The race for the 3-year-old filly championship will soon gain a little more clarity with three of the major players in the hunt for the title entered for the Grade 1, $1 million Cotillion Stakes at Parx Racing on Saturday September 20.
The Cotillion, co-featured on the blockbuster 15-race betPARX Pennsylvania Derby Day card, attracted a field of eight led by that trio of G1 winners in Scottish Lassie, La Cara, and Good Cheer.
Scottish Lassie, runaway winner of the G1 Coaching Club American Oaks July 19 at Saratoga Race Course, drew post one and was pegged as the 9-5 favorite on the morning line by Parx's director of racing and racing secretary David Osojnak.
The Cotillion goes as the 13th of 15 races Saturday with post time of 5:15 p.m. ET.

Godolphin's Good Cheer, who ran her record to 7-for-7 this season with a victory in the G1 Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs, drew post seven and is the 5-2 second choice on the morning line.
Trained by Brad Cox, Good Cheer comes into the Cotillion off a second in the G1 Alabama Stakes. Favored in all of her nine starts, the daughter of Medaglia d'Oro will be ridden again in the Cotillion by Luis Saez.
Tracy Farmer's homebred La Cara also hopes to keep her name in the mix for this year's Eclipse Award for champion 3-year-old filly. The winner of the G1 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland and G1 Acorn Stakes at Saratoga looks to rebound from a fourth in the Alabama in her most recent start for trainer Mark Casse.
A daughter of Street Sense, La Cara drew alongside Scottish Lassie in post two and will be ridden again by Dylan Davis as the 7-2 third choice on the morning line.
The Cotillion field also includes G3 Indiana Oaks winner and 8-1 co-fourth choice Clicquot for trainer Brendan Walsh and jockey Irad Ortiz Jr., G2 Charles Town Oaks winner and 8-1 co-fourth choice Indy Bay for Saffie Joseph Jr. and Tyler Gaffalione, and Cathryn Sophia Stakes winner and 10-1 fifth choice Dry Powder for Chad Summers and Antonio Fresu. Locally based longshots Not Too Late and Ourdaydreaminggirl complete the lineup.
The Pennsylvania Derby and Cotillion headline Saturday's card that also includes the $400,000, G2 Gallant Bob Stakes for 3-year-olds at six furlongs; the $300,000 Parx Dirt Mile Stakes for 3-year-olds and up; the G3, $200,000 Greenwood Cup for 3-year-olds and up at 1 1/2 miles; the $150,000 Parx Sprint Stakes for 4-year-olds and up at 6 1/2 furlongs; and the $150,000 Liberty Bell Stakes for 3-year-olds and up fillies and mares at 6 1/2 furlongs.
The weekend kicks off with a trio of stakes events on Friday's card - two $100,000 events for Pennsylvania-bred and sired 3-year-olds in the Prince Lucky Stakes and Imply Stakes, and the $100,000 Storm Cat Stakes for Pennsylvania-bred 3-year-olds and up.
Trainer Jorge Abreu, Scottish Lassie: “I don't like the one (post), but I will let (jockey Joel) Rosario ride his race. Hopefully we will get a clean break and a good position. That's it. We are going to leave it up to God, Rosario, and luck. On paper, it looks like Chad Summers' horse (Dry Powder) will be on the lead. La Cara will be on the lead. I don't have to tell Joel anything. She does not have to be on the lead. She could be forwardly placed; she can target horses. I feel comfortable going into the race.”
Trainer Mark Casse, La Cara: “We got the two (post) but the good news is the other one (Scottish Lassie) got the one. We are going to go to the lead; those will be my instructions (to jockey Dylan Davis). I don't know what the other filly (Scottish Lassie) will do who is inside of us. It could get very interesting early. (La Cara) likes to be on the lead and we are not going to take that away from her.”
Trainer Brendan Walsh, Clicquot: “She's done nothing wrong. She's won her last three, including the Indiana Oaks very impressively. She's been going through the year nice and quietly. This is obviously the first big test for her, and it will be a big test. There are some nice fillies in there, but I don't think she'll be out of place.”
