OffTrackBetting.com - The G2 Saratoga Special Stakes takes place this Sunday, August 13 at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York. Some of the best two-year olds in the land will line up on Saratoga's dirt track and dash 6 1/2 furlongs for the winner's portion of the $200,000 purse.
A field of nine juveniles will line up in the Saratoga Special - race 8 on Saratoga's Sunday card. Post time is 5:02 PM. Let's take a brief glance into the past performances of all nine entries for this G2 stakes.
Has a win and two second-place finishes in three career starts for trainer Steve Asmussen. He enters off a very respectful second on the G3 Bashford Manor Stakes at Churchill Downs June 30 which followed a maiden score in gate-to-wire fashion by eight lengths on that track May 25 and a second in a MSW at Keeneland in April. Copper Bullet has been a factor every time out, has looked good in works leading up to this weekend including a bullet five-furlong drill in 1:01.45 at Saratoga Aug. 4 and will chase a first stakes score from the outside post 9 Sunday. Irad Ortiz Jr. rides the morning line favorite.
Patrick Biancone trained filly has two career starts and two nice wins. Last time out was a successful step into stakes company - a win in the minor Kiss a Native Stakes July 1 after his maiden score at first asking June 1 - both results at Gulfstream Park. Diamond Oops has yet to be challenged so far and hopes to duplicate his two great starts with Luis Saez in the reins of the second betting choice from gate 8.

Highly regarded colt has just one career start for trainer Mark Casse and it was a good one - a maiden score after overcoming a poor start at 4 1/2 furlongs at Churchill Downs May 18. Mo Diddley looked awfully impressive in that race and hopes to continue the momentum from gate 2 Sunday. Javier Castellano has been tabbed to ride.
Todd Pletcher trained colt has a win and a third-place finish in his three career starts. Last time out was a slightly disappointing graded stakes debut - a fifth after leading at points in the G3 Sanford Stakes on this track July 22. He broke maiden in the race before that June 8 and was second in his debut May 12 - both results at Gulfstream Park. Bal Harbour has been OK in his career so far and will be out to avenge an underwhelming effort last time out when he leaves from the rail with John Velazquez aboard.
Will hit the track for the second time for trainer Kelly Breen after his first race produced a good maiden score - at Monmouth Park July 14. Vino tries to remain undefeated in his major step in competition when he departs from post 7 with Paco Lopez scheduled to ride.
Has just one career start for trainer Todd Pletcher resulting in a maiden score at Belmont Park May 18. He was impressive in that race and hopes to be again from gate 6 Sunday with Joel Rosario in the irons.
Has four career starts for trainer Michael Dilger and has placed in all - one win and three third-place finishes. He steps into stakes company for the first time Sunday having finally broken maiden last time out - at Delaware Park July 6 after three straight thirds at Belmont Park to start his career.
