2017 Sycamore Stakes Entries at Keeneland Racecourse

Renown

Defending champions in this race - British bred Elizabeth Voss trained gelding has seven wins and two third-place finishes in 16 career starts. He enters off an OK third in the listed Laurel Turf Cup September 16 which followed a fifth in the minor John's Call Stakes at Saratoga August 23, a sixth in the minor Cape Henlopen Stakes at Delaware Park July 8 and an ugly twelfth in the G3 Belmont Gold Cup Invitational June 9. Before that was a terrific three race win streak - the minor Secretariat Stakes at Great Meadow May 6, the 2016 Sycamore Stakes and the minor Laurel Turf Cup September 10. He also had an OK third in the minor John's Call Stakes at Saratoga August 24, 2016 and another win in the 2016 Cape Henlopen Stakes at Delaware Park last July. Renown has shown some form in the past but has failed to place in three of his last four starts. He goes for the repeat win from gate 6 Thursday with Christopher DeCarlo in the saddle.

Big Bend

Thomas Proctor trained colt has 10 career starts with three wins, a second and a third-place finish. He arrives on a good two-race win streak - the listed Dueling Grounds Derby at Kentucky Downs September 10 and an Allowance Optional Claiming at Delaware Park July 13. He failed to place in two of his previous three starts. Big Bend makes his graded stakes debut in career-best form and hopes to take the next step from post 11. Drayden Van Dykes rides.

Canessar

Has placed in eight of 11 career starts for trainer Arnaud Delacour with six wins, a second and a third-place finish. He makes his graded stakes debut Thursday off a nice win in his North American debut - ahead of Renown in the listed Laurel Turf Cup September 16, which followed an eighth in his last start at home in France - the Group 2 Prix Maurice de Nieuil in July and two straight wins - one stakes score in June. Canessar has placed in four of his last six starts overall including his only start in North American and will try to build off that effort in his graded stakes bow from post 3. Feargal Lynch rides.

Some in Tieme

Brazilian bred Kenneth McPeek trainee has 10 career starts with four wins, two seconds and a third-place finish. He made his North American debut February 5 and finished sixth in an Allowance Optional Claiming and followed that with a tenth in the G2 San Luis Rey Stakes at Santa Anita in March. He has been better in two starts since - last time out was a good win in the G3 Louisville Handicap at Churchill Downs May 20 after a second in an Allowance on this track in April. His last start at home was a terrific win in the Group 1 Longines Gran Premio Latinoamericano in March, 2016 which followed a second in a stakes last January of that year and another Group 1 score in September, 2015 - the Linneo de Paula Machado - Grande Criterium. Some in Tieme was superb in limited action at home and has been trending upward again. He shoots for his second straight graded stakes score Thursday in his first start in five months - from gate 2 with Robby Albarado aboard.

Final Copy

Roger Attfield trained gelding has three wins and a second-place finish. He made his graded stakes debut last time out and finished an OK fourth in the G3 Commonwealth Derby at Laurel Park September 30 after a second in the minor Breeders' Stakes at Woodbine August 30 and three straight wins - the best of which coming in the listed Toronto Cup Stakes at Woodbine July 23. Final Copy has hit the board in four of his last five starts and tries to build on an OK effort last time out from the rail. Corie Lanerie has been tabbed to ride.

Majestic Pride

McLean Robertson trainee has hit the board in 17 of 22 career starts - nine wins, four seconds and four third-place finishes. He won four straight races last summer including the minor Brooks Fields Stake and minor John Built Stakes at Canterbury Park and has been decent against lesser company since. Last time out was his worst effort in a while - a sixth in the 2017 Brooks fields Stakes August 26 which followed two straight Allowance Optional Claiming scores at Canterbury Park in the summer and a second in the minor Mystic Lake Mile on that track in June. He has six wins and two runner-up finishes in his last nine starts overall - pretty good, but will be after a strong bounce back Thursday. He steps into graded stakes company for the first time with Alex Canchari guiding him from post 7.

Infinite Wisdom

Has four wins, six seconds and three third-place finishes in 17 career starts for trainer Brian Lynch. He has been decent lately - a second last time out behind Canessar in the listed Laurel Turf Cup September 16 followed a nice win in the minor John's Call Stakes at Saratoga August 23 and consecutive seconds in Allowance Optional Claiming races this past summer. His only graded stakes action resulted in a sixth in the G3 Oceanport Stakes at Monmouth Park in July, 2016. Infinite Wisdom shoots for a first graded stakes score Thursday and enters in pretty good form. Channing Hill has the mount from post 9.

Tasit

Has only two wins in 112 career starts for trainer Michael Matz to go along with one second and two third-place finishes. He arrives off a fifth in his stakes debut - the minor Alphabet Soup Stakes at Parx September 23 after a third and a pair of fifths in a trio of Allowance Optional Claiming races this past summer. He did win an Allowance race on this track in April but has mostly been underwhelming since. He steps up in so-so form and will have Julien Leparoux in the reins from gate 4.

Tobias

Has just one win in 37 career starts for trainer Rafael Fernandez along with four seconds and five third-place finishes. He has placed in just one of his last nine starts ahead of this weekend - a seventh last time out on this track October 14 followed a tenth in a similar race on this track October 6. Before that was a fourth in the G3 American St. Leger Stakes at Arlington April 12, a seventh and an eighth in Allowance races this past summer and a fifth in the minor H. Allen Jerkens Stakes at Gulfstream Park in December. Tobias hasn't been all that impressive in his career and will likely be in over his head in this one from post 5. Sophie Doyle has been tabbed to ride.

Hardest Core

Won the G1 Arlington Millions in 2014 during a streak of four straight wins and went on to an eighth in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Turf. He has just four starts since and hasn't been great. Last time out was a sixth in his only 2017 start - an Allowance Optional Claiming at Woodbine September 23. Before that was an OK second in the 2016 G3 Singspiel Stakes in July, 2016 an eighth in an Allowance Optional Claiming in June, 2016 and a sixth in the 2015 G1 Man o' War Stakes. Hardest Core looks to regain his 2014 form in just his second start in 15 months - from gate 8 with Emma-Jayne Wilson scheduled to ride.

Manitoulin

Has four wins, three seconds and a third-place finish in 15 career starts for trainer James Toner. He enters off an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Belmont Park September 20 after a second in a similar race at Saratoga August 19 and a fourth in his only graded stakes action to date - the G3 Arlington Handicap July 8. Before that were two Allowance score - one coming on this track April 27. Manitoulin has been decent against lesser company but has yet to record a stakes score. Jockey Florent Geroux will try to change all of that from the outside post 13 Thursday.

Flashy Chelsey

Has just five wins in 29 career starts to go along with six second and four third-place finishes. He arrives off a sixth in the listed Remington Green Stakes September 24 which followed a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Kentucky Downs September 9, a fifth in the minor Cliff Guillams Handicap August 13 and a sixth in his only graded stakes action to date - the G3 Stars and Stripes Stakes at Arlington July 8. He has placed in just one of his last four starts and hopes for a first stakes score Thursday from gate 10. Jose Ortiz gets the call.

Nessy

Ian Wilkes trained gelding has two wins, four seconds and five third-place finishes in his 17 career starts. He enters off a somewhat disappointing seventh in the G3 Kentucky Turf Cup September 9 which followed an OK second in the minor John's Call Stakes at Saratoga August 23, a sixth in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Saratoga July 29, an Allowance score at Churchill Downs June 24 and a sixth in the G3 Louisville Handicap on that track May 20. Nessy has been just OK so far and will be after a first stakes win from gate 12 Thursday. Brian Joseph Hernandez Jr. will be in the irons.
