2016 Royal Delta Stakes Race Preview

Sandiva - Irish bred Group 3 winner in France - Todd Pletcher trained filly won the minor Tropical Park Oaks here to close out her 2014 campaign and won the Grade 3 Suwannee River Stakes at Gulfstream Park last February. She has been decent since. Last time out was a nice win in the Grade 3 Marshua's River Stakes on this track January 9 which followed an OK third in the Grade 3 My Charmer Handicap at Gulfstream Park West November 21, a disappointing fifth in the Grade 1 Just a Game Stakes at Belmont Park June 6, a third in the Grade 2 Churchill Distaff Turf Mile in May and a second in the Grade 2 Honey Fox Stakes in March - the last two results coming behind eventual Breeders' Cup Mile winner Tepin. Sandiva has placed in six of her last seven stars and off a win should be a confident entry for this one. Joel Rosario has been tabbed with getting Sandiva her second straight graded stakes score and her fourth win in five starts at Gulfstream - in her first start on dirt from post 5 Saturday.

Best Behavior - won a Starter Stakes on this track last December and went on to a respectable second in the minor Miami Shores Handicap here in January. She struggled after that - a fifth in the Grade 2 Inside Information Stakes here in March followed a tenth in the Grade 2 Barbara Fritchie Handicap in February. Best Behavior has regained her form lately - a nice win last time out in the Grade 3 Sugar Swirl Stakes on this track with a 103 Beyer Speed Figure December 26 followed a second in the Grade 3 Rampart Stakes here December 12, a win in an Allowance Optional Claiming in July, a second in the minor Barely Even Handicap in June, a third in the minor Sea Lily Handicap May 30 and a second in the minor Sunrise Stakes May 3 - all results on this track.
