OffTrackBetting.com - The Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante Stakes comes our way this Saturday, September 3 from Del Mar racetrack in Del Mar Race Track, California. A group of two year olds will take to Del Mar's dirt track and race seven furlongs searching for the winner's share of the $300,000 purse.
A impressive group of seven juvenile fillies have been confirmed for the Del Mar Debutante - race 9 on Del Mar's Saturday card. Post time is 6:00 PM. Here is a look into the past performances of all seven combatants for this Grade 1 stakes.
Champagne Room 2-1 - has a win and a second place finish in two career starts for trainer Peter Eurton. Last time out was an uber-successful stakes debut - a win by 1 1/4 lengths in the Grade 2 Sorrento Stakes on this very track August 6. Her debut resulted in a second place finish here July 16. Champagne Room is the only stakes winner in the field and hopes to keep an impressive run going from gate 4 Saturday. Mario Gutierrez gets the call on the morning line favorite.
American Cleopatra 5-2 - highly regarded Bob Baffert trained filly (full sister to American Pharoah) has just one career start and it was a good one - a 5 1/2 furlong maiden score by two lengths on this track July 31. Her first start was a maiden score on this track July 16 - by 1 1/2 lengths over Champagne Room who won the Sorrento last time out. Morganite was impressive in her only start on this very track and hopes to build on that effort from gate 2 with Victor Espinoza aboard the co-third choice.
Noted and Quoted 7-2 - Bob Baffert trained filly finished fourth behind Morganite and Champagne Room in her debut - on this track July 16 and broke maiden last time out by a very impressive 9 1/2 lengths in her only other career start - on this track August 7. Miss Southern Miss 8-1 - Keith Desormeaux trained filly has placed in all three career starts - one win and two second place finishes. Last time out was a decent graded stakes debut - a second behind Champagne Room in the Grade 2 Sorrento Stakes on this track August 6. Before that was a second in her stakes debut - the minor Landulace Stakes at Santa Anita July 9 and a maiden score by 3 1/4 lengths at first asking - at Santa Anita June 9. Miss Southern Miss has been competitive in every career start so far and will be after a career-defining win from the rail Saturday. Kent Desormeaux rides.
Union Strike 15-1 - Shelbe Ruis trained filly will hit the track for the second time looking for her first win - the first was a second place finish in a MSW on this track July 31. Union Strike was OK in her only start and looks to improve from post 7 Saturday. Martin Garcia gets the call.
Holy Mosey 30-1 - has four career starts for trainer Molly Pearson with a win and a third place finish. She makes her stakes debut Saturday off a Maiden Claiming score on this track August 4 after a sixth and a fourth respectively in a pair of MSW races early this summer.
