2016 Hollywood Turf Cup Entries

Ashleyluvssugar - has 18 career starts for trainer Peter Eurton with eight wins, two seconds and three third place finishes. He enters off a decent fifth in the Breeders' Cup Turf November 5 which followed a nice two race win streak - the G2 John Henry Turf Championship October 2 and the G2 Del Mar Handicap August 20. Before that was a good second in the G2 Eddie Read Stakes July 17, an OK third in the minor Crystal Waters Stakes at Santa Anita June 11 and 10 months away from the track. He also had and a nice three race win streak in 2015 - in the G2 Charles Whittingham Stakes May 24, by 2 1/4 lengths in the G2 San Luis Rey Stakes March 21 (both at this distance) and an Allowance Optional Claiming score in February. Ashleyluvssugar has placed in seven of his last nine starts and looks to continue a pretty good string of results. Gary Stevens has been tabbed with accomplishing that goal on the 124 pound co-highweight from the outside post 7.

Texas Ryano - has 17 career starts for trainer Carla Gaines with four wins, three seconds and three third place finishes. He made his graded stakes debut last November and finished a disappointing eighth in this race after a fifth in an Allowance Optional Claiming October 30 and two straight wins - the minor King Pellinore Stakes September 27 and an Allowance Optional Claiming September 5. He has six starts in 2016 - a sixth last time out in the Breeders' Cup Turf followed a good second behind Ashleyluvssugar in the G2 John Henry Turf Championship October 2, a third behind Ashleyluvssugar in the G2 Del Mar Handicap August 20, a seventh in the G2 Eddie Read Stakes, a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming June 16 and a sixth in the G2 San Gabriel Stakes at Santa Anita in January. Texas Ryano has looked OK against lesser company and was decent in stakes company as well before last time out. He tries for a first graded stakes score and for a strong bounce back from gate 4 Friday. Joe Talamo rides.

Ralis - has 16 career starts for trainer Doug O'Neill with two wins and four second place finishes. He enters off a ninth in the Breeders' Cup Turf November 5 which followed a sixth in the G2 John Henry Turf Championship October 2, an OK second in the G2 Del Mar Derby September 4, an eighth in the G1 Belmont Derby Invitational at Belmont Park July 9 and consecutive runner-up finishes - the minor Rainbow Stakes June 18 and the minor Snow Chief Stakes May 28 - both at Santa Anita. He also posted a tenth in the G3 Pat Day Mile at Churchill Downs May 7, a fifth in the Spiral Stakes at Turfway Park in April, a tenth in the G2 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park March 19 and a fourteenth in last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile. He did have a good win in the G1 Hopeful Stakes last September 7 but has struggled in top company since. Ralis has been wildly inconsistent, has looked very good at times in his 16 starts but has failed in three of his last four starts overall. He looks for his first win in 14 months (11 races) Friday from the rail with Mario Gutierrez in the saddle.

Royal Albert Hall - British bred Doug O'Neill trained gelding has just two wins in 20 career starts to go along with six seconds and six third place finishes. He has placed in eight of his last 11 starts however - a third last time out in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Santa Anita October 14 followed a sixth in the G2 Charles Whittingham Memorial back in May, a third in the G2 Elkhorn Stakes April 23, an Allowance Optional Claiming score March 25 and a second in a similar race March 5. He also posted an ugly thirteenth in the G1 Hollywood Derby November 28, a third in the G2 Twilight Derby October 24 and a second in the G2 Del Mar Derby last September 6. Royal Albert Hall looks for his first stakes score Friday in so-so from - from gate 2 with Kent Desormeaux guiding him.

Flamboyant - French bred Peter Gallagher trained gelding has been up and down in his career but enters this week on a low - consecutive eighths including the G2 John Henry Turf Cup last time put at Santa Anita October 2 and the G2 Del Mar Handicap here in August. Before that was an OK third in the G3 Eddie Read Stakes on this track July 17 and a quality fifth in the Group 1 Dubai Turf at Meydan March 26 against some of the best turf horses on the planet. He won the G2 San Marcos Stakes in February and the G2 San Gabriel Stakes at 46-1 odds in January - both at Santa Anita as well. Flamboyant now has five wins, three seconds and five third place finishes in 23 career starts but has placed in just one of his last four overall. He hopes to channel his early 2016 form when he leaves from post 3 with Mike Smith in the irons.

Quick Casablanca - Chilean bred Ronald McAnally trainee was terrific at home placing in all 11 starts including a win in the Group 1 Asociacion Latinoamericana in 2012. He was OK once he arrived in North America - a win in the G3 Last Tycoon Stakes in April, 2014 and a second in the G2 San Juan Capistrano Stakes two months later being the best results. He failed to place in five starts in 2015 and has been typically inconsistent in 2016. Last time out was a fifth in the G2 Marathon Stakes at Santa Anita November 4 after a tenth in the G2 Del Mar Handicap August 20, a decent second on dirt in the G3 Cougar II Handicap here July 25, an ugly seventh place finish in the G2 Charles Whittingham Stakes at Santa Anita May 29 and a nice win in the G3 San Juan Capistrano April 10. Before that was a second in the G2 San Luis Rey Stakes March 13 and a third in the G2 San Marcos Stakes in February. Quick Casablanca has shown form in the past but has failed to place in three of his last four starts overall. Tyler Baze has been tabbed with righting the ship from post 5.

Power Foot - Neil Drysdale trained gelding has just four wins and six third place finishes in 29 career starts. He started 2015 with an Allowance Optional Claiming score (his last win) and went on to consecutive respectable third place finishes in graded stakes action. He has failed to place in his last five races ahead of this weekend - a fifth last time out in the G3 Kentucky Turf Cup Stakes September 10 followed a seventh in the G1 Del Mar Handicap August 20, a fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming here July 30, a fifth in the G2 San Luis Rey Stakes March 13 and an ugly seventh in the G2 San Marcos Stakes February 6. Power Foot hasn't been great and hopes to turn his fortunes around from gate 6 Saturday. Drayden Van Dyke gets the call.
