OffTrackBetting.com - The G3 Las Flores Stakes comes our way this Sunday, March 5 at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. A purse on $100,000 will be on the line for fillies and mares four years old and upward willing to dash six furlongs on Santa Anita's dirt track.
A short but quality field of five older females have been confirmed for the Las Flores Stakes - race 3 on Santa Anita's Sunday schedule. Post time is 1:30 PM. Let's take a peek into the past performances of all five combatants for this G3 stakes.
Constellation - has placed in seven of eight career starts for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer - five wins, a second and a third place finish. She finished third in the G1 Spinaway Stakes in September, 2015 - her second career starts and went on to a second in the G2 Matron Stakes at Belmont Park a month later. She has won four of five starts since - the best of which was the G1 La Brea Stakes at 12-1 odds on this track December 26. The other wins include the minor City of Phoenix Stakes at Turf Paradise November 12, the minor Ruthless Stakes four starts back January 17, 2016 and the minor Furlough Stakes in November, 2015. Constellation has been terrific the last 15 months and will try for her third straight stakes score (second straight graded stakes) when she leaves from the outside post 5 with Flavien Prat guiding her.
Watch This Cat - Richard Baltas trained mare has four wins, four seconds and a third place finish in 16 career starts. She enters on a three race win streak - the 6 1/2 furlong Las Cienegas Stakes (a race that was changed from a G3 after its move off turf) by an eye-opening 8 1/2 lengths last time out on this track January 7, an Allowance Optional Claiming November 4 and a Starter Allowance October 8 - also on this track. Before that was a second and a third respectively in a pair of Starter Allowance races and three off-the board finishes. Her only graded stakes start resulted in a fifth in the 2015 G3 Selene Stakes at Woodbine. Watch This Cat has been trending upward ahead of this weekend, has won her last three starts on this track and will be chasing her first graded stakes score from gate 2. Corey Nakatani rides.

Sensitively - Phil D'Amato trained mare has four wins and a runner-up finish in nine career starts. She made her graded stakes debut last time out and finished sixth in the G3 Rancho Bernardo Stakes at Del Mar - way back on August 17. That result followed an OK second in the minor Desert Stormer II Stakes at Santa Anita June 6 and three straight Allowance Optional Claiming scores on that track in the spring. Sensitively has been a tad up and down and will chase her first stakes score in her first action in nearly seven months. Tyler Baze has been tabbed with knocking off the rust from post 3.
Pretty N Cool - Bob Baffert trained filly has 10 career starts with four wins, a second and a third place finish. She makes her first start since September 2 where she finished sixth in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Del Mar - a result that followed a fourth in the G3 Rancho Bernardo Handicap on that track in August. Before that was a nice win in the minor C.E.R.F Stakes July 20, a six month layoff, a third in the G2 Santa Ynez Stakes in January and a disappointing fourth after setting the pace and tiring in the G1 Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos December 12. In 2015 she won the G2 Matron Stakes at Belmont Park October 18 had a game runner-up finish behind Breeders' Cup Juvenile Filly winner Songbird in the G1 Del Mar Debutante September 5, posted a win by 2 3/4 lengths as favorite in the G2 Sorrento Stakes at Del Mar August 12 and had a maiden score by 4 1/2 lengths on a sloppy track July 19. She was very good at the beginning of her career and has been just OK in her last six starts overall. Pretty N Cool tries for her first graded stakes win in 16 months in her first start in over five months. Martin Garcia has the mount from gate 4.
Ponder Lea - has placed in nine of 10 career starts for trainer Richard Baltas - three wins, three seconds and three third place finishes. She makes her graded stakes debut Sunday off a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming here February 16, a third in the minor Kalookan Queen Stakes on this track December 30 and consecutive thirds in Allowance races at the end of 2016. She has been decent against lesser competition and hopes for a breakthrough in her major step up - from the rail with Rafael Bejarano aboard.
Race 3 on Santa Anita's Sunday card with a Post Time of 4:30 PM.
