He has three straight runner-up finishes in Claiming races before that. Sorryaboutnothing 4-1 - has two wins and one third place finish in 11 career starts for trainer Troy Taylor and failed to place in five straight races before a breakthrough win last time out in the Grade 3 British Columbia Derby on this track September 10. Results include a sixth in the Grade 3 Canadian Derby at Northlands Park August 20, a fifth in a Claiming race at Del Mar July 23 and consecutive sixths - both Allowance races earlier this year. Sorryaboutnothing has placed in just two of his last nine starts overall - not great but off his best effort to date could be a factor. Shooting Jacket 9-2 - finished third in this race in 2014 and fourth in 2015 and has been OK in the leadup to this year's edition. Last time out was a second in the minor S. W. Randall Plate Handicap here September 10 after a fourth in the minor Pacific Customs Brokers Classic Handicap August 1 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score here in July. Shooting Jacket also placed in his first four 2016 starts. He arrives in decent form and will be after his first graded stakes score from gate 4 Saturday. Denis Araujo will be in the irons.
Royal Warrior 5-1 - David Nicholson trained gelding makes his graded stakes debut Saturday having posted four wins, six seconds and three third place finishes in 26 career starts. He has looked good lately placing in five straight ahead of this weekend. Last time out was a win in the minor Speed to Spare Stakes at Northlands Park September 5 after a second in the minor Westerner Stakes on that track August 20 and two straight Allowance scores at Northlands Park to start his summer. Royal Warrior tries to make a statement Saturday and enters in decent form indeed. Rico Walcott is scheduled to ride from post 5.
Square Dancer 6-1 - finished second in this race last year for trainer Steve Henson after three straight wins on this track in the leadup (two minor stakes). He has been just OK since - a third last time out in the minor S.W. Randall Plate Handicap here September 10 followed a second in the minor Pacific Customs Brokers Classic Handicap also here August 1 and off-the-board finishes in two other minor stakes races at Hastings early in the summer. Square Dancer looks for his first graded stakes score and hopes to replicate his summer/2015 form from the rail. Richard Harvey Hamel will be in the saddle.
Venetian Mask 10-1 - Mike Anderson trained gelding has five wins, two seconds and a third place finish in 19 career starts. He makes his graded stakes debut off a Claiming score here September 5, a fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track August 26 and a win and a second respectively in a pair of Claiming races this past summer on this track. Venetian Mask steps up in decent form and will have Jeffery Burmingham in the irons from post 3.
