Close Hatches Wins Ogden Phipps Handicap at Belmont Park
Las Vegas, NV - The $1 million Grade 1 Ogden Phipps Stakes was contested on Saturday, June 7 as part of a terrific Belmont Stakes undercard in Elmont, New York. It featured three of the top older females in the country. Third choice Close Hatches held off a late charge by 9-5 second choice Princess of Sylmar by a head in the field of six older females. It was Close Hatches third victory in three starts in 2014 and this one earned her an automatic bid into the Nov. 1 Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) at Santa Anita. Longshot Antipathy ran a huge race to finish third, just behind the top two, and ahead of the even money favorite Beholder. Belle Gallantey and Classic Point completed the order of finish.
