Topping the hometown contingent is John Hazards Sacred Thunder who owns a Delaware Park record of two wins and three seconds from five starts including his maiden victory last year. In 2025, the son of Holy Boss has a second and two thirds in four starts all at Laurel Park.

In his latest, the Maryland-bred conditioned by Gary Capuano clipped heels and stumbled before finishing eighth in the Federcio Tesio on April 19. Previously, he ran second in the Private Terms on March 22, third in the Miracle Wood on Feb. 22, and third in the Spectacular Bid on Jan. 25. He has a career record of three wins, five seconds and three thirds from 13 starts with earnings of $213,360.

"He is a very solid horse," said trainer Gary Capuano. "He has had some tough breaks in many of his races. In the last one, we got lucky he did not go down, but he showed a ton of courage by gathering himself back up. He eventually got in a decent position, but it was just a little much to overcome. He needs a breakthrough race and this is not going to be an easy one, but there are not many opportunities for a horse like him, so we are going to take a shot at winning the Delaware Derby. He does not have a quick turn of foot, but he is a grinder. He is going to face some tough competition, so he is going to have to step up his game. I expect him to run his race and if he is good enough, that is great. It would be nice to just get a good clean trip to see what happens."

La Houligan, trained by Greg Compton, and Omaha Omaha, conditioned Michael Gorham, are also currently stabled at Delaware Park.

La Houligan (Mag Racing) just broke his maiden going a mile and a sixteenth at Churchill Downs is his last on May 8, but the son of War of Will was a late foal being born on May 12, so expect him to keep developing.

"When I bought him last year, we gave him about two months before I even brought him to the track," said trainer Greg Compton from his barn at Delaware Park. "He was a mid-May foal and he had just gone through the 2-year-old sale. We just wanted to give him some time to grow up physically. Going through a sale can be tough especially on a young horse and when we bought him, he had not actually reached his second birthday yet, so we gave him time and he is getting there. We stable at Oaklawn Park in the winter which might be the toughest place for a 3-year-old to break a maiden, so he has caught good company in pretty much every start. I expect him to run well. The last race really did not set up for him. He rated off a very slow pace and wore them down on the outside. He overcame a lot in that race and he ran well enough for us to take a shot at winning the first Delaware Derby ever."

After facing nine rivals in the G2 Wood Memorial at Aqueduct in his most recent on April 5, On Your Left Racing's Omaha Omaha has been rested for the race this Saturday. The Virginia-bred son of Audible opened his 2025 campaign with a second in the Jerome on Jan. 5 and a third in the Withers on Feb. 1 at Aqueduct. He followed with a third in the Virginia Derby at Colonial Downs on March 15.

"We freshened him a little bit after kind of a hard campaign earlier in the year," said trainer Michael Gorham from his barn at Delaware Park. "He is a tough horse and he has faced some very good ones in the division, so we are excited to take a shot at the Delaware Derby with him."
