants for this Grade 3 stakes.
Goldstryke Glory - won three straight races including two minor stakes races here last year before finishing fourth in her graded stakes debut - the 2014 edition of this race. She has certainly been up and down since - last time out was a fifth in the Grade 3 Ontario Fashion Stakes here in October after a sixth in the minor Smart and Fancy Stakes at Saratoga, a third in the Grade 3 Royal North Stakes on this track and an Allowance score here in July. Goldstryke Glory has five wins, three seconds and two third place finishes in 15 career starts and will be looking for her first graded stakes score from post 5 with Jesse Campbell guiding the 2-1 morning line favorite.
Executive Allure - has five wins and a second place finish in nine career starts for trainer Darwin Branch and enters this week on a two race win streak - an Allowance November 26 and the minor Jammed Lovely Stakes on this track November 8. She also won three straight races last summer and had a decent second in her graded stakes bow - the Grade 3 Ontario Colleen Stakes in August. Executive Allure has sprinkled in some somewhat disappointing efforts - a fifth four starts back in the Grade 3 Charles Town Oaks and a fourth three starts back in the minor Ruling Angel Stakes here in October. She has been very competitive in all but one career start and should be a factor Saturday. Eurico Rosa Da Silva rides the 3-1 morning line second choice from the outside post 8.
Skylander Girl - finished second in four straight races this past summer including the OLG Algoma Stakes in August, the minor Wonder Where Stakes two weeks earlier and the minor Ontario Damsel Stakes in July - all at Woodbine. She has been up and down since - a ninth last time out in the Grade 3 Suwannee River Stakes at Gulfstream followed a decent second in the Grade 2 Marshua's River Stakes in January and a sixth in the minor South Beach Stakes December 13. Other results include a third in the minor Jammed Lovely Stakes in November, an Allowance Optional Claiming score and a third in the Grade 2 Canadian Stakes in September - the last three at Woodbine. She won two minor stakes races in 2013 but looks for her first graded stakes score Saturday. Skylander Girl has 20 career starts with three wins six seconds two third place finishes and will start from gate 6 at 4-1 odds with Luis Contreras aboard.
Unspurned - Roger Attfield trained filly finished second in the Grade 3 Mazarine Stakes here in October, 2013 and has been inconsistent since. She has placed in four of her last five starts however - a trio of runner-up finishes (the Jammed Lovely Stakes in November, the Ruling Angel Stakes in October and the La Lorgnette Stakes in September) followed a sixth in the Grade 3 Ontario Colleen Stakes in August and a good win in the minor Bison City Stakes here in July. Unspurned has 11 career starts with three wins, four seconds and a third place finish and hopes for a first graded stakes score Saturday. Allen Garcia gets the mount from post 3 at 6-1 on the morning line.

Wild Catomine - has five career starts for trainer Mark Casse with two wins and a second place finish. She has finished fourth in her last two starts however - both minor stakes action on this track. Last time out was in the Eternal Search Stakes in August and before that was in the Bison City Stakes in July. She did win the minor Fury Stakes here last May and posted a second in the minor Woodbine Oaks in June - so we know that she can run. Wild Catomine will be looking to snap a mini-slump in her first race in eight months when she leaves from gate 2 with Gary Boulanger aboard the 8-1 morning line shot.
Sweater Weather - has placed in all nine career starts for trainer Robert Tiler - four wins, three seconds and two third place finishes. She enters having won two of her last three starts - both minor stakes races on this track. Last time out was a win in the La Lorgnette Stakes in September after a third in the minor OLG Algoma Stakes in August and a win in the Eternal Search Stakes four weeks earlier. Sweater Weather steps into graded stakes company for the first time Saturday having been very successful almost every time out. Patrick Husbands has been tabbed to keep the upward trend going at 8-1 odds from gate 4.
Silent Star - David Bell trained mare made her graded stakes debut November 16 and finished an OK fourth in the Grade 2 Bessarabian Stakes on this track. That result followed a third in the minor River Memories Stakes October 5 and a second in the minor Classy n' Smart Stakes September 28 - both coming on this track. She placed in eight of 10 starts last year - the best result coming in July - a win in the minor Victoriana Stakes here. Silent Star makes her 2015 debut Saturday in decent form - with Justin Stein in the saddle from the rail at 15-1 on the morning line.
More Than Bandeau - makes her stakes debut Saturday after 21 career starts, mostly Claiming races produced five wins, five seconds and a third place finish. She enters having placed in four straight races - two straight Claiming scores in October were followed by a pair of runner-up finishes in Allowance races in November. More Than Bandeau takes an enormous leap up in competition Saturday in decent form with Omar Moreno getting the call the longest shot in the field (20-1) from post 7.
