2013 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint Race Favorite Entries

Mizdirection - had five starts in 2012 for trainer Mike Puype with four wins and a second place finish culminating in a win in the 2012 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint over boys. The only blemish of 2012 was a second in the minor Great Lady M Stakes back in May. In her four starts of 2013 she had looked typically great with three wins - in the Grade 2 Monrovia Stakes January 6, in the Grade 2 Buena Vista Stakes by 2 1/4 lengths February 18 and a nice win in the Grade 3 Las Cienegas Stakes April 13 at Santa Anita. Last time out however was a disappointing fifth in the Grade 1 Just a Game Stakes at Belmont Park in June - the only time she hasn't placed in her 16 career start. She has 10 wins, four seconds and a third place finish so far, has not lost in five starts over that course and distance and is the tepid 4-1 favorite Saturday. Mizdirection will have Mike Smith in the saddle from post 12.

Chips All In - Jeff Mullins trained colt has two wins and two seconds in five starts this year - both wins in graded stakes action including the Grade 3 Eddie D last time out on this track and the Grade 3 San Simeon also here in April. His last two starts have resulted in wins on this track - hence the 5-1 co-second choice on the morning line. Chips All In will have Julien Leparoux in the reins Saturday from post 3.

Reneesgotzip - defending third place finisher in this race had nine starts last year with four wins, three second place finishes and a third - the most impressive result being a 7 3/4 length win at the Grade 2 Santa Ynez Stakes last January. Since that time Reneesgotzip has finished in the money eight more times. She finished 2012 with a second in the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes behind Book Review in December after a win in the minor Skillful Joy Stakes December 1, and her Breeders' Cup result against males. She has only two starts in 2013 - both wins. Her first in eight months was a good one - an Allowance score over Executiveprivilege at Del Mar July 18 and the second was a great win in the Grade 3 Rancho Bernardo August 18. Reneesgotzip is a contender every time she enters a race and is listed as the 5-1 co-second choice. Edwin Moldonado get the call from post 4.

Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint 2013 | Remaining Contenders

Caracortado - multiple graded stakes winner finished fifth in the 2012 BC Sprint and followed it with a nice win in the Grade 3 Daytona Stakes here in January 2012. He then endured 19 months away and recently returned to a fourth in the Grade 2 Eddie D here September 27. Rust will most certainly be an issue but when running right Caracortado is certainly a contender. He is 8-1 on the morning line and takes off from post 5 with the legendary Gary Stevens aboard.

Boat Trip - made his graded stakes debut last time out and finished a good second in the Grade 3 Eddie D here September 27 after a fourth in the minor Green Flash Handicap at Del Mar in August. He makes his second graded stakes start Saturday with four wins, a second and two third place finishes in 12 career starts. The Michael Pender trained colt is 8-1 on the morning line and will line up in post 6.

Capo Bastone - Todd Pletcher colt was a distant ninth in the Grade 3 Spiral Stakes March 23 after an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Gulfstream February 16 and a respectable third behind Shanghai Bobby in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile in November. He bounced back from his ugly ninth with a nice second in the Grade 3 Derby Trial Stakes behind Forty Tales April 27 at Churchill Downs but slipped back to earth with a seventh in the Grade 2 Woody Stephens at Belmont June 8. Last time out was his best career performance - a win in the Grade 1 King's Bishop at Saratoga August 24. He has three wins, a second and two thirds in nine career starts and starts from post 9 with Joel Rosario in the saddle at 8-1 odds.

Unbridled's Note - Steve Asmussen trained colt is coming off a good third in the Grade 3 Eddie D over the same course and distance September 27 as this weekend (a he won that race last year) after an ugly eighth in the Grade 2 Churchill Downs Stakes in May and a good second in the Grade 2 Potrero Grande Stakes here in April. He has placed in nine of his last 10 overall with two wins and is competitive virtually every time out. Unbridled's Note starts from the far outside post with Corey Nakatani in the saddle at 8-1 odds.

Havelock - Darrin Miller trained gelding has won two of three races this year in the US - the Grade 3 Woodford last time out at Keeneland October 5 and the Grade 3 Shakertown at Keeneland in April but headed overseas where he had a couple of disappointing eleventh place finishes. He is a multiple graded stakes winner - two this year and is 10-1 on the morning line. Jamie Graham will be aboard from post 10.

Jeranimo - Jeranimo returned to prominence last June with a win in the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile last year and then finished sixth in the Breeders' Cup Mile and fourth in the Grade 2 Citation Handicap at Hollywood Park November 23. In 2013 he had a win in the Grade 2 San Gabriele Stakes here January 13 and a win in the Grade 1 Eddie Read Stakes July 20 sprinkled in with some ugly performances. Last time out he continued to prove inconsistent - a ninth in the Grade 1 Awesome Again here after another ninth in the Grade 1 Pacific Classic at Del Mar August 25. Not sure of what to make of Jeranimo but he starts from the rail at 12-1 odds with Victor Espinoza guiding him.

Tightend Touchdown - Jason Servis pupil has placed in 10 straight races ahead of this weekend - five wins, four seconds - last time out in the Grade 3 Turf Monster and in the Grade 3 Parx Dash being his best ever results. Tightend Touchdown has nine wins, five seconds and a third place finish in 21 career starts and is in by far the best form of his career. He goes off at 12-1 odds from post 7 with Javier Castellano in the saddle.

Dimension - British bred gelding made his first graded stakes start and finished a very good second in the Grade 3 Bold Venture Stakes July 17 after shipping to North America in October. His first four races in North America were Allowance starts with a fourth at Keeneland in October being his best result. Last time out was a fifth in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile September 15 after an impressive win at 10-1 odds in the Grade 2 Play the King Stakes August 25. Dimension has placed in two of his last three graded stakes starts - all at Woodbine and is being sent off at 12-1 odds for the BC Turf Sprint. David Moran has the call from post 13.

Rock Me Baby - has 10 starts this year with four wins, four seconds and a third place finish - the lone off-the-board finish coming last time out in his graded stakes debut - the Grade 3 Eddie D on this track September 27.He finished second in the minor California Dreamin' Handicap in July - his best career performance but races in a deep and talented field this week. Rock Me Baby departs from post 2 with Joe Talamo in the saddle - at 30-1 odds.

Handsome Mike - has just three wins in 20 career starts - a Maiden Special Weight score at Santa Anita in October, out of nowhere in the Grade 2 Pennsylvania Derby last September and in April at the Grade 3 Commonwealth Stakes - the only time he's placed in eight starts this year. Last time out was an ugly tenth Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile October 5 after another tenth in the Grade 2 Pat O'Brien, an unflattering eighth in the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap and an OK fourth in the Grade 2 Churchill Downs Stakes May 4. Handsome Mike placed in just three of his last 15 starts but opened a few eyes four back with his win in the Commonwealth. He is 30-1 on the morning line and will have Mario Gutierrez guiding him from post 8.

Spring to the Sky - Bruce Brown trained colt is coming off his best performance in some time - a third in the Grade 3 Woodford Stakes at Keeneland October 5 after an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Saratoga in August, He has that win, a pair of seconds and a third place finish in five starts this year but will likely be in deep this weekend. He is the co-longest shot in the field at 30-1 odds and will line up in post 11 with John Velazquez in the reins
