2016 Bessarabian Stakes Preview, Entries & Odds

OffTrackBetting.com - Woodbine Racetrack in beautiful Toronto, Ontario will play host to the G2 Bessarabian Stakes on Saturday, November 19. A group of fillies and mares three years old and upward will take to Woodbine's All Weather Track and race seven furlongs for the winner's share of the $200,000 purse.

A field of eight will take to the track in the Bessarabian Stakes - race 8 on Woodbine's Saturday card. Post time is 4:00 PM. Let's take a peek into the past performances of all eight entries for this intriguing G2 stakes.

2016 Bessarabian Stakes Entries at Woodbine Racetrack

Midnight Miley 2-1 - Julia Carey trained filly has six wins, a second and a third place finish in 16 career starts. She won the minor La Lorgnette Stakes here in September, 2015 and went on to post an Allowance score on this track last October 14 and a ninth in her graded stakes debut - the Grade 3 Maple Leaf Stakes here October 31 of last year. She has just four starts since - a disappointing sixth last time out in the G2 Canadian Stakes here September 17 followed a nice win in the G3 Seaway Stakes on this track August 27, a terrific front running score by four lengths at 27-1 odds in the G3 Ontario Matron Stakes with a 96 Beyer Speed Figure here July 17 and a third in the minor Sweet Briar Stakes here June 4. Midnight Miley has placed in five of her last seven starts overall, has won two of her last three graded stakes races and will be out to avenge an uncharacteristic effort last time out. Rafael Manuel Hernandez has been tabbed to ride the morning line favorite from the outside gate 8.

Southern Ring 5-2 - impressive Malcolm Pierce trained filly has four wins and a second place finish in six career starts - all on this track. Last time out was a career-best effort - a win in the G3 Ontario Fashion Stakes October 16 which followed a career-worst fourth in the minor Zadacarta Stakes July 1 and three straight wins - the best of which coming in the minor Ruling Angel Stakes in October, 2015. Southern Ring has been a factor every time out and hopes to be again Saturday from post 3. Eurico Rosa Da Silva gets the call on the second betting choice.

River Maid 7-2 - Robert Tiller trained filly has placed in 11 of 13 career starts - six wins, three seconds and two third place finishes - all at Woodbine. She enters off an OK third behind Southern Ring in the G3 Ontario Fashion Stakes October 16, a second in the minor Kenora Stakes August 31, a fifth in the G3 Royal North Stakes July 31 and four straight wins including the minor Ballade Stakes June 4. River Maid and been competitive every time out and hopes for her first graded stakes score from gate 4. Gary Boulanger has the mount on the morning line third choice.

Minks Aprise 6-1 - has five wins, a second and a third place finish in 15 career starts for trainer Michael Dickinson. She made her graded stakes debut in April and finished an OK fourth in the G2 Great Lady M Stakes at Los Alamitos. It followed a win by 2 1/4 lengths in the minor Camilla Urso Stakes at Golden Gate March 19, a sixth in the minor Wishing Well Stakes at Santa Anita in January and an Allowance Optional Claiming score in December at Golden Gate. Mikes Aprise has been just OK lately - a fourth last time out in the G3 Maple Leaf Stakes here November 5 followed a good win in the minor H.B.P.A Stakes at Presque Isle Downs October 6, a third in the minor Steve Pini Memorial at Suffolk Downs September 3, a seventh in the G3 Ontario Matron Stakes on this track in July and a fourth in the G3 Chicago Handicap at Arlington June 25. She has failed to place in five of her last seven starts overall and hopes to get back to her early-2016 form. Minks Aprise chases her first graded stakes score from post 5 with Patrick Husbands guiding her.

Regia Marina 8-1 - Eoin Harty trained filly has hit the board in 11 of 15 career starts. She made her stakes debut two starts back and finished a respectable third in the G3 Seaway Stakes at Woodbine August 27 and followed that with a disappointing sixth in the G2 Presque Isle Downs Masters September 19. Before that was a two race win streak - an Allowance at Presque Isle Downs July 17 and another Allowance at Arlington June 17, a fourth and a sixth respectively in a pair of Allowance races at Aqueduct. Regia Marina arrives in decent form and looks for her first stakes score. A yet-to-be-determined jockey will be aboard from the rail Saturday.

Calling Rhy Rhy 12-1 - has 10 career starts for trainer Roger Attfield with four wins (two minor stakes) and two third place finishes - all on this track. She enters off a third in the minor Carotene Stakes, a fifth in the G3 Ontario Colleen Stakes September 24, a win in the minor Jammed Lovely Stakes September 4, a third in the minor Duchess Stakes in August and another win in the minor Ontario Damsel Stakes July 16. Calling Rhy Rhy has placed in six of her last seven starts ahead of this weekend and will be after her first graded stakes score from gate 2 with Jesse Campbell in the irons.

Lilly's Goldie 15-1 - Nicholas Gonzalez trained mare has four wins, a second and a third place finish in 10 career starts. She makes her stakes debut Saturday on a nice two race win streak - an Allowance Optional Claiming last time out October 28 and an Allowance September 25 - both at Woodbine. Lilly's Goldie has placed in six of her last seven starts ahead of this weekend and off two straight wins looks ready for her step up in competition. Emma-Jayne Wilson has been tabbed to ride from gate 6.

Top Decile 20-1 - Daniel Vella trained mare was terrific at the start of her career - a win at first asking in August, 2014 was followed by a second in the G1 Darley Alcibiades at Keeneland in October, 2014 and a good second in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. She hasn't been great in limited action since - a decent Allowance score last time out on this track October 15 followed a seventh in a similar race June 11, 10 months away, a tenth in an Allowance in August, 2015 another seven months away and a sixth in the minor Silverbulletday Stakes in January, 2015. Top Decile has shown form in the past and hopes to channel her 2014 form when she leaves from post 7 with Alan Garcia in the reins.
