2016 Mother Goose Stakes Race Preview at Belmont Park

Rachel's Valentina 9-5 - has five career starts with two wins and two second place finishes. She enters on the heels of her worst effort to date - an uncharacteristic sixth as favorite in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks May 6. It followed consecutive runner up finishes - behind longshot Weep No More in the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes and behind Songbird in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. Before those results were a win in the Grade 1 Spinaway Stakes at Saratoga September 5 and a maiden score at first asking on that same track August 2. Rachel's Valentina had been impressive before last time out and will be in search of a strong bounce back after a good rest - from gate 6. John Velazquez has the mount on the obvious morning line favorite.

Lewis Bay 2-1 - Chad Brown trained filly has placed in all six career starts - three wins, two runner-ups and a third place finishes. Last time out was a respectable third in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks May 6 which followed a good win in the Grade 2 Gazelle Stakes at Aqueduct April 9, a second place finish behind Cathryn Sophia in the Grade 2 Davona Dale Stakes at Gulfstream in February, a win in the Grade 2 Demoiselle Stakes at Aqueduct in November and a maiden score in October. Lewis Bay has been in the mix every time out and is expected to be again Saturday. Irad Ortiz has been tabbed to ride the second betting choice from post 5.

Off the Tracks 3-1 - Todd Pletcher trained filly has five career starts - three wins, a second and a third place finish. She broke maiden at first asking at Gulfstream last June and went on to a terrific win in the Grade 3 Schuylerville Stakes at Saratoga in July. She returned from a seven month layoff February 21 and posted a good win by 4 1/2 lengths in the minor Margate Handicap February 21 and followed that with an OK third as favorite in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks April 2 and a decent second last time out in the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes on this track June 11. Off the Tracks has placed in all five starts and hopes to keep the impressive roll going from gate 2 Saturday with Jose Ortiz in the irons of the third choice.

Lightstream 5-1 - lightly raced Brian Lynch trained filly has three career starts and three impressive wins - all at seven furlongs. Last time out it was the minor Soaring Softly Stakes on this track May 21 after wins in the Grade 3 Beaumont Stakes at Keeneland April 17 and a maiden score by 2 1/4 lengths with a 103 Beyer Speed Figure at first asking. Lightstream hasn't been touched so far and will try to remain undefeated as she departs from the outside post 7 with Joel Rosario aboard at an intriguing 5-1.

Mo d'Amour 12-1 - Todd Pletcher trained filly has three wins and two second place finishes in eight career starts. She recorded a third place finish in the Grade 2 Gazelle Stakes at Aqueduct April 9 but has failed to place in two starts since - a fifth in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks May 6 was followed by an eighth last time out in the minor Wonder Again Stakes on this track June 5. She won the minor Busher Stakes February 27 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Laurel Park in February as well. Mo d'Amour has been a tad disappointing lately and will be looking for a major breakthrough from gate 4 Saturday. Manuel Franco has the mount.

Mom's On Strike 20-1 - Joe Sharp trained filly has three career starts with a win and a third place finish. She debuted with a third at Fair Grounds in March and broke maiden April 16 in her second career start. Last time out was a somewhat disappointing fifth in her stakes debut - the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico May 20. Mom's On Strike hopes to make a statement Saturday and record her first stakes score from post 3. Kendrick Carmouche gets the call.

Linda Mimi 30-1 - has three starts for trainer Gustavo Delgado with a win, a second and a third place finish - all MSW races. Last time out was that win - on this track June 2 after a second at Churchill Downs in May and a third in her debut in March. Linda Mimi has improved every time out but makes an enormous jump up in competition Saturday from the rail. Jose Lezcano rides.
