Royal Ascot 2026 Betting Preview - Day 4 (June 19)

Bet the Royal Ascot festival online with OffTrackBetting.com! (OTB) is excited to once again offer wagering on one the premiere race meets from across the pond - the 2026 Royal Ascot located at Ascot Racecourse, Ascot, Berkshire, England.

Day four of Royal Ascot sees three-year-old talent come to the fore with the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup showcasing the best sprinters around before the Group 1 Coronation Stakes shines the spotlight on the fillies over a mile.

Albany Stakes

As with every day at the Royal Meeting, this two-year-olds get things underway at 2.30pm - today it's the six furlong fillies in the Albany Stakes. Aidan O'Brien has won two of the last four runnings of the race and he has a strong favorite today in Sun Goddess who confirmed her debut promise when bolting up at the Curragh on her second start.

She's far from the only improver in the field though, with the likes of Silent Beauty, Light Of Dawn and Libertango all looking promising when winning on debut. Their Majesties The King and The Queen have an interesting runner in King's Prize, successful at Nottingham and now moving into this higher grade.

Commonwealth Cup

The Commonwealth Cup (3.05pm) is open to three-year-old colts and fillies, over six furlongs. Venetian Sun will be a warm order after her hugely impressive victory in the Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock - she also won last year's Albany Stakes so she will definitely handle the track.

Aidan O'Brien is triple-handed in the race including last year's Norfolk Stakes winner Charles Darwin and the well-touted Albert Einstein, whilst Division and Wise Approach have both shown a good level of form to challenge in this company. The latter was second in the Norfolk last year whilst the former was third in the Commonwealth Cup Trial Stakes here in May, behind the re-opposing Coppull and Midnight Tango.

Edinburgh Stakes

Last year, the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes (3.40pm) over a mile and a half unleashed subsequent Breeders' Cup winner Ethical Diamond. Whilst it's unlikely that another top-level performer will emerge from this race, there are plenty on an upward curve.

Warrant Holder, for Their Majesties The King and The Queen, improved to win on his first start of the year and he could easily build on that, with Opportunity and Serengeti two others coming here off the back of a victory.

Hopewell Rock might not have won since his two-year-old season but he's still on a workable mark, as is French Duke who went off second favorite for this last year and won in Meydan in January.

Coronation Stakes

Today's feature is the Coronation Stakes at 4.20pm. Aidan O'Brien hasn't won this race since 2017 with Winter but he certainly corners the market today. True Love, who won the Queen Mary Stakes at the Royal Meeting last year, won the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket before finishing second behind stablemate Precise in the Irish equivalent at the Curragh.

On both occasions, Ryan Moore chose the wrong filly to ride - he will hope to be third time lucky today having chosen Precise today. It's not a two-horse race, though - Touleen was sixth in the 1,000 Guineas showing promise whilst Balantina was third in the Albany Stakes last year before winning a Grade 1 at the Breeders' Cup - she could make her presence felt if improving again on her seasonal debut.

Sandringham Stakes

Next is the Sandringham Stakes (5.00pm), a mile handicap for three-year-old fillies. There are plenty in here with just the three requisite starts - for example, Seet and Glyfada have both won their last two, and must make the shortlist.

Darn Hot Gallop came up short in the 1,000 Guineas but may still improve back in handicap company whilst Symbol Of Majesty and Bintaziza both lost their unbeaten records in handicaps last time out but remain with potential. This is a hugely competitive event, and it would be no surprise to see a shock result, with the last two winners returning at 22/1 and 14/1.

King Edward VII Stakes

The King Edward VII Stakes (5.35pm), for three-year-old males over a mile and a half, has launched the careers of King Of Steel and Calandagan in recent years - there are two standout candidates in today's field. Water To Wine has looked hugely impressive in winning two races by a total of 15 lengths and is being slowly brought along, with this Group 2 looking well within his grasp.

Causeway, meanwhile, already has the experience of Pattern company with Listed and Group 3 successes last month - this looks the natural next target. Ancient Egypt and Golden Story are both Listed winners and could also take another step in this race.

Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes

We close with the Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes (6.10pm), a handicap for three-year-old speedsters over the minimum five furlongs. The late Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum's colors are doubly represented here with the unbeaten Westport and the progressive Dickensian, who will carry top-weight having won a Listed race in May.

There are two American runners in the field - Sandal's Song was third in the Norfolk Stakes last year and ran well behind Outfielder in the USA last time whilst Bacio showed a good level of form in winning on seasonal debut at Churchill Downs in April.Jazl couldn't have been more impressive when running away with a Leicester handicap in May and can't be ruled out despite the hike in the weights.

Day 4 Royal Ascot 2026 - Racing Recap

Precise Captures Coronation Stakes

Irish 2,000 Guineas heroine Precise added a fourth G1 prize to her burgeoning CV with a no-nonsense display in the G1 Coronation Stakes for Aidan O'Brien.

Kept on the outside of the nine runners by Ryan Moore, the 8/13 favourite was sent to the front entering the final two furlongs and saw it out strongly to make it six wins from eight career starts.

Touleen (12/1) was the hard-luck story of the race after encountering interference as Precise made her move, with Owen Burrows' contender rallying well to go down by a length and a half in second. 1000 Guineas scorer True Love (5/2), stablemate of the winner, was a neck further back in third.

Now a dual G1 winner this season, Precise was Europe's joint highest-rated juvenile filly last season thanks to additional top-level victories in the Moyglare Stud Stakes and Fillies' Mile.

O'Brien said: "It will be interesting to hear what Ryan said. She was a little bit slow away, but I thought he did great on her and kept her out of trouble. I am delighted with her. When she gets there, she just looks a little bit lazy.

"Precise can do a lot of things. She can stay at a mile or she can step up in trip. I am grateful and thankful to everybody for getting her here. She gets a little bit lazy, but when you do ask her, she really opens up - that is just her.

"True Love ran a storming race and got trapped wide, which probably did not help her, but she ran a great race."

Moore said: "Precise began a bit awkwardly. I was a bit further back than I wanted to be, but I rode her to get there in front. She got into a beautiful rhythm. I was not really concerned about what position I was in, just keeping her going forward. She covered ground on the turn, but I knew she was going to stay well. She is the best filly, there was no need to complicate it, and she has done what she had to do.

"I would say 10 furlongs is within her compass, but she is good at a mile. There are plenty of good fillies in the yard, so I suppose we will get home, see what the others are doing and make a plan. It was not her fault she got beat first time up. She is a very good filly and beautifully trained."

Venetian Sun shines brightest in Commonwealth Cup

Venetian Sun confirmed herself as the best three-year-old sprinter in Europe as she justified 11/8 favouritism in the G1 Commonwealth Cup, 10 years on from trainer Karl Burke's first win in the race with Quiet Reflection.

Down the field when tackling a mile in the 1000 Guineas on her comeback, last season's G1 Prix Morny heroine lined up on the back of an impressive bounce-back win in the G2 Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock Park.

Ridden handily by Clifford Lee, Venetian Sun made headway to lead a furlong out and found plenty for pressure to repel the challenge of Spicy Marg (50/1) by a head. Division closed well from the rear to take third, a further half-length behind.

Owned by Brighton Football Club owner Tony Bloom and Ian McAleavy, Venetian Sun is unbeaten in six starts over five and six furlongs.

Burke said: "That is more relief than enjoyment. She is what she is - she is such a laid-back filly - and it was probably unusual the way she did it at Haydock last time. Everybody was talking about how good it was visually, which it was, but I think the ground had a lot to do with that.

"I have said it before a few times, but when Clifford rode her last year, even when he was winning Group races on her, he kept saying, 'she is feeling the ground'. Haydock was probably the first time she actually raced on soft ground. I think that is probably the reason why she has not been as visually impressive, but she is still a Group One winner."

Libertango takes down Sun Goddess in Albany Stakes

Libertango (6/1) came to the rescue of Royal Ascot bookmakers as she flew past 10/11 favourite Sun Goddess to post a dominant success in the G3 Albany Stakes.

Held up from her low draw in stall three, Libertango met with a few traffic problems in the six-furlong contest before finding a telling change of gear to run down Sun Goddess and score by a length. Light Of Dawn (11/1) was the same distance further back in third.

Boughey said: "Libertango has been very good from the outset. She was prepared by Brendan Holland, who was very sweet on her before the sale. We actually wanted her as a yearling but did not manage to buy her, so it was nice to see her back in the breeze-up sale.

"She has just got the most amazing brain. Trying to buy Royal Ascot two-year-olds, No Nay Never is the stallion who is hitting it out of the park, so to be able to get her was brilliant. He was pretty bold, Mr Araci - he wanted to get the horse and he had to pay for it. Her work has been better than any two-year-old we have sent to Ascot. We have been second and third in the race the last couple of years, so we are delighted to get it done."

Loughnane said: "This is no surprise. I loved Libertango before her first run. Her work had been very good and she did everything right that day at Leicester, especially in very hot conditions. She did a monster piece of work six days ago, so I was confident of a very big run."

Another Opportunity knocks for McDonald in Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes

James McDonald guided another supposed Wathnan Racing second string to victory as he teamed up with the William Haggas-trained Opportunity in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes.

Giving a daring ride from stall one, Opportunity tracked Warrant Holder (16/5) turning for home before switching towards the rail to challenge the Royal runner. The duo pulled clear on the run to the line, with Opportunity scoring by almost two lengths. Regal Ulixes (22/1) was three lengths further back in third.

It was a second winner of the week for McDonald, who rode Map Of Stars to victory in the Listed Wolferton Stakes on Tuesday.

Richard Brown of Wathnan Racing said: "I wish something else was second! But we are obviously all sportsmen. That was a very thrilling race to watch. We were very worried about the draw - it is difficult from 1. James had to be patient there. A gap opened, it stayed open up the inside, we were lucky about that, and Opportunity finished very strongly."

McDonald said: "I didn't know about the negatives of stall one - it's a great barrier for us in Australia and anywhere around the world, really. They said it's a bit of a coffin barrier, but it worked out really well for us. Not having as much of an idea as the other boys probably worked in my favour.

"The King and Queen will have plenty of chances, probably more chances than myself. I did see the Royal colours and I have deep respect and admiration for them. I was just glad to get a winner at Royal Ascot. That is the main thing and I am enjoying every minute of it."

Green Carrera continues Joseph O'Brien's hot streak in Sandringham Stakes

Green Carrera utilised the stands' rail to great effect as she landed the Sandringham Stakes in taking fashion, providing trainer Joseph O'Brien with a fifth winner of the meeting.

Having raced in two groups, the 30 runners converged approaching the final two furlongs and it was Mickael Barzlona's decision to switch left towards the rail that paid dividends, with Green Carrera (8/1) powering home alone for a two-length success.

O'Brien said: "Green Carrera has a big kick, which she used at the Curragh on her last two runs. Today we were keen that she relaxed. Mickael and her had a great set-up. She got a dream run up the rail and a great ride from Mickael with a light weight on her back. She was catching the eye from halfway, I thought.

"I am delighted for the owners. They have only recently bought her from Simon [Munir] and Isaac [Souede], who will be delighted. Whether we go for another handicap or a Stakes race, you would like to think that on the back of today she could hold her own in Stakes company."

Causeway completes five-timer in King Edward VII Stakes

Causeway extended his winning streak to five after getting the better of Ancient Egypt (10/1) in a protracted battle for the King Edward VII Stakes.

Always well placed under Ryan Moore, the even-money favourite dug deep in the 12-furlong contest to overhaul the brave runner-up, with just a neck separating them at the line. They pulled 10 lengths clear of Water To Wine (13/8) in third.

Trained by Aidan O'Brien, Causeway had won a maiden, handicap, Listed race, and G3 before today.

O'Brien said: "We stepped Causeway up from a mile to a mile and a quarter, and now to a mile and a half. He is very lazy, so it is hard to know what is in there. Ryan said that he was toying with him and that, when he gets there, he is lazy.

"Ryan is an incredible rider. What can I say? He is so professional, so talented, so brilliant and so consistent, and he does not take anything for granted. He is always wanting to learn, he wants to make himself better, he is never complacent in any way and he gets us. He is an unbelievable man. We are so delighted and grateful that he is there for us when we want him."

Moore said: "Causeway was just doing what he hard to do. I was just keeping him going to keep him interested. I didn't really want to be where I was. Every time I asked him, he just kept finding, when I asked for a little more, he gave me a little bit more; he's just done enough. There is more in the tank I hope."

Bacio survives stewards' scare to win Palace Of Holyroodhouse Stakes

The well-backed Bacio (3/1F) led from start to finish and put nearly four lengths between himself and fellow American traveller Sandal's Song at the line - but supporters had a scare when jockey Juan Hernandez weighed in light.

The Mexican has ridden over 3,000 winners and this was his first at the Royal Meeting, though when he went to weigh in he was found to be carrying 1lb light.

The stewards established that his overgirth had accidentally been left in the winners' enclosure when Hernandez went to weigh in - once found, the jockey weighed in at the correct weight and the result was allowed to stand.
