2017 El Camino Real Derby Entries at Golden Gate Fields

Sheer Flattery 7-5 - Jerry Hollendorfer trained colt has a win, a second and a third place finish in his five career starts. He made his stakes debut last time out and finished an OK third in the G3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes at Santa Anita February 4 after finally breaking maiden at Santa Anita December 31. Before that was a fifth, a second behind the terrific Mastery, and a fourth respectively in a trio of MSW races to start his career. Sheer Flattery has been a tad tough to figure out but has looked respectable in his last two starts overall. Frank Alvarado has been tabbed to ride the morning line favorite from post 5.

Ann Arbor Eddie 2-1 - impressive Doug O'Neill trained gelding has three wins and a third place finish in his four career starts. He arrives on a nice two race win streak over California-breds - the restricted California Cup Derby last time out at Santa Anita January 28 and the restricted King Glorious Stakes at Los Alamitos December 18 (both on dirt). Before that was a respectable third in the G3 Bob Hope Stakes at Del Mar November 19 and a maiden score at first asking. Ann Arbor Eddie has been a factor in every career start and hopes for a first graded stakes score from post 3. Mario Gutierrez will be in the saddle of the morning line second choice.

More Power to Him 6-1 - Faith Taylor trained colt has placed in four of six career starts - two wins, a second and a third place finish - all at Golden Gate. He makes his graded stakes debut off a decent second after leading for most of the way in the minor California Derby January 21 which followed an Allowance Optional Claiming score December 31, a third in the minor Gold Rush Stakes December 3 and a maiden score November 20. He failed to place in his first two career starts but has been in every race since. More Power to Him tries to maintain the upward trend when he leaves from gate 2 Saturday with Alejandro Gomez aboard.

Kona Dreams 8-1 - George Papaprodromou trained gelding has yet to post a win in four career starts but does have a second and a third place finish - all four starts have come in MSW races. Last time out was a sixth at Santa Anita January 16 after a fifth at Del Mar December 4, a third at Del Mar November 13 and a second in his debut - at Santa Anita in October. Kona Dreams looks for his first career win Saturday from the outside post 7 with Israel Ocampo in the irons.

Tribal Storm 8-1 - has two wins and a third place finish in three career starts for trainer Ed Moger and makes his graded stakes debut Saturday. Last time out was an OK third in the minor California Cup Derby at Santa Anita January 28 which followed an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Del Mar November 25 and a maiden score at first asking - on this track in October. Tribal Storm has been in every race so far and hopes to be again Saturday from gate 4. Abel Cedillo has the mount.

Colonel Samsen 10-1 - Eoin Harty trained gelding has eight career starts with two wins, a second and two third place finishes. He enters off an OK third in the minor California Derby on this track January 21 which followed a disappointing sixth in the G3 Sham Stakes at Santa Anita January 7 and a nice two race win streak - the minor Gold Rush Stakes on this track December 3 and a maiden score at Del Mar November 13. He failed to place in his previous two however - a tenth in the minor Zuma Beach Stakes October 10 followed a fourth in a MSW October 1 - both at Santa Anita. Colonel Samsen arrives in so-so form having placed in three of his last four starts (3 stakes) and will be out to make some noise from post 6. Ricardo Gonzalez gets the call.

Zakaroff 20-1 - Steven Specht trained gelding has five career starts with a win, a second and a third place finish - all on this track. He makes his graded stakes debut Saturday off a fifth in the minor California Derby January 21, a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming December 31 and a maiden score November 26. Zakaroff has been OK so far in his career and will be after a special effort Saturday from the rail. Kyle Frey rides.
