The 71st running of the Grade 1 New York Turf Writers Cup goes down this Thursday, August 23 from Saratoga Raceway in upstate New York. Steeplechasers four years old and upwards will go two and three eighths miles on Saratoga's turf course in search of their share of the $150,000 purse.
With yet another week of racing in the books it is time to take a look back at all the happenings at all the biggest tracks in North America. As per usual there were some terrific races, some anti-climactic results and some performances definitely worthy of mention. The 29th running of the Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes is on tap for this Sunday, August 19 and it comes our way from Saratoga Race Track in upstate New York. Three year old fillies will be on display as they go one and one eighth miles on Saratoga's turf track for their share of the $200,000 purse.
The 77th running of Northwest's richest race - the Longacres Mile - comes our way this Sunday, August 19 from Emerald Downs. Horses three years old and upward will be after the winner's portion of the $200,000 purse when they go one mile on Emerald Downs's main dirt track.
The Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks is on tap for this Saturday, August 18 from, where else, Del Mar Raceway in beautiful Southern California. Three year old fillies will race one and one eighth miles on Del Mar's turf track in search of their share of the $300,000 purse.
Monmouth Park on the Jersey Shore will be the scene of the Grade 3 Philip H. Iselin Stakes this Saturday, August 18. Horses three years old and upward will go one and one eighth miles on Monmouth's main dirt track as they chase their portion of the $150,000 purse.
Saratoga Raceway will be the scene of two lucrative Grade 1 races on Saturday, August 18 - one of those being the Sword Dancer Invitational Stakes. Featuring horses three years old and up willing to go one and a half miles on Saratoga's turf track, $600,000 will be on the line for this important Grade 1 event.
The Grade 1 Alabama Stakes goes down this Saturday, August 18 from Saratoga Raceway in New York. Three year old fillies will be featured as they go one and one quarter mile on Saratoga's dirt track for an impressive purse of $600,000. The Alabama is a defining race in the three year old division.
