2016 Selene Stakes Race Preview at Woodbine Racetrack

Thrilled 2-1 - Todd Pletcher trained filly has been good in her career - six starts with two wins and three runner-up finishes. Last time out was a good win in the minor Plum Pretty Stakes at Sunland Park March 20 after one of her seconds - in the Grade 2 Demoiselle Stakes at Aqueduct November 28. It followed her only poor effort to date - an eleventh on the biggest stage - the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, a second in the Grade 3 Miss Grillo Stakes September 27 and another runner-up finish in the minor P.G. Johnson Stakes September 3. Thrilled, outside of one bad effort has been competitive every time out and will be chasing her first graded stakes score from post 3. Alan Garcia will try to guide Thrilled to her second straight stakes win overall as the morning line favorite.

Gamble's Ghost 5-2 - Josie Carroll trained filly started her career in a big way - winning her debut, finishing second behind eventual Horse of the Year, Catch a Glimpse in the Grade 2 Natalma Stakes in September, winning the Grade 3 Mazarine Stakes in October and finishing second in the minor Princess Elizabeth Stakes in November. Last time out was a slight step back however - a sixth, just two lengths back in the Grade 3 Florida Oaks at Tampa Bay March 12. She looks for a strong bounce back on a track that she's never been worse than second - from the rail with Luis Contreras aboard the second betting choice.

Caren 3-1 - impressive Michael DePaulo trained filly has five wins, a second and a third place finish in eight career starts. She enters off a second in the minor Lady Angela Stakes here May 1 after an uncharacteristic sixth in the minor Any Limit Stakes at Gulfstream March 19 and consecutive minor stakes scores on this track in the winter - the Princess Elizabeth Stakes in November and the Victorian Queen Stakes in October. Before that was an OK third in her only graded stakes action - the Grade 2 Natalma Stakes and two more minor stakes wins on this track. Caren now has four stakes wins but will be after her first of the graded variety from gate 4 Sunday. Jesse Campbell rides the intriguing 3-1 shot.

Treasuring 6-1 - Josie Carroll trained filly has nine career starts with two wins, two seconds and two third place finishes. She arrives on the heels of her first stakes win - the minor Star Shoot Stakes on this track April 16, a fourth and a second respectively in a pair of Allowance Optional Claiming races at Santa Anita this past winter. She also had a fourth in the Grade 2 Santa Ynez Stakes in January and a fifth in the Grade 1 Starlet Stakes in December. Patrick Husbands gets the call as Treasuring looks for her second stakes score in a row - from post 7.

Niigon's Legacy 8-1 - has two wins, a second and a third place finish in four career starts for trainer Roger Attfield - all at Woodbine. She makes her graded stakes debut Sunday off an Allowance score April 22, a third in her only stakes action to date - behind Caren in the minor Princess Elizabeth Stakes in November and a maiden score in September. Niigon's Legacy steps up in good form and should contend Sunday. Jermaine Bridgmohan has been tabbed to ride from post 5.

Inconclusive 12-1 - has two wins and two second place finishes in nine career starts for trainer Richard Scherer. She enters off a decent second in the Grade 3 Bourbonette Oaks at Turfway Park April 2 and consecutive fourth place finishes - the minor Allen Black Cat LaCombe Memorial Overnight Stakes March 5 and the minor Joseph E. Spanky Broussard Overnight Stakes February 5 - both results at Fair Grounds. Before that was an Allowance Optional Claiming score on that track January 8, a seventh in the minor Rags to Riches Stakes at Churchill Downs in November and a sixth in the Grade 3 Jessamine Stakes at Keeneland in October. Inconclusive has been pretty inconsistent so far but hopes to build off a good effort from gate 2 Sunday. Emma-Jayne Wilson has the mount.

Luckbe Tanya 20-1 - has a win and a third place finish in three career starts for trainer Mark Casse. She makes her stakes debut off a career-worst effort - a seventh in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Oaklawn Park February 5 after a maiden score November 27 and a third in her debut - those results coming on this track. Luckbe Tanya hasn't been all that impressive so far and steps up with Eurico Rosa Da Silva in the irons.
