2017 Princess Rooney Stakes Entries at Gulfstream Park

Curlin's Approval

Has five wins and a second-place finish in her 10 career starts for trainer Martin Wolfson - her first four races came on this track. She made her graded stakes debut four starts back and finished an OK fourth in the G2 Raven Run Stakes at Keeneland October 22 and followed that with a respectable second in the G3 Rampart Stakes on this track December 17. She went on to two straight wins - by a dominant 2 1/2 length win in the G3 Hurricane Bertie Stakes here January 28 and in the G2 Royal Delta Stakes by an incredible six lengths on this track February 18.

Curlin's Approval hasn't looked great in her last two starts however - a seventh as 4-5 favorite last time out in the G3 Matron Stakes at Churchill Downs May 20 followed a fifth as favorite again in the G2 Inside Information Stakes here in March. Curlin's Approval had been on a serious upward trajectory before her last two disappointments, has three stakes wins on this track and hopes to rediscover that form from post 7. Luis Saez has the mount.

Distinta

Victor Barboza trained mare has 22 career starts with four wins, seven seconds and three third place finishes. She has placed in six straight races ahead of this weekend (all on this track) - a good win last time out in the G2 Inside Information Stakes March 18 followed an OK second in the minor White Pearl Stakes February 18, a decent third in the G3 Hurricane Bertie Stakes January 28, an Allowance Optional Claiming score January 1 and a third and a second respectively in a pair of Allowance Optional Claiming races to end 2016.

Distinta has three prior graded stakes starts - a seventh in the 2015 G3 Azalea Stakes, a seventh in the 2015 G2 Davona Dale Stakes and a sixth in the G2 Forward Gal Stakes a month prior to that. Distinta has certainly been trending upward ahead of this weekend and chases a second straight graded stakes score from gate 4 Saturday with Edgar Zayas guiding her from gate 4.

Dearest

Impressive Edgard Zerpa trained filly has five wins, a second and two third place finishes in her eight career starts. She enters off a slightly disappointing third in the G2 Inside Information Stakes on this track March 18 which followed a career-best effort - a win in the G3 Sugar Swirl Stakes here December 17 and a respectable second in the G2 Prioress Stakes at Saratoga September 4. Before that was a nice two race win streak - the minor Azalea Stakes over Curlin's Approval last July 2 and the minor Royal Palm Stakes June 4, 2016 - both on this track.

Dearest has been a factor in every career start, has won four of six races on this track and hopes to continue her role from post 3 Saturday. Emisael Jaramillo will be in the irons.

Lightstream

Brian Lynch trained filly has nine career starts and four impressive wins (all at seven furlongs), a second and two third place finishes. Last time out was a third in the G3 Bed o' Roses Invitational at Belmont Park June 9 which followed consecutive fifths - the G1 Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs May 6 and the G1 La Brea Stakes at Santa Anita in December.

Before that, Lightstream had a great win by 2 1/4 lengths over Curlin's Approval in the G2 Raven Run Stakes at Keeneland October 22, a respectable second in the G1 Test Stakes at Saratoga August and an OK third in the 2016 G1 Mother Goose Stakes July 2. In 2016, she also had wins in the minor Soaring Softly Stakes May 21, the G3 Beaumont Stakes at Keeneland April 17 and a maiden score by 2 1/4 lengths with a 104 Beyer Speed Figure at first asking. Lightstream tries to snap a three-race losing streak Saturday when she leaves from gate 8 with Javier Castellano guiding her.
