LAS VEGAS, NV - Two of the biggest races this weekend take place on opposite sides of the country. The big race on Saturday at Saratoga Race Course is the $250,000 Grade I Coaching Club American Oaks while Del Mar Race Track features the $300,000 Grade 1 Eddie Read Stakes. Here is a look at both of those races and what to expect in horse betting odds.
Coaching Club American Oaks Live on NBC A very competitive race is expected on Saturday in the $250,000 Coaching Club American Oaks at Saratoga that can be seen live on NBC television. Royal Delta is the 2-1 morning line favorite in horse wagering in the five horse field. Any of the five horses could come out on top as there is no real longshot in the race. Joyful Victory has the highest odds at 6-1, but she is a horse who was the favorite in the Kentucky Oaks and a big favorite in the Mother Goose. Bill Mott trains the favorite Royal Delta and he said it is anyone's race. "I guess it's a handicapper's dream; it looks like anybody could jump up on their day and win it," he said. Royal Delta has won three of her four starts including a win in the Black-Eyed Susan.

The other three horses in the race are also very talented, led by Kentucky Oaks winner Plum Pretty. Trainer Bob Baffert said the horse is ready for a big race. "She's doing really well now," Baffert said, "She worked the other day like her old self. She's sitting on a good race. When they tip you off, you better put them on a plane." Also in the field are Buster's Ready who won the Mother Goose and It's Tricky who won the Acorn at Belmont Park last month.
Eddie Read Stakes The first graded stakes race of the new Del Mar season is on Saturday with the $300,000 Eddie Read Stakes that will be run at 9 furlongs on the grass. The expected favorite in off-track betting is Caracortado but it is a competitive field that also features Celtic Princess, Smart Bid and Acclamation.
The race could be a three horse battle between Caracortado, Celtic Princess and Acclimation. Celtic Princess will try and run away from the boys and get the win in off track betting odds but it may not be easy if Smart Bid decides to run with her. Smart Bid always seems to be in the money so you can't throw him out. He has one win, two seconds and a third this year. The other horses in the field are Jeranimo, Goldwaki, Kid Edwards and Leroy's Dynameaux.
