2017 Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes Entries at Presque Isle Downs

Ami's Mesa 4-1

Has eight six career starts for trainer Josie Carroll with five wins and a second-place finish. She enters on an impressive three-race win streak - the G3 Seaway Stakes August 26, the G3 Ontario Matron Stakes July 22 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score June 30 - all at Woodbine. Before that was an ugly ninth in the minor South Beach Stakes at Gulfstream December 17, a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming here November 11 and a fifth in the G3 Sweetest Chant Stakes at Gulfstream in January, 2016. Ami's Mesa has been terrific lately and looks like a threat to take down her fourth straight win. Luis Contreras has the mount on the tepid morning line favorite from post 7.

Bar of Gold 9-2

Defending runner-up in this race won her first three career starts - all at Aqueduct for trainer John Kimmel and has been up and down in 19 starts since. She enters off good win in the minor Yaddo Stakes at Saratoga August 25 after a third in the minor De La Rose Stakes on that track August 5, a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Belmont Park June 14 and a seventh in the G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes on that track in June. Before that was an OK second in the G3 Ruffian May 13 and consecutive fourths in stakes action. He also posted a terrific 18 lengths win with a 117 Beyer Speed Figure in the minor Empire Distaff Handicap October 22 and a respectable third in the 2016 G2 Presque Isle Downs Masters. Other good results include three straight runner-up finishes in 2015 - the G2 Lexus Raven Run Stakes, the G2 Prioress Stakes at Saratoga and in the G1 Test Stakes at Saratoga. Bar of Gold now has six wins, five seconds and four third place finishes in 22 career starts and enters in decent form. Shockingly, she looks for her first ever graded stakes score with Irad Ortiz in the saddle of the second betting choice from the outside gate 12.

Ginger N Rye 6-1

Has five wins and six second-place finishes in 16 career starts for trainer Horacio DePaz. She enters on a nice two-race win streak - the listed Smart N Fancy Stakes last time out August 27 and an Allowance Optional Claiming July 23 - both at Saratoga. Before that was a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming in October and a fourth in the listed Lady Baltimore Stakes September 10 - both at Laurel Park. Her only graded stakes result was a seventh in the G3 Gallorette Stakes in May, 2016. Ginger N Rye arrives in career-best form and shoots for a third straight win from post 5. Ricardo Santana Jr gets the call on the co-third choice.

Indulgent 6-1

Has nine career starts for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin with three wins, two seconds and a third-place finishes. She finished an OK second in her graded stakes debut - the G3 Distaff Handicap at Aqueduct in April but hasn't been great in three starts since. Last time out was a third in the minor Shine Again Stakes at Saratoga August 2 after an eighth in the G3 Bed o' Roses Invitational Stakes at Belmont Park June 9 and a fifth in the G2 Ruffian Stakes on that track May 13. Indulgent tries for a first stakes win but arrives in less-than-spectacular form. Luis Saez is scheduled to ride the other morning line third choice from gate 8.

Code Warrior 8-1

Rachel Halden trained filly has placed in nine of 13 career starts - four wins, three seconds and two third place finishes. She enters off a fourth in the G3 Royal North Stakes at Woodbine July 29 after a career-best win in the G3 Hendrie Stakes on that rack June 4 and consecutive third place finishes - in the minor Ballade Stakes May 14 and the minor Camilla Urso Stakes at Golden Gate March 18. Before that were two straight runner-up finishes in Allowance races at Golden Gate in January. Her other two graded stakes results were a respectable runner-up finish in the G2 Santa Ynez Stakes in January, 2016 and a seventh in the 2016 Santa Ysabel Stakes in March. Code Warrior has placed in five of her last six starts ahead of this weekend and searches for a second graded stakes score in three starts. Anne Sanguinetti has the mount from post 9.

Clothes Fall Off 8-1

Has placed in 12 of 17 career starts for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin - five wins, six runner-ups and a third-place finish. Last time out was a fourth in the G2 Honorable Miss Handicap at Saratoga July 26 which followed a disappointing ninth in the G1 Madison Stakes at Keeneland April 8, a nice 4 1/4 length win in the minor Correction Stakes (for the second straight year) at Aqueduct March 18 and an OK third in the G2 Barbara Fritchie Stakes at Laurel Park - a race she placed second in 2015. She struggled before that - a fifth in the minor Interborough Stakes at Aqueduct January 22 followed nine months away and an eighth in the 2015 Madison Stakes. Clothes Fall Off has been OK but has failed to hit the board in her last two starts overall. Jockey Rajiv Maragh will try to change Clothes Fall Off's fortunes around and get her a first stakes win from gate 2 Monday.

Pretty Perfection 8-1

Kelly Breen trained mare has six wins, a second and three third-place finishes in 18 career starts. She makes her graded stakes debut Monday having failed to place in four of her last five starts. An eighth last time out in the listed Smart N Fancy Stakes at Saratoga August 27 followed a sixth in the minor Caress Stakes on that track July 24, a decent second in the listed Satin and Lace Stakes on this track June 18 and two straight off-the-board finishes in listed stakes races. She did post three straight wins to start 2017 however - the minor Captiva Island Stakes March 11, the minor Ladies' Turf Sprint Stakes January 28 and an Allowance Optional Claiming January 4 - all at Gulfstream. Pretty Perfection has shown form in the past and will seek to rediscover her early 2017 form from gate 4. Nik Juarez rides.

Minks Aprise 12-1

Has six wins, two seconds and two third place finishes in 19 career starts for trainer Roger Attfield. She made her graded stakes debut last April and finished an OK fourth in the G2 Great Lady M Stakes at Los Alamitos. It followed a win by 2 1/4 lengths in the minor Camilla Urso Stakes at Golden Gate March 19. Mikes Aprise has been up and down lately - a seventh last time out in the G3 Ontario Matron Stakes at Woodbine July 22 followed a win in the minor Trillium Stakes at Woodbine June 18, a respectable second in the G3 Hendrie Stakes on that track June 4 and a third in the G2 Bessarabian Stakes also at Woodbine back on November 19. Before that was a fourth in the G3 Maple Leaf Stakes November 5, a good win in the minor H.B.P.A Stakes here October 6 and a third in the minor Steve Pini Memorial at Suffolk Downs September 3. She has quietly placed in five of her last seven starts overall but will be after a strong bounce back Monday with Rafael Manuel Hernandez in the reins from post 3.

Tulsa Queen 15-1

Ryan Walsh trained filly has placed in 10 of 11 career starts - three wins, three seconds and four third-place finishes. Last time out was a respectable graded stakes debut - a third in the G3 Seaway Stakes here August 26 which followed a third in the minor Malvern Rose Stakes. Before that was a two-race win streak including the listed Duchess Stakes on this track July 15. She posted a win in the minor Mrs. Penny D. Paxson Memorial Stakes on this track a year ago as well. Tulsa Queen has been competitive every time out, knows this track well and enters in decent form. Willie Martinez has been tabbed to ride from the rail.

Candid Cathy 15-1

Jonathan Sheppard trained mare has six wins, two seconds and a third-place finish in 16 career starts. She makes her stakes debut in less-than-spectacular form having failed to place in her last three starts - a fourth in an Allowance here August 28, a sixth in the minor Power by Far Stakes at Parx July 22 and another sixth in the listed Satin and Lace Stakes on this track June 18. Before that were consecutive Allowance scores here during a span of seven starts in which she posted six wins and a second-place finish - all on this track. Candid Cathy looked great against lesser competition but has struggled in her recent steps up. Mario Pino will try to change all of that Monday from gate 6.

Carolina Shag 20-1

Susan Cooney trained mare has just three wins in 16 career starts to go along with five seconds and four third-place finishes. She steps into graded stakes company for the first time Monday off a ninth in the listed Smart N Fancy Stakes at Saratoga August 27, a third in the minor Caress Stakes July 24 (both at Saratoga) and a win, a second and a third respectively in a trio of Allowance Optional Claiming races. Carolina Shag has been just so-so in her career but will have to produce a career-best effort in order to contend. Sheldon Russell will be in the saddle from gate 10.

Cavalia 20-1

Has placed in 11 of 13 career starts for trainer Gerald Brooks - seven wins, a second and three third-place finishes. She steps into graded stakes company for the first time Monday on a tidy three-race win streak - an Allowance August 28, a Starter Optional Claiming August 17 and a Claiming July 23 - all on this track. She alternated third and wins in her four previous starts. Cavalia steps up in career-best form and based on her knowledge of this track could surprise. Luis Garcia rides the intriguing 20-1 shot from post 11.

Artesian 20-1

Also Eligible Entry - Frances McNeely trained filly has 16 career starts with four wins, four seconds and a third-place finish. Last time out was a second in an Allowance August 28 after another second in an Allowance Optional Claiming August 9 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score June 27 - all on this track. She failed to hit the board in her previous four starts including a sixth in the G3 My Charmer Handicap at Gulfstream Park West in November.

Lady Oak 30-1

Also Eligible Entry - Irish bred Glenn Wismer trained filly has six wins, three seconds and three third-place finishes in 17 career starts. She has placed in eight straight races ahead of this weekend (seven on this track) with five wins over that span - all in Allowance company. She has yet to start a stakes race and may get her chance to keep an impressive roll going.
