2016 Rood & Riddle Dowager Stakes Race Preview at Keeneland Race Course

Elektrum 3-1 - Irish bred John Sadler trained mare won the 2015 G2 John C. Mabee Stakes at Del Mar August 8, 2015 and went on to a second in the G1 Rodeo Drive Stakes at Santa Anita September 26. She had been OK lately before and eighth last time out in the G1 Rodeo Drive Stake at Santa Anita October 1 - three straight third place finishes including the 2016 John C. Mabee Stakes at Del Mar September 4, the minor Osunitas Stakes on that track August 7 and the G1 Gamely Stakes here May 30. She also had a disappointing seventh in the G2 Royal Heroine May 5 and a runner-up finish as 5-2 favorite in the G3 Red Carpet Handicap at Del Mar November 21. Elektrum has four wins, six seconds and five third place finishes in 23 career starts, has placed in four straight graded stakes races but looks for her first win in 14 months. Drayden Van Dyke has been tabbed to ride the tepid morning line favorite from gate 2.

Robillard 9-2 - has 11 career starts for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin with four wins, a second and a third place finish. She enters off an OK second in the minor Lady Baltimore Stakes at Laurel Park September 10, a sixth in the minor Fasig-Tipton De La Rose Stakes at Saratoga August 6, an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Belmont Park in June and an OK third in the G2 Sheepshead Bay Stakes on that track in May. She failed to hit the board in her other two career graded stakes starts. Robillard has placed in three of her last four starts overall and chases her first stakes score from gate 6 Sunday with Ricardo Santana guiding the second betting choice.

Paige 8-1 - has three wins, three seconds and three third place finishes in 13 career starts for trainer Christophe Clement - her best result was a third in the G1 Darley Alcibiades in October, 2014. Last time out was a respectable second in the minor Kentucky Downs Ladies Marathon September 15 after an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Suffolk Downs August 7 and a fifth in a similar race at Belmont Park in July. Paige posted a seventh in her only other graded stakes start - in the G3 Iowa Oaks in June, 2015. She has been OK lately and will be looking for her first takes score from gate 4 Sunday. James Graham gets the call.

Darling Duchess 8-1 - has 13 career starts for trainer Michael Maker with three wins, a second and two third place finishes. Last time out was an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Belmont Park October 5 after consecutive thirds at Saratoga - the last being an Allowance Optional Claiming September 1. Her only stakes start resulted in a thirteenth place finish in the G1 Belmont Oaks Invitational in July, 2015. Darling Duchess has been OK against lesser company and hopes that success translates Sunday. Florent Geroux gets the call from post 7.

Notte d'Oro 8-1 - Christophe Clement trained mare has five wins, four seconds and a third place finish in 21 career starts. Last time out was an OK third in the minor West Virginia Senate President's Cup at Mountaineer August 6 after she failed to place in two minor stakes races at Belmont Park this past summer. She did win the minor Melanie Frances Stakes at Arlington a year ago but has failed to hit the board in her three career graded stakes starts. Julien Leparoux will be in the saddle hoping for a breakthrough for Notte d'Oro from gate 10.

Rachel Wall 8-1 - Graham Motion trained filly has three wins, three seconds and a third place finish in 11 career starts. She has placed in her last three starts ahead of this weekend - an Allowance Optional Claiming score last time out at Saratoga September 1 followed consecutive runner-up finishes in similar races this past summer. Her best career result came in July, 2015 - a runner-up finish in the minor Little Silver Stakes at Monmouth Park. Rachel Wall Steps up in decent form and will be searching for her first stakes score from gate 12. Trevor McCarthy has the mount.

Lots o' Lex 10-1 - finished third in the 2015 G3 Endeavour Stakes at Tampa Bay and has been up-and-down since. Last time out was a good win in the minor One Dreamer Stakes at Kentucky Downs September 10 which followed a thirteenth in the G1 Beverly D. Stakes at Arlington August 13, a year away from the track, an OK second in the minor Stickney Stakes at Hawthorne in October, 2015 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score. Lots o' Lex arrives off a career best effort and has placed in three of her last four starts overall. She shoots for a first graded stakes score from gate 8 Sunday with Channing Hill in the reins.

Oakley Girl 12-1 - British bred Brenden Walsh trained filly has three wins, two seconds and five third place finishes in 16 career starts. She has just one North American start - a third right behind Paige in the minor Kentucky Downs Ladies Marathon September 15. She placed in six of her last eight starts at home as well - the best of which was a second in the minor Conqueror Stakes at Goodwood in April. Oakley Girl looks for her first stakes/group score and her first win overall since January when she leaves from the outside post 13 with Robby Albarado in the irons.

Apple Betty 10-1 - Irish bred Jean-Claude Rouget trained filly has three wins and three thirds in eight career starts. She won a minor stakes race at Toulouse in April and has been decent since. Last time out was a fourth in a G2 race at Baden Baden Germany which followed a pair of thirds in G3 races in France - the last coming in the Morocco Cup in July. Apple Betty looked OK in Europe and hopes her North American debut will produce a career-defining win. Rafael Manuel Hernandez will be in the reins from post 5 Sunday hoping to accomplish that goal.

Celestial Insight 20-1 - Wesley Ward trained filly has two wins in six career starts. She makes her graded stakes debut Sunday having failed to place in her last four starts overall. Last time out was a fourth in the minor Dueling Ground Oaks at Kentucky Downs September 11 after another pair of fourths in Allowance races and a seventh in an Allowance at Churchill Downs in May. Celestial Insight steps up in less-than-spectacular form and will leave from the rail with Albin Jiminez aboard.

Belle de Nuit 20-1 - Argentinean bred Mark Casse trained mare has three wins and two third place finishes in 13 career starts. She makes her graded stakes debut having won two of her last three starts - an Allowance Optional Claiming at Woodbine September 9 and an Allowance on that track in July - with an eighth in the minor Flaming Page Stakes on that track sandwiched in there. Belle de Nuit steps up in so-so form and will leave from post 11 with Chris Landeros aboard.

Freethinker 20-1 - Victoria Oliver trained mare has just two wins, two seconds and four third place finishes in 21 career starts. She makes her stakes debut Sunday off an Allowance score at Kentucky Downs September 8 which followed consecutive off-the-board finishes in a pair of Allowance races in the summer. She tries for her second straight win Sunday and second win in nearly two years from post 3. Sophia Doyle rides.

Swear by It 20-1 - Nick Esler trained mare has two wins and four third place finishes in 11 career starts. She made her graded stakes debut in July and finished an OK third in the G3 Robert G. Dick Memorial at Delaware Park but has failed to place in three starts since. Last time out was a fifth in the minor John Hettinger Stakes at Belmont Park September 25 which followed a sixth and a seventh respectively in a pair of Allowance races at Saratoga. Swear by It will be after her first stakes win and enters in less-than-spectacular form. Corey Lanerie has been tabbed with changing her fortunes around from post 9.
