The Mile, the penultimate race on the Saturday card, is set to mark the return of 2011 Kentucky Derby winner ANIMAL KINGDOM, who has not started since winning an optional claimer at Gulfstream February 18. Wise Dan would likely go favored should he start, while OBVIOUSLY (IRE) warrants respect off three straight in California, including the course and distance Seco Mile (GII) October 6. LITTLE MIKE, who won the Arlington Million (GI) in August to gain an automatic Turf bid, is set to cut back in the Mile, while MR. COMMONS brings some stretch kick to a course he's won 3-of-6 over.
Europeans have enjoyed great success in the Mile and will likely be led by EXCELEBRATION (IRE) who gained an automatic berth into the race with his win in Deauville's Jacques le Marois (GI) in his last start August 12. A pair of fillies, MOONLIGHT CLOUD (GB), who won Prix de Moulin at Longchamp (GI) September 16 and ELUSIVE KATE, who won the Prix Rothschild (GI) at Deauville in July, would rate as contenders should they make the trip to Santa Anita.
