The Forego Handicap is an American Thoroughbred horse race held annually at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York. Open to horses three years old and up, it is run at a distance of seven furlongs on the dirt. A Grade I event, the race is one of the first prep races for the Breeders' Cup Sprint and currently carries a purse of $250,000 and is a Grade I event.
Inaugurated in 1980 at the Belmont Park racetrack in Elmont, New York where it remained through 1983, the Forego Handicap was initially run a distance of eight furlongs (one mile). From 1982 to 1999 it was raced at seven furlongs then for 2000 through 2002 at six and a half furlongs before reverting to the seven furlong distance in 2003. This race is named for the great Forego, the American Horse of the Year for three straight years straight between1974 and 1976.
