Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf comes our way this Saturday, November 1 from a very busy Santa Anita in Arcadia, California. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will be featured as they go 1 1/4 miles on Santa Anita's turf track searching for the winner's share of the $2 million purse.
A field of 11 will take to the track in the BC Filly and Mare Turf - race 5 on Santa Anita's stacked Breeder's Cup Saturday card. Post time is 12:43 PM PDT. Here is a look into the past performances of all 11 entries for this Grade 1 stakes.
Dank 5-2 - British bred mare is the defending champion in this race but has just two starts since - a third in a Group 1 race at Meydan in March and a fifth last time out in a stakes at Ascot in June. She has 14 career starts with seven wins, two seconds and two third place finishes and hopes to return to her winning ways on a track that suits her very well. Ryan Moore rides the morning line favorite from post 3 Saturday.
Stephanie's Kitten 3-1 - had a very productive Juvenile campaign in which she won or placed in all five starts (three wins and two third place finishes) including the 2011 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and the 2011 Grade 1 Darley Alcibiades Stakes. She was a leading Juvenile filly on dirt and turf in 2011 and looked OK in 2012 as well. She had just three starts in 2013 - a great win in the Grade 2 Churchill Distaff Turf Mile, another impressive score in the 2013 Grade 1 Just a Game Stakes and a third in July in the 2013 Dania Beach Stakes. Stephanie's Kitten has five starts in 2014 and hadn't looked great before her last three starts - a very disappointing eighth in the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley Stakes at Keeneland in April was followed by a fifth in the Just a Game Stakes June 7 at Belmont Park, consecutive seconds -in the Grade 1 Beverley D Stakes August 16 and the Grade 1 Diana Stakes. Last time out was a terrific win in the Grade 1 Flower Bowl at Belmont Park September 27. She has two seconds and a win in her last three starts overall - trending upward ahead of this weekend and will have John Velazquez in the saddle from post 10.
Just The Judge 5-1 - Irish bred filly and Irish Classic winner had 11 starts at home with four wins, a second and three third place finishes before debuting with a third in the Grade 1 Beverly D Stakes at Arlington August 16 - one of those thirds being the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh June 29. Last time out she made a huge splash with a win in the lucrative Grade 1 EP Taylor Stakes at Woodbine October 19. Other notable results include a nice victory in the 2013 Group 1 Etihad Airways Irish One Thousand Guineas and a runner-up performance to Sky Lantern in a Group 1 race in England. Justin Spencer has the mount from gate 2 as Just the Judge continues her upward trend.
Secret Gesture 6-1 - British bred filly has 11 career starts with three wins, five seconds and two third place finishes and has placed in four straight races ahead of this weekend - a third in a Group 1 at Deauville last time out August 24 followed a second in a stakes at York in July, a stakes win in June and a second in a stakes in May. She has been in every race she's entered the last five months and is expected to be Saturday as well. Patrick Smullen gets the call from post 5.
Dayatthespa 8-1 - won five of her six starts in 2012, three of the graded stakes variety. Dayatthespa has four starts in 2014 - a win in the minor You Go West Girl Stakes by four lengths at Belmont Park May 5, a good second to Laughing after setting the pace in the Grade 3 Eatontown Handicap at Monmouth Park June 29, a win in the minor Yaddo Stakes at Saratoga August 16 and a good second by a head behind Better Lucky last time out in the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes at Keeneland October 5. That's two wins and two seconds this year but zero graded stakes scores. But Dayatthespa is used to being at or near the top and has eight wins and three seconds in 13 career starts. Javier Castellano will be in the reins from post 4.
Fiesolana 8-1 - Irish bred mare has a win, a second and a third place finish in six starts this year but is coming off a career-worst effort - a seventh in the Group 1 Qatar Prix de la Foret at Longchamp October 5 which followed a win in a stakes September 13 and an OK third in a Group 1 race at Deauville in August. She has 22 career starts with nine wins, three seconds and two third place finishes and has placed in three of her last five overall. William Lee will be in the irons from gate 6 Saturday.

Emollient 12-1 - defending fourth place finisher in this race Bill Mott trained Emollient has 17 career starts with six wins, three seconds and a third place finish. She had a terrific nine length win in the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland at 6-1 odds April 6, 2013, a win in the Grade 1 American Oaks July 13 and a win in the Grade 1 Juddmonte Spinster Stakes also at Keeneland October 6 of last year. But Emollient hadn't been good lately - consecutive ninth place finishes in the Grade 1 Beverly D Stakes at Arlington August 16 and the Grade 1 Diana Stakes July 19 were followed by a nice win last time out in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes on this track September 27. She did finish second to Miss Serendipity in May in the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes at Santa Anita May 26 and had a third in the Grade 3 Doubledogdare Stakes at Keeneland in April as well. Emollient hopes to build on a terrific effort last time out when she leaves from post 7 with Rosie Napravnik aboard.
Abaco 15-1 - consistent Shug McGaughey trained mare had a nice win in the Grade 3 Cardinal Handicap at Churchill Downs November 9 and has continued her solid form this year. She was fourth in the Grade 3 Marshua's River Stakes at Gulfstream January 4 but has since but has recently placed in five of six stakes tries - the last being a second in the Grade 1 Flower Bowl at Belmont Park September 27. It followed a nice win in the Grade 2 Ballston Spa, a second in the Grade 2 Sheepshead Bay Stakes in May and a pair of thirds in graded stakes action - in the Grade 3 Suwannee River Stakes February 8 and in the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley Stakes at Keeneland April 12. Abaco also had a nice four race win streak (no stakes) at the end of 2012 as well. She has been in every race the last year and is expected to be so again on Saturday. She lines up from the rail with Jose Ortiz in the saddle.
Irish Mission 20-1 - Canada's top 3-year-old filly in 2012 has come on of late - a win in the Grade 3 Glens Falls Stakes at Saratoga August 31 was followed by a good third in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive last time out on this track. Before those results were a second in the Grade 3 Matchmaker Stakes at Monmouth Park in July, a second in the minor Belmont Gold Cup and a respectable third in the Grade 2 Sheepshead Bay Stakes May 24. Irish Million has been trending upwards ahead of this weekend. She leaves from gate 8 with Joel Rosario guiding her.
Parranda 20-1 - won the Millions Filly and Mare Turf Preview Stakes at Gulfstream in November and the Florida Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf January 18 and went on to another win - in the Grade 3 Suwannee River Stakes in gate-to-wire fashion February 8 with a fourth in the Grade 3 My Charmer Handicap in December sandwiched in there. She enters off a pair of good seconds - the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes here September 27 and behind Miss Serendipity in the Grade 2 Yellow Ribbon Stakes September 1. This after an OK third in the competitive Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes August 2 and yet another win in the Grade 2 Royal Heroine Stakes June 28. Parranda has placed in eight of her last nine starts with four wins over that span and enters in very good form Elvis Trujillo rides from post 9.
Rusty Slipper 20-1 - H. Graham Motion trained filly mare made her 2014 debut June 24 and finished fourth in the Grade 3 Eatontown Stakes but bounced back with a nice win in the Grade 3 Violet Stakes at Monmouth Park August 23. Last time out was an OK third in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes on this track. Prior to a year away, she was seen winning the minor Little Silver Stakes last May after a DNF in the Grade 3 Appalachian Stakes at Keeneland in April. Rusty Slipper has two wins and a third place finish this year and could be a sneaky 30-1 this weekend. Aaron Gryder has the mount from the outside post.
