Royal Ascot 2026 Betting Preview - Day 2 (June 17)

Bet the Royal Ascot festival online with OffTrackBetting.com! (OTB) is excited to once again offer wagering on one the premiere race meets from across the pond - the 2026 Royal Ascot located at Ascot Racecourse, Ascot, Berkshire, England.

Day two of the Royal Meeting promises to be another thrilling day of action with the feature Group 1 Prince Of Wales's Stakes showcasing a mouthwatering clash between the reigning champion Ombudsman and last year's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Daryz.

Queen Mary Stakes

The action gets underway at 2.30pm with the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes for two-year-olds over five furlongs. Karl Burke has won two of the last four runnings and he is double-handed this year, with Wild Blossom arguably the more impressive of those on debut when winning by ten lengths at Carlisle.

True Love was the first winner of the race for Aidan O'Brien last year and Victorious is his sole representative in a bid to go back-to-back. Senorita Bonita was hugely impressive when overcoming trouble on her debut two weeks ago and is sure to know more today. American trainer Wesley Ward has won this race four times and he sends out Ruiva and Shining Moment, whilst More Champagne and Celtic Dispute have also made the trip across the Atlantic in search of glory.

Queen's Vase

The Group 2 Queen's Vase is next at 3.05pm, showcasing three-year-olds over a mile and six furlongs. As you would expect there is plenty of untapped potential in this field with Galiyan, Ravenspire and Point Of Law both having had just two racecourse starts - the latter races in the colours of Their Majesties The King and The Queen.

Limestone is already a winner at Listed level having done so at Navan last month where he beat Asakir into second place. Port Of Spain ran creditably in the always-competitive London Gold Cup at Newbury last time and could improve further for this step up in trip.

Duke Of Cambridge Stakes

We continue with the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes (3.40pm), a Group 2 event over a mile for fillies and mares four-years-old and upwards. John & Thady Gosden have won three of the last five runnings of the race and Group 1 winner Friendly Soul has every chance of adding to that tally if producing her best.

Blue Bolt brings a similarly classy level of form having finished second in the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket last October and she returned to action with a smooth success at Goodwood in May. There are a few in the field who have potentially yet to show their limit of their talents with Catalina Delcaprio, Kon Tiki and Falakeyah all relatively lightly raced for their age.

Prince of Wales's Stakes

Wednesday's feature at 4.20pm, the Prince of Wales's Stakes over ten furlongs, will see some of the best intermediate distance horses in training go head-to-head. Last year's winner Ombudsman produced a superb turn of foot to announce his arrival at the top level, with two more Group 1 successes since - he is yet to finish out of the first two in 11 starts. Daryz, meanwhile, has been equally impressive and progressive, victory in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe the first of three successive top-level wins, with last month's victory over nine furlongs proving he has speed as well as stamina.

Almaqam made his own Group 1 breakthrough in last month's Tattersalls Gold Cup where Minnie Hauk was slightly disappointing - but she was just a short head behind Daryz in the Arc last October after winning the Oaks, the Irish Oaks and the Yorkshire Oaks. See The Fire and Dancing Gemini are quality contenders in their own right but may just struggle to match up against the front quartet in the market.

Royal Hunt Cup

The 30-runner Royal Hunt Cup follows at 5.00pm, over the straight mile. As you would expect, this is a fiercely competitive contest. If Scoville can bounce back from a poor run at Thirsk having since had a wind operation, then he still has an exploitable mark, whilst Classic and Indalo finished first and second in a handicap in May at Newbury and could go forward from there.

Erzindjan and Fifth Column filled the same places at Newmarket at the start of last month and again might be suited to the hustle and bustle of this race. La Botte finished second in the Britannia Stakes, the three-year-old version of this race, last year and now races off an official rating three pounds higher.

Kensington Palace Stakes

The next big puzzle to solve is the Kensington Palace Stakes at 5.35pm, a fillies' handicap over a mile for four-year-olds and upwards. The starting point is Alobayyah who has had just four starts and is still open to plenty of improvement having caught the eye here last month.

Zgharta finished down the field in the same race but she showed potential at three including in last year's Sandringham Handicap at the Royal Meeting. Oolong Poobong placed in the same race and made a solid return after 11 months off so is entitled to come on for the run.**** At a likely bigger price, Perfect Part has been running consistently of late and could again be involved at the finish.

Windsor Castle Stakes

It doesn't get any easier in the final race, the Windsor Castle Stakes at 6.10pm, which will be run over six furlongs for the first time and has attracted 25 runners. Controlla made her debut in a Group 3 at Naas in May, finishing second to Victorious who runs in the Queen Mary Stakes, so that will be a good pointer to her own chances.

Sergei Diaghilev and Ruler's Control both won on debut - the latter has since changed hands and is now trained by Joseph O'Brien who also sends out One Number, beaten on his first start by the reopposing Celeron. All of the prior-named hail from Ireland and the best of the British contingent on previous form could be Sale Shark who made an impressive debut at Hamilton three weeks ago.

Day 2 Royal Ascot 2026 - Racing Recap

Prince Of Wales's Stakes showdown - Ombudsman dazzles

Ombudsman (11/10F) became only the fourth horse to win back-to-back editions of the G1 Prince Of Wales's Stakes after producing a stunning display in the 10-furlong showpiece, the feature race on Wednesday at Royal Ascot.

Held up off the gallop set by tearaway leaders Mississippi River and Devil's Advocate, William Buick waited until the home straight before pulling Ombudsman out towards the middle of the track.

Minnie Hauk and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe hero Daryz were bang there as well two furlongs out, but they had no answer to Ombudsman's finishing surge. The winning distance was four lengths to Minnie Hauk (15/2), with Daryz (2/1) a length and three-quarters further back in third.

Ombudsman's co-trainer John Gosden also saddled Muhtarram to successive Prince Of Wales's Stakes victories in 1994 and 1995. The other dual winners are Connaught (1969 & 1970) and Mtoto (1987 & 1988).

Gosden said: "Aidan [O'Brien] had a pacemaker and we thought we'd have ours doing what we wanted to do as well. They wound up meeting coming into the bend and off the bend, so they obviously agreed on the pace.

"The filly ran great, the Arc winner ran great, and probably the horse who won in Ireland [Almaqam] might not have run his race today because he'd usually be in the shake-up. But overall, I thought it was one of the great performances of Ombudsman's career."

Buick said: "We thought Ombudsman came here in good shape. He was faultless going into Dubai in the spring and had a good prep in the Brigadier Gerard at Sandown, which was a stepping stone to coming here. Every step of the way he was perfect, so there was a great deal of expectation, of course. Conditions were here to suit him, but I don't think you can ever expect a performance quite like that. Today, he pleasantly surprised me a little with how well he did it and the feel he gave me. He was exceptional - it's very rare for a horse to do what he did."

Victorious scorches to Queen Mary Stakes glory

Victorious (10/3F) might only have sight in one eye but that did not stop the daughter of Wootton Bassett as she displayed great acceleration to win the G2 Queen Mary Stakes.

Settled in rear of the smaller group that raced towards the far side, Ryan Moore allowed the action to unfold in front of him, just as he had done yesterday over the same five-furlong distance on Mission Central.

Moore switched his mount left entering the final two furlongs, after which Victorious unleashed a sustained run to wear down Senorita Bonita (8/1) and win going away by two lengths. US raider Ruiva (11/1) fared best of those on the stands' side, a nose further back.

O'Brien said: "Victorious is very classy. She only has sight in one eye, so we were a little worried about where she was drawn [5] over there, but Ryan was brilliant on her. He reassured her and let her find her way through. He got a little group to follow and then took her to the outside.

"She came from Coolmore and I think she lost her sight through a cataract or something when she was a foal or a yearling. She has a lot of quality and it's very hard to beat quality."

Limestone pips Del Maro in Queen's Vase

Progressive stayer Limestone (10/3) continued a strong spell for trainer Joseph O'Brien as he scored by the narrowest of margins in the G2 Queen's Vase.

Limestone was pushed along early in the straight by Dylan Browne McMonagle, but his stamina kicked in and he finished strongly to deny the closing Del Maro (12/1) by a nose. Front-runner Ranga Tang (40/1) was a length further back in third.

O'Brien said: "The horse is very tough and tenacious. It was a close finish, but I am delighted to come out on top. I thought we were beaten to be honest. Dylan gave him a fantastic ride. He got a great spot and control of the race, which is what we intended to do because we felt our best attribute was a little bit of speed.

"I think the sky is the limit for him in terms of a middle-distance or staying horse. He has got better with every race and has an outstanding pedigree. He is a son of New Bay who has improved with every start, so all we can do is see how far he can climb."

Blue Bolt shows quality in Duke Of Cambridge Stakes

Andrew Balding is eyeing G1 targets for Blue Bolt (5/2F) after the Juddmonte filly put away a competitive field in the G2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes.

Colin Keane was able to secure a midfield position from a wide draw, which meant the daughter of Blue Point was ideally placed as the 15 runners turned into the home straight.

Blue Bolt challenged approaching the final furlong and never looked in any danger as she went away to win by almost two lengths. Irish raider Jancis (16/1) was second, with Friendly Soul (7/2) staying on strongly for third after being hampered.

Balding said: "She is a star. She is relaxing better this year, which is helpful. Colin Keane gave her a brilliant ride - it's not an easy draw, but he was decisive and got her into position. We know she gets a mile, so she'll likely stick at that distance for the time being."

Keane said: "Blue Bolt is very uncomplicated. I think she's heading in a Group One direction. She has improved with age and experience, and I hope she can continue progressing that way. I am very lucky to be riding in these colours and even luckier to be riding winners in them here."

Alobayyah leads home first, third and fourth for Haggas in Kensington Palace Stakes

Alobayyah justified 11/4 favouritism in a Kensington Palace Stakes dominated by trainer William Haggas, who also saddled the third Seren Star (40/1) and fourth Rhapsody (12/1).

Lining up against 23 opponents, the Ghaiyyath filly finished powerfully for Tom Marquand towards the stands' side and overhauled the James Fanshawe-trained Miss Nightfall (12/1) in the closing strides.

Haggas said: "We trained Alobayyah for a Classic because we thought she was pretty good. That was the wrong thing to do because she wasn't ready. It set her back three months and we never really recovered, plus we had lots of other issues. Lucky to have some patient owners. It is very easy for a trainer to be patient, but you need the owners to row in. It is their first Royal Ascot winner and I am absolutely thrilled for them."

Marquand said: "Winners like this, with fillies like this, matter. A lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes and a lot of time, so it's wonderful. We're a big team and everybody is so invested in driving the ship in the same direction. It is easy steering these ones towards the finish line, but it's a big privilege to be aboard these horses for the team."

King Of Cloughan storms home late to win Windsor Castle Stakes

Joseph O'Brien drew level with father Aidan on three wins at Royal Ascot 2026 at the end of day two, after King Of Cloughan (33/1) was a surprise winner of the Windsor Castle Stakes.

Run over six furlongs for the first time, Billy Loughnane had to be patient aboard the eventual winner but once he found daylight, the reaction was immediate and he stormed home to collar Moonrise close to the line.

Loughnane said: "He relaxed and found a beautiful rhythm. I had a dream passage through and he made my job easy. Joseph O'Brien is a genius."
