Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino is a racetrack in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, just east of Opelousas. It has a one mile dirt track seven furlong turf track for thoroughbred flat racing and American quarter horse racing, the facility also provides close to 1,000 horse stalls.
The original track opened on April 28, 1966 at Carencro, Louisiana and remained there until 2005 when it moved to Opelousas, Louisiana.
Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino is the first "Racino" built in the US from the ground up. It features a state-of-the-art facility with a new one mile oval. The entire property consists of nearly 750 acres. The track houses nearly 1,000 stalls on the backside and there is a pond in the infield. It has 7/8-mile turf track with a 1 1/8-mile chute. In November, the track hosts the LQHBA Breeders Futurity with a purse of $1,000,000 est.
In 2009, Evangeline Downs was ranked #6 out of 65 thoroughbred racetracks in North America by the Horseplayers Association of North America.
