Las Vegas, NV - Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California will be the scene of the Grade 2 Santa Ynez Stakes this Saturday, January 2. A purse of $200,000 will be on the line when three year old fillies take to Santa Anita's dirt track and race 6.5 furlongs.
Eight three year old fillies will line up in the Santa Ynez Stakes - race 3 on Santa Anita's Saturday schedule. Post time is 1:30 PM. Here is a look into the past performances of all eight entries for this most interesting Grade 2 stakes.
Pretty N Cool - intriguing Bob Baffert trained filly has six career starts with three wins and a second place finish. Last time out was a disappointing fourth after setting the pace and tiring in the Grade 1 Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos December 12 which followed a career worst effort - a fifth after fading in the minor Desi Arnaz Stakes at Del Mar November 15. Those results followed a nice win in the Grade 2 Matron Stakes at Belmont Park October 18, a game runner-up finish behind Breeders' Cup Juvenile Filly winner Songbird in the Del Mar Debutante September 5, a win in impressive fashion - by 2 3/4 lengths as favorite in the Grade 2 Sorrento Stakes at Del Mar August 12 and a maiden score by 4 1/2 lengths on a sloppy track July 19. She had been a factor in every career start before her last two and will be out to avenge those uncharacteristic performances from post 7. Martin Garcia has been tabbed with righting the ship Saturday as Pretty N Cool cuts back to a more comfortable sprinting distance.
Treasuring - Bob Baffert trained filly has placed in four of five career starts - a win, a second and two third place finishes. Last time out was a disappointing fifth in the Grade 1 Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos December 12 after a second in the minor Desi Arnaz Stakes at Del Marr November 15 and a maiden score by an impressive 7 1/4 lengths at Los Alamitos September 19 in her third career start. Treasuring looks for her first stakes win and enters in decent form. Victor Espinoza has been tabbed to ride from gate 4.
Code Warrior - has three career starts and three wins for trainer Manuel Badilla. She makes her graded stakes debut Saturday off wins in the minor Golden Gate Debutante Stakes by 1 3/4 lengths November 28, the minor Golden Nugget Stakes against males November 7 and a MSW in August - all at Golden Gate. She hasn't been touched so far and hopes her success translates in her graded stakes debut. Anne Sanguinetti has the mount from gate 6 in Cod Warrior's dirt debut.
Decked Out - Keith Desormeaux trained colt won her debut on this track in May and has struggled since. Last time out was a fifth in the Grade 2 Pocahontas Stakes at Churchill Downs September 12 after a fourth in the Grade 2 Adirondack Stakes at Saratoga in August, a third in the Grade 3 Schuylerville Stakes in July and a second in the minor Astoria Stakes in June. Her results have gotten worse somehow in every outing - hopes are she can reverse that trend Saturday - from post 3 with Kent Desormeaux guiding her.

One Last Shot - will race for the sixth time for trainer Bob Baffert having posted a win and two runner-up finishes so far. One Last Shot hasn't been great lately but hopes to turn it around with Mike Smith in the irons from post 5.
My Dynamo - Jeff Bonde trained filly has two wins and a third place finish in four career starts. She enters off an OK third in the minor Golden Gate Debutante Stakes November 28, an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Del Mar November 12 and a disappointing ninth in the Grade 1 Del mar Debutante Stakes September 5. My Dynamo looks for her first stakes score and enters in so-so form. Fernando Hernandez Perez gets the call from the rail.
Forever Darling - has one win in three career starts for trainer Richard Baltas. She enters off an eighth place finish in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies which followed a maiden score and a fourth in her debut.
